Things to Consider Before Hiring a Gas Fire Engineer

Gas fireplaces can be effective in heating up your home. However they require regular maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure that they function properly. You can get help from a professional plumber or fireplace technician if you have gas fire problems. They can also repair damaged valves. Be aware of these points before hiring a professional:

Robert Hall, a pipeline safety advocate, said the fire had consumed miles of pipe, and it could take hours to get the fire to the valve.

Installation

Gas Safe registered professionals should be contacted if you are looking to replace your gas stove or install an entirely new fireplace. It's a complicated process that requires a careful reconnecting to your existing gas system and a thorough examination of your new fireplace to ensure that it is in compliance with Building Regulations.

The heating engineer will first determine the size of your space. The size of your room will determine whether you are able to safely set up a gas fireplace. It will also affect the location, type, and how many vents you should install.

After you have completed your measurements, the heating engineer will install the new fire. The appliance will be erected on a wall that has an exhaust gas outlet and a solid base. They'll then connect it to the main gas line, test its operation. They'll complete the installation by assembling the hearth and surround you've chosen. Depending on the type of fire, you might need to install a chimney or flue liner, too.

Troubleshooting

If your gas fire will not turn on it could be due to a problem with either the spark-ignition system or the pilot system. These systems can be reset using reference to the manual, but should only be attempted by people who are who are familiar with and comfortable with a potentially heavy gas smell. In certain cases, unusual sounds such as cracking or ticking can be normal as the iron in the burner tray expands and shrinks. If domestic gas engineer notice any of these sounds you should contact an Gas Safe engineer for help. Incorrectly or unsafely installed fireplaces could cause gas leaks, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning. A trained engineer can quickly and safely solve these issues.

Repair

If your fireplace is making strange noises, switching on and off at random or emitting a stench of gas, you'll need a professional to inspect and repair the problem. A rheostat, snap disc, or high limit over-temp switch may need to be replaced. These devices guard your fireplace from overheating by cutting the gas supply if the fire becomes too hot. Repair costs are determined by the complexity of repairs as well as where you live.
