Our mum tester loved this luxurious cot that is gorgeous enough to be a perfect fit for Scandi style nurseries, but it is also very practical with three mattress base heights that will keep it functional until your child is around four years old.

Mountain Summit Gear Horizon Cot

The Mountain Summit Gear Horizon Cot is our top budget choice and an ideal option for campers seeking a simple sleeping solution. It's simple to set up and pack and comfortable to sleep on. The cot's huge, wide base can accommodate those who are up to 6 feet tall and 300 lbs. Our testers reported that it was stable on all kinds of terrain. It also has a side pocket to store items such as sleeping pads, water bottles, and phones. While it's more bulky than some backpacking cots but the Mountain Summit Gear Horizon Cot is still a great option for portable storage and fits well into most camping tents for cars.

If you're looking to buy something a more luxurious then the REI Cooperative Kingdom Cot 3 is a great choice. The cot is designed to sleep two people and has a sleeping area that's incredibly comfortable even without an air mattress. The cot comes with a soft quilted surface that's comfy to lie on, as well as baffles on the sides that stop the occupants from falling off. The cot is extremely sturdy thanks to its heavy aluminum and steel bars, which are connected to the massive swinging feet. Our testers found it simple to set up, however the last knob that connects the main bar requires additional strength from a third party.

The Byer of Maine Easy Cot is an great option. It's a lot like to the top choice when it comes to setting up and packing. It folds similarly similar to the folding camping chair. The middle joints snap together easily. It's heavier and bigger than the Osage river model however, it folds down into a smaller carrying case that's about the same size as a camping chair's carry bag. It has a larger sleeping area as well as an additional storage compartment on the side, making it a great option for anyone who is looking for an easy camping bed that can be used as a spare guestbed at home. The cot is available in a model with a headrest for additional comfort.

It has a broad base at each leg which can be swiveled to adjust to uneven ground. It's also affordable and is available with or without a mattress.

The Coleman ComfortSmart is an excellent option for car campers. However, it's probably not the best option for hikers who backpack or backcountry trek. It's too heavy for long distances. This is the reason it's best suited for those who drive to their campsites. Additionally the legs can be a little difficult to unfold correctly and require some strength to return them to the body of the cot for storage.

Helinox Lite Cot

The Helinox Cot One Convertible combines precision engineering with non-stretch fabric to create a light camp bed that is comfortable and durable. Its patented tensioners remove the need for bulky crossbars and braces, and provide great tension to the bed's surface without adding weight. They also keep the cot from flattening when it's positioned on uneven ground. This model's only downside is its price.

If you're a backpacker on a tight budget there are other budget Cot options available. The OEX Ultralite Folding Cot, for example, costs less than half the price of the Helinox Lite Cot while being significantly heavier. The main drawback to the OEX is that it's not as straightforward to assemble and may be difficult for small-framed people to bend its five aluminium leg assemblies into place.

Helinox Lite Cots feature a unique tensioning system with a lever lock, which makes them simpler to assemble and disassemble. The lever is situated on the opposite side of each leg. It has an arm pivoting that connects with the top frame bar. The other side of the lever is a tab that is compressed and you depress to release it. This system uses mechanical leverage to provide an excellent tension on the bed's surface, without adding bulk or stress to the legs.

The Lite Cot can also be adjusted to a different height by using the leg extensions provided. This is very helpful when camping in an alpine area where you'll need to get off the ground due to snow or uneven terrain. The low profile of the cot can be a disadvantage for those who move a lot in their sleep, or who have to share a space with a person else.

Like other cots the Lite Cot requires a bit of practice to set up and disassemble. After a few uses it becomes easy to use and pack. It's also extremely lightweight and compact for a cot and will fit into the majority of SUVs, cars and vans, even if they are jam-packed with equipment. This makes it an excellent option for bike and car camping.

ALPS Mountaineering ReadyLite Cot

The ALPS Mountaineering ReadyLite Cot makes a great choice for those looking for lightweight, easy to pack and set-up backpacking cot. Its aluminum 7000 series frame and 420D honeycomb ripstop polyester make this cot very lightweight and durable. In fact, it weighs less than 5 pounds and has a 300-pound capacity for weight. It folds into a 7x17 inch carry bag which makes it easy to transport.

The ALPS ReadyLite Cot is unlike other cots that require you to spread it out from the middle. Instead its legs extend at the bottom of each side. This means that all you need to do is spread the cot and tighten the straps. We found it to be one of the simplest cotes to set up and set up, though its dimensions could cause it to be too big to fit into some tents.

ALPS Mountaineering ReadyLite, while not as portable as other cots in this list is still the best choice for backpacking cots. Additionally, its wide feet at the base of each leg can swivel to adjust to uneven ground and even allow you to sleep in the rain.
