WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. button, which displays an item's preview when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. item upgrades can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less, even if they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. They can make use of Flightstones that are a common upgrade currency that is accessible to everyone, or crests, which are more specific and consumed during upgrades on specific levels of the item. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
