Types of Oven Hob

A hob is a flat, elevated surface that heats pans and pots. There are different types of hobs, such as electric, gas and induction.

Look for features like rotary, touch or position controls. They let you control the heating zones at the touch of a button. They also stop them from being tripped over easily, especially by children.

Ceramic Hobs

Ceramic hobs are stylish and functionality in a modern kitchen. However the glossy surface is susceptible to scratches and stains from food and burnt-on cooking residues. To keep your hob looking good and functioning effectively, you should maintain an ongoing cleaning routine. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or a scrubbing pad.

Hobs of this kind are heated by passing an electric current through coiled metal components which are hidden beneath the glass surface. These elements produce heat when they are activated using control knobs. Some models have an element that radiates heat through the surface of the glass. Some models use the halogen element, which is more powerful. They heat the entire surface in successive pulses.

Some of our ceramic hobs are equipped with advanced safety features, like a residual heat indicator, which warns you when the surface is hot to the touch. This prevents burns. Some ceramic hobs have child locks to prevent children from accidentally changing the settings.

It is essential to select the correct cookware for your ceramic hob. This ensures that the pans are flat-bottomed. This helps to ensure uniform heat distribution and helps avoid hot spots that could result in food being overcooked or undercooked. Avoid dragging pans across the surface as this could scratch the glass tempered.

We recommend ceramic hobs that have a dual-ring design, or 'I Flex zone. It can be used to accommodate two single pots or one large pan. You'll need a pan with a minimum size of 30cm to make it register. We also have models equipped with a booster burner to allow rapid heating of specific areas or pots, which is great for stir-fry or searing steak. Some models have an automatic shut-off feature that shuts off the hob at a predetermined time to prevent it from overheating. This is a useful security feature to have for peace of mind. This feature is activated by pressing "Power' on the control panel after the appliance has reached its maximum temperature.

Gas Hobs

A gas hob, also known as a gas stove or gas cooker, is an appliance in the kitchen that uses an flammable natural gas or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) as the source of fuel. The flame heats both cookware as well as the air around it. This allows for quick cooking and precise temperature control. Gas hobs are designed to be elevated, which offers additional safety by preventing the body from coming in contact with the flame. This eliminates the risk of burning. However, this elevated design requires special care when cleaning and using the hob to avoid accidentally spilling liquids on the burners.

A traditional gas hob is lit by an igniter or an igniter and the burners are manually controlled. More recent models feature an automatic igniter that ensures the gas is lit on its own. The flame is then controlled through the control knobs making it easy to adjust the heating level according to your needs. Some gas hobs are equipped with multiple flame burners, depending on the model. This provides greater cooking flexibility.

Gas hobs require a continuous gas supply, which can be problematic if you live in a region with an unreliable or erratic supply. Additionally, best hob require regular maintenance to guard against the risk of leaks and corrosion. Hobs made of gas should only be installed by Gas Safe Registered Fitters who can ensure that the installation is safe and adhere to strict safety protocols.

Gas appliances remain popular in a few areas, even though electric and induction hobs are growing in popularity. This is partly due to the preferences of consumers and concerns about the environment, as well as local energy prices and availability. Therefore, it is crucial to evaluate the utility costs of your kitchen's infrastructure before choosing a model of hob.

Hobs induction

Induction hobs are a favourite for our customers who want modern and stylish kitchens. They use magnetism to warm the pans rather than heating plates or burning gas underneath. Copper coils are situated beneath the glass ceramic surface. A current of alternating electricity is passed through them. When an induction-compatible saucepan is placed on the top of the cooker, the coils detect the magnetic base and induce heat directly into the pot or pan itself. This is more efficient than traditional gas stoves and is more efficient in energy usage. The glass-ceramic surface is cool to feel and easy to clean.

Like other modern hobs, induction hobs are also designed to be more easy to keep clean than their gas counterparts. A quick wipe with a damp cloth is all you need to keep your induction hob looking good as new.

Induction cooking requires that you make use of the appropriate cookware. Cast iron, stainless steel and certain non-stick pans are compatible but they need an induction-compatible magnetic base. If you're not sure whether your existing cookware is induction-compatible, a quick test is to place a magnet on the bottom of the pan. If it sticks firmly, then your pan is induction-compatible.

A range of induction hobs is available, from budget models to top brands that come with a full TFT display and an extensive operating menu. The hob displays the pan's position in full-color when it is placed in an area of power. A control button or slider lets you to alter the power setting or set a clock. There are a variety of clever gadgets, including pan sensors that adhere to the sides of cookware to communicate with the oven using bluetooth to control the power.

One of our most popular models is an induction stove that includes a built-in extractor fan to reduce the smoke, steam and cooking smells. This model is ideal for homes with a limited space as it removes the requirement for a separate extractor fan. Like other induction hobs it utilizes magnetic fields with frequencies in the kilohertz range to generate the heat that affects your pan and its contents. In normal operation at a distance of five to ten centimeters, these fields conform with the reference value for the magnetic flux density established for the relevant frequency range by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection and no health effects are anticipated.

Electric Hobs

The most efficient electric hobs are sleek and designed to fit all kitchen styles. These are great for those who prefer touch controls over dials, and they come with a range of options that can meet your cooking needs. They are mostly made from glass, which is easy-to-clean and stylish in a black or a white design. Some models have a bridge function to combine two zones to accommodate larger pans, while others come with an energy boost button to provide an extra amount of heat when you're performing a task that is particularly difficult.

Induction hobs are increasing in popularity because they offer a modern and clean design that fits well with today's kitchen designs. They cook quickly and provide the highest level of safety. For instance they tend to cool down quicker than gas cookers and have a "hot" indicator light that is on to inform you that the cooking area is hot to the surface. They also work more efficiently because the magnetic field only heats the pan, not the air around it.

However, there are some things to consider when choosing an induction cooker which is that most require a power supply with the correct breakers and cables, so we'd recommend having your electric hob installed by a qualified electrician. Induction hobs can be costly, and you will need to purchase a set compatible induction pans if you want to get the most benefit from them. They may cost more because they require more energy.
