Window Treatments

Consider light control, privacy and aesthetics when selecting window treatments for sliding doors. Do you want to block natural light from shining on your furniture or artwork? Or do you prefer that the sunlight only shines through when the sun is at a low level in the sky.

The type of window treatment you choose can also create a more custom look. For instance, if the sliding patio door is a single pane of glass, you could add mullions to divide it into several smaller panes of glass for an elegant appearance. Window treatments are available in soft or hard materials. They can vary from shades that are cellular, roller shade and woven wood shades and drapes to curtains drapes and valances. They can be used on their own or in combination with other window treatments, such as a swag.

One of the most well-known types of window treatments that are suitable for patio doors is vertical blinds, that feature large fabric panels called vanes that can be opened and closed by tilting which allows you to control the amount of light that enters your home. They can be operated with the use of a wand, or a chain and cord.

Another alternative for sliding patio doors is a window film that offers the ability to control glare and energy consumption. These can be incorporated into your sliding door as an alternative to window treatments, for example an cellular shade.

For a more traditional appearance you may want to consider the look of a swag or valance on your sliding door. They are available in a variety of materials and colors, and in classic tabs, pinch pleats and grommet designs. You can also get them with a blackout lining for more privacy and light control.

Keep in mind that patio doors must be able to open and close. It is best to hang window treatments at a height to allow them to perform this purpose. This will make them safe for pets and children.

If your window treatments don't have a rod pocket or are made of a valance, you can use the traverse rod to allow them to move horizontally across your sliding doors. Just be sure to hang them a quarter of an inch above the top of your patio doors to prevent them from brushing heads passing through.

Rollers

If your patio door starts to sound squeaky, it's typically due to worn rollers. These rollers, which are located at the bottom of the door to allow it to slide down tracks, could become stuck or rust over time. This can make it difficult to open and shut the doors and cause loud noises while in motion. There are a variety of ways to repair your sliding door so that it will slide and then close.

The first thing you should try is to lubricate the tracks. This will allow the door to move more easily and should be done twice every year. You can purchase a high-quality oil at your local hardware store. Make use of a silicone spray if you have tracks made of vinyl or a wax-based oil if you have wooden ones. If the lubricant isn't working, you may need to replace your rollers.

You could also try to adjust the rollers. This is a task that requires two people because you'll have to lift the doors and locate the screws in plastic on the bottom of the track. The screws have a tiny plug which needs to be removed using the screwdriver. Then, you can turn the screws to raise or lower the rollers and allow the door to come in contact with a lesser amount of the track.

Another possibility is that the doors are not aligned properly in the track. This can cause a space between the frame and the door. This can allow cold air to get in on a cold morning or hot air to escape on a warm day. If repair patio door lock is the case, you should take down the door and then lift it to look into the reason for the gap.

If the gap is caused by the track, you can repair this by removing the top portion of the track, and then screwing it back in place. The gap can also be closed by installing the track in a new way, which will then give the door something to rest against when it is used.

Tracks

It could be time to grease your tracks if your doors aren't closing and opening smoothly. This is a simple task that will go a long way toward improving the ease of operation of your patio door.

Remove the door and place it on a flat surface out of the way as you work. If the door is heavy, it may be necessary to have someone else help you lift and hold it while you work. Make use of a brush and hot soapy water to thoroughly vacuum the track of your sliding door. Vacuum the blinds that are between the glass of your sliding doors.

Dust and dirt can accumulate close to the tilt and lower/raise operators of the Next Dimension vinyl patio door, affecting their operation. If your door has these, ensure that you regularly clean the surfaces using water and vinegar or a regular window cleaner.

Signature and Pro patio doors have an anti-lift feature that is located inside the head pocket, so they require a 3- 6" opening to remove this feature and allow the sill track to slide down. Slide the sash/panel to the open position and lift up on it, allowing it to tilt it backwards, clearing the sill pocket and allow the track to slide down from the head jamb. Repeat the process for both sides of the sash/panel.

Glass

It could be a concern if your patio door glass cracks. It can block sunlight from entering your home, making the space unusable. It is risky to have glass that is cracked as it can break and cause serious injuries if someone gets hit on the head with shattering pieces.

It's fairly simple to repair damaged doors and frames. The first step is to clean the glass to get rid of any dust and dirt that has accumulated over time. After cleaning the glass you can apply a clear coating to protect it from the elements. You can also apply decorative films to the doors to increase their privacy and style.

A roller that is not aligned could be the reason for your sliding glass door not rolling smoothly. The adjustment screws are located on the bottom of your door. They might be covered by trim caps. If you are unable to locate the screws, try lifting or lowering the door until it looks identical to the track.

Before you attempt to repair the sliding glass door ensure you have the tools needed. You'll require a screwdriver, an abrasive and some plastic putty or caulk. You'll need to move all furniture away from the front door so that you can work with ease. You can also put blankets or foam sheets underneath the door in order to shield it from scratches when you remove it and replace it.

Our engineers will determine the name of the manufacturer as soon as they arrive at the site of work. This is often done by removing the cover on the actual rollers (bogies) that sit at the bottom of the door. Alternatively, you can look for a label on the handle or side panel. If you are unable to locate the label, your best option is to contact the manufacturer directly.
