WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. item upgrading used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with an button, which will display an image of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true even if the items come from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut also, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of options. They can use Flightstones, which are a common upgrade currency available to everyone, or crests, which are more specialized and are used to upgrade specific item levels. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
