Dual Fuel Range Cooker With 13amp Plug

Are you a home cook who enjoys the fast cooking control of gas cooktops but wants an electric oven for baking? Discover a dual-fuel range cooktop that gives you the best of both worlds.

Many experienced home chefs favor gas cooktops for their superior temperature control and capacity to employ sophisticated cooking techniques, such as grilling. These cooktops can be expensive, particularly when you need an additional gas connection and electrician to install it.

What is a 13amp plug?

If you have a dual-fuel range cooker (also known as a gas cooker and an electric oven), you will need a 13 amp plug. The plug will also need to be wired hard into the cooker circuit ring by a qualified electrician.

silver dual fuel range cookers assures that the current that flows through the plug is safe and not too high which could result in an electrical fire risk. The plug is equipped with an electrical fuse that regulates the current. The fuse explodes whenever the current passes through it beyond its capacity, which safeguards the appliance from overload of electricity.

The fuse is rated at 13 amps as indicated on the top of the plug and it indicates the maximum current that the plug can pass without causing harm to the appliance or overheating the socket. When replacing fuses, it is essential to use the same amperage rating as the original. You run the risk of overheating a socket if you replace a fuse using an unrelated rating.

A 13 amp fuse is likely to be a ceramic type that is extremely durable and can withstand the high temperatures produced by the range cooker. Ceramic elements are also fire-resistant and thus a better choice than other types.

There are several ways that a 13 amp plug could be installed. It could be wired to an existing live socket. the flex then connected to this by an screw or a plastic jaw-type cord clamp. The plug must be put in place with a firm push and then tightened, making sure that the cord clamp is secure.

Before connecting the wires you may need to remove the cardboard wiring diagram that is placed on top of the pins on some plugs. The wires must be trimmed to the correct length, because when they are too long, they may be crushed when the plug covers are replaced. The earth wire must be the longest one to ensure that it is connected before the neutral and line pins.

How do I connect the 13amp plug?

The vast majority of dual cookers that use fuel in the UK are equipped with an amp rating of 13 amps. This is important because ovens draw a significant current, and standard plug sockets only have a rating of 10 amps.

In general new appliances must be fitted with a plug at the point of sale. This is to ensure compliance with the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety Regulations) 1994. However, older appliances may not have an outlet and that is the reason why the problem occurs.

The first step to take when connecting a cooker to an existing plug socket is to make sure that the rating of the fuse in the fuse box is in line with the rating of the plug. This is crucial since a faulty sized fuse could be dangerous.

It is also advisable to ensure that the fuse is fully set within the cartridge and that there isn't any excessive movement within it. The next step is to prepare the flex to be used. Take off the sheathing and reveal the three insulated conductors. Utilize a utility knife to nick the sheathing just beyond the cord grip at the entry point of the plug. The blade will not cut through the conductors that are insulated. The nick should be wide enough to allow for the sheathing and cable to separate as the sheathing is pulled back. Finally cut off the excess sheathing leaving about 40mm over the flex end.

The flex is placed over the plug with the earth terminal on the top and the neutral and live terminals at the bottom. Using the conductors with the colors to guide you and the sheathing is removed from each pin and the internal cable is inserted to the appropriate terminal by using the cord grip. If the plug has a screw-type cord clamp, loosen this and then pull back the insulation to reveal the copper conductors. Then, connect each of the conductors insulated to the correct terminal (starting with the earth, then neutral and finally the live) using the channel that they run through in the plug.

What is the maximum current draw of a plug with 13amps?

The maximum current draw for a 13amp plug is 3kw at 230volts. This is a lot of power, but the standard fuse in the UK plug will not fail until the cable has reached to a risky temperature. It is crucial to be aware of the amount of electricity you use in your kitchen, since a defective plug or socket could cause an explosion.

The ceramic fuses used in plugtops weigh around 25mm and are suitable for 240V mains. The fuses will bear the BS Kitemark or a similar mark on the side and they'll also contain sand. There are cheaper glass or plastic alternatives, but they should not be used with a live plug unless you want to cause a fire and get electrocuted!

Most dual fuel range cookers in the UK require hard-wired and are not able to plug directly into the wall socket. They are usually connected using a separate cooker circuit which is suitable only for appliances with a maximum of 20 amps.

Check the ring circuit at your home with the fuse box, or ask a local electrician. They will be able to inform you if the sockets within your home are on the same ring or separate and whether there is a dedicated circuit for your oven.

What is the maximum current draw of the cooker switch?

There is a lot confusion about the maximum current draw for a cooker switch. The reality is that the majority of cookers aren't made to plug into an ordinary socket, but instead are wired hard and connected to a specific oven ring circuit. This is because they typically consume more than 20 amps when both the gas hob and electric oven are in use.

So, you won't find a dual fuel range cooker that can be connected to a standard socket as it could pose a serious fire risk and would be in violation of electrical regulations. A licensed electrician must always install new electrical circuits in the kitchen, connecting them to the cooker. They will also make sure that the load of the oven and the hob does not exceed the circuit's power supply capacity.

The benefits of a dual fuel range cooker are the receptive heating of a gas cooktop with the precision of an electric oven. This is why they're popular among chefs and cooks at home alike. If you are looking to experiment with different cooking techniques, such as searing and charring, a dual fuel range cooker is the best choice.
