Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children are able to push it. A smooth ride is crucial as babies can feel every bump in the road, especially when it's on rough terrain like grass or unpaved paths. Some models come with front tires that lock to assist in maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.

Certain models have air-filled tyres that give you a great all-terrain experience, but they can be susceptible to punctures, so ensure you have spares in the trunk. Some models have gel or foam tyres, which are designed to take the bumps and can be less susceptible to punctures, but you might find them a little stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back if you decide to run.

Folding

A three-wheel double buggy could be folded up easily to be stored. There are options that fold flat or stand up (as though they were in the form of a pushchair) and also are able to open up to reveal more umbrella-style folding with a hand-operated break. In general the more wheels a buggy has the more comfortable it will be to maneuver on rough terrain. This is especially true if your wheels are larger than typical size. You will have more stability, and it's less likely that you will be forced to tip over or flip your child.

A popular option is the iCandy Wave, which can be used from birth with an infant car seat. It then converts to a side-by-side double buggy once your child is old enough for them to sit next to each other. It's a lightweight option which makes it easy to push, and it comes with extra features, including a bumper bar and raincover.

The phil&teds sports is a different option. It is a future-proof model as it is brilliant as a buggy that can be altered to take two (or three!) in its small footprint. It is a clever 3-wheel design with a sling seat for superior manoeuvrability, stability and the ability to pop the kerb.

This is one of the best double buggies for jogging with your children. It features an adjustable front wheel that locks, that will allow you to maintain control on rough terrain or off-road. It comes with a huge undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and a soft suspension that gives you a comfortable ride.

It's a light and compact option that folds in one hand and is ideal for travel. It's compatible with a variety of infant car seats, and has a handy undercarriage basket to store shopping. It's on the expensive side, but it does have some notable features that make it an excellent price, including its simple one-click fold, and numerous extras including a bumper bar and raincover.

Storage

One thing that many people appreciate about a great triple wheeled double buggy is its storage capabilities. Certain models, like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket as well as two handy zip pockets in the hood that keep keys and your phone within easy reach. It's the smallest side-by-side double available and it comes with some amazing technology that includes game-changing LED visibility lights on each side of the buggy frame to improve safety in dim lighting conditions.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a stroller that is light enough to accommodate twins from birth, and is world-facing with a lie-flat seat, is something different. Its clever frame expands widthways to accommodate the additional seat but it still only weighs in at around 11kg, which makes it easy to lift and manoeuvre. It can be used with the car seat, a carrycot or both. This lets you enjoy the best of both worlds.
