Whether your child is too big to fit in a bunk bed or simply looking to maximize their bedroom space a mid sleeper is the perfect solution. With desks and storage space, these beds are versatile and a parents dream.

All ages can benefit from mattresses that are lower than the frame, which means that children cannot roll out of bed in the middle of sleep.

Height

A mid-sleeper bed is a mattress for kids that's slightly lower than the high-sleeper. The beds have a higher sleeping surface, with a space below that could be used as storage, desk or play area. These beds are a great choice for smaller rooms, providing the same amount of space for sleeping as a bunk bed but taking less floor space. The beds are also great for kids who wish to share the bedroom with a partner or sibling as they can accommodate two mattresses.

The height of a mid-sleeper varies based on the design. However, they are typically between 110 cm and140 cm high. This is the same height of the standard bed frame. The majority of our mid sleepers require a single mattress, however some models may be suitable for a double or even a triple mattress so be sure to check the specifications of the product prior to making your purchase.

For midi bunk bed on many of our models is designed with safety in mind. It has broad steps that are easy to use and reduce the chance of accidents. We advise that children use their mid sleepers for sleeping and not for hanging off the ladder, as this could increase the risk of falls and injury. We also advise against using a middle-sleeper for children who are younger than six years old, since they might struggle to climb the stairs safely.

Space

Mid sleepers (sometimes called cabin beds) are elevated enough from the ground to allow furniture to be placed underneath, turning rooms into multi-purpose study, play and sleeping zones. These beds are ideal for children whose rooms lack the space to accommodate other furniture. They're also designed to be sturdy and robust.

Mid-sleeper beds often come with ladders or stairs that children can climb up to reach the sleeping space above, instead of requiring them to climb up or crawl into bed, as traditional bunk beds or high sleeper beds do. This can make them easier for children of all ages to use and encourages independence when getting ready for bed. It's important to ensure the ladder or stairs have guard rails that meet safety standards and are used in a way that doesn't pose any risk of injury.

A mid-sleeper is typically equipped with a lot of storage space. Many models come with the cubby hole or stairway-like drawer under the sleeping platform that can be used to store books, toys and trinkets. Many parents love these features as they help declutter their child's bedroom and help create a more organized sanctuary that still allows plenty of space for children to play.

Another benefit of mid-sleeper beds is that they can be used as a desk or workstation. This is great to help children with their homework and projects, but it's also an excellent opportunity to teach good habits of study and to promote the importance of a dedicated workspace. Most models come with tables that pull out and can be neatly tucked into the corner when not being used. This is particularly useful in small bedrooms where maximising space is essential.

If your child is creative, they will love the idea of a bed that can be transformed into a castle for princesses or a cozy living space. This is especially true of the Skye Playhouse mid-sleeper which has been designed to resemble an actual house, complete with windows and roof. Kids can decorate the exterior of the Skye Playhouse mid-sleeper with curtains or even twinkling lights to add a fun touch.
