Bedside Cot Crib

Bedside cot cribs allow you to sleep in a safe environment with your baby without the risk of overheating or suffocation. Designed to attach to the sides of your bed, they're especially helpful for c-section mums who are finding getting out of bed difficult.

Emily, a MFM home test participant, found the bedside crib easy to put together and loved the mesh windows that allow airflow and a clear view of the baby. It folds flat and slots into bags for travel.

Safety

A bedside crib crib is a unique crib that connects seamlessly with the parents' beds to give an easy way to take care of their baby at night. This crib lets them access their child easily so that they can feed or soothe them without having to leave the bed. This is helpful for new parents suffering from sleep deprivation during those early years. It promotes healthy growth in the infant by providing an environment that is safe and secure.

A good quality bedside crib will have a solid connections and an anti-slip design for the bed's foot, which helps to reduce the risk of accidents that could cause injury to your baby. They will also conform to safety standards, such as BS EN 1130:2019, which will ensure your baby is secure and safe when they sleep. You should also ensure the mattress that comes with your crib is firm instead of soft, and also look for any gaps that could increase your child's risk of suffocation or entrapment.

You should also avoid using pillows, duvets, or baby bumpers in your child's crib unless they're made specifically to be used in conjunction with a cot or a crib as they could pose a serious hazard and may not meet safety standards. Also, make sure that any toy your baby uses in the crib is securely secured and does not extend out too far.

If you're uncertain about a particular piece of equipment, ask other parents in a NCT group or at a baby cafe for suggestions, and make sure you choose a crib that is brand new and complies with current safety standards, instead of second-hand or hand-me-downs. If you're going to buy an older crib, make sure you examine it thoroughly for any damage and ensure all the components are present before purchasing it.

Another alternative is to purchase the bassinet, which is similar to a cot, but usually is attached to your bed and doesn't have legs. These are ideal for newborns and are particularly beneficial if you're recovering from a C-section as they're a perfect method to keep your baby close close to you at all times.

Size

Keep baby right next to you in the evening with the Sweet2Sleep bedside crib. Perfect for midnight feeds, heartfelt cuddles and check-ups on your comfort while you're cozy in your bed, this clever crib is loaded with features to help you bond with and soothe your baby. You can easily raise or lower the side rail of the crib using only one hand, to calm and comfort your child to monitor your child's sleep. It also features a soft rocking mode and incline function to alleviate symptoms of reflux, including indigestion or tummy pain.

It has a huge storage space beneath the crib that's perfect for nappies or blankets. Info 's designed to fit divan beds so you don't have to worry about the frame. Gulhan Arapoglu stated that it was an ideal size, strong, and easy to move from room to room. She also says that it's a little heavier than other cribs for beds however this is due to the additional features like the ability to rock or a reflux incline.

One of the most important things to look for in a crib is a mattress that is firm. Soft mattresses can increase the chance of SIDS, which is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. A mattress that is firm is an ideal choice for your child as it is more comfortable and helps support healthy spinal growth.

You can buy a crib mattress separately, but we recommend buying a high-end model to ensure that your little one gets the best rest possible. Make sure the mattress is in compliance with British safety standards and that it's an appropriate size for your baby.

If you're thinking of buying a bedside crib it's worth doing some careful shopping around to make sure you're getting the best deal. Black Friday is a great occasion to buy these cribs at a discount. Remember that you should always buy cribs directly from the manufacturer to ensure they are safe and meet the necessary safety standards.

Style

A bedside crib is an attached bassinet to your bed. These cribs are ideal to keep your baby close so that you can reach them easily for meals at night and also to soothe them back to sleep during nap time. They're also a blessing for mums recovering from c-section births, who can struggle to get out of bed to take care of their child in the middle of the night.

There's a variety of styles to pick from, but some characteristics that you might like to look out for include:

Can it be cleaned by machine or do you need an unwashable mattress cover? What size is the bed and can you adjust it to accommodate? It is easy to move and how heavy is it?

Mum test-taker Jasmine particularly liked the fact that this crib is able to swivel, making it easier to reach in and out of to take her newborn. She also appreciated the size of it, saying it's not as large as a standard crib, but is bigger than the standard Moses baskets and is comfortable for baby. It's also simple to put together and it folds flat, making it easy to move. Some mothers found it to be somewhat heavy, but this may be an issue for those with mobility issues.

The Maxi-Cosi Lora is another option to think about. It won Gold in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for the Best Cot or Crib. This crib is distinct from other cribs for beds in that it doesn't come with drop-down panels, but instead an adjustable side that can be lowered to reach baby. It's not quite as compact as other cribs when dismantled, but it's still transportable and comes with an included travel bag.

Some cribs can convert into a toddler bed or cot with an expansion kit. This can be beneficial for families looking to extend their baby's sleep space beyond the infant stage. However, it's not always necessary.

Budget

The best cribs for bedside use are those that sit close to your bed so that you can look after your baby, change nappys at night and feed your baby without getting up from your bed. They'll usually have sides that fold or zip down easily to allow you to reach over in the dark to scoop them up and they'll be breathable to ensure comfort. The majority will have a bed, which is ideal as you do not want it to be too hard or clumpy.

The cost of the more complex models will likely be more expensive. Consider whether the crib was designed to be a perfect fit for your bed or not. Some cribs may only work with a specific type of divan base, and this could be a problem if you have a unique bed frame.

The popular Next2me Magic crib is a good option for those who have divan beds. It was shortlisted for the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards as the best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. Our mums who have tested it have given it the thumbs up, saying it's made with mesh sides that you can see the baby's face through. It has a shelf that can be used for nappies or blankets, and is lightweight at only 10kg.

Another good option is the SnuzPod4, which comes in a variety of colors and our mothers have been extremely pleased with it too. They love the design, which is slim and elegant, yet still offers plenty of space for baby to sleep comfortably, and they appreciate the additional features, like incline options to help with reflux and the soothing rocking mechanism.

Both cribs can be bought at PS99 or under, making them a more affordable option than a Moses Basket if you are looking to save on the initial cost. Always remember to follow safe sleep guidance though, and check whether the crib you purchase conforms to the Lullaby Trust code for safety.
