Safety

As parents are, we'd like to give our babies the best start in life, and it starts with a safe crib. You shouldn't use an infant crib with a lot loose or missing pieces and you shouldn't choose one that isn't in line with the current safety standards. If you're purchasing a new crib, be sure to look for CPSC, ASTM, or JPMA certification to ensure that it is up to the highest safety requirements.

They should not contain any cutouts with decorative designs or other embellishments which could result in injury. A mattress support system is also crucial to the safety of the crib, and it should be adjustable to different sizes to accommodate your child as they develop.

Avoid hanging objects such as curtains or blinds, since they could strangle your baby. It's a good idea to inspect your crib on a regular basis for missing or loose items, and replace any that are loosened over time.

Some cribs have an additional side panel that can be lowered, but it won't stay down for long. They are great for parents who wish to co-sleep, but without the dangers of bed sharing, but make certain that you're in a room away from radiators and windows and that your baby isn't too close to the window or curtain sill.

If you're looking for an environmentally friendly crib, choose one made of wood from sustainable forests. It is also recommended to choose a crib that has been Greenguard Gold Certified. This means it has passed the tests to ensure that it emits no chemical emissions.
