The brand was launched in the US in 2003, Big Chill was founded by uncle-and-nephew team Thom Vernon and Orion Creamer who wanted to create a statement fridge that didn't conceal itself behind cabinetry. The company was initially was primarily focused on the production of ceramics, bathroom and kitchen furniture however, by the 1970s, it had expanded to produce appliances such as ovens, washing machines, and refrigerators. The product range also includes telecommunication equipment and television sets.

The FAB50 is by far the largest retro fridge freezer ever created by Gorenje. It stands at six feet tall and has 19.3 cubic feet of space in both the refrigerator and freezer.
