Bedside Crib and Travel Cot

Bedside cribs resemble a bassinet and are connected to the side of the bed. Some have a side that can be adjusted to allow easy access, while others come with an incline that is perfect for reflux babies.

Easy to assemble

It's the ideal solution for a mother recovering from a c-section since you can easily carry your baby up to you for nappy or night feeds changes without having to get out of bed. And the cosiest cribs also have breathable mesh sides you can see your newborn through.

Some cribs lower the barrier completely, giving you the convenience of co-sleeping without the risks (check that the crib you choose meets the latest safety requirements though). It's also extremely easy to assemble as Georgina, who took part in our MFM tests, put it together speedily and didn't have to consult the instructions. It's also a great travel cot. It folds flat and easily fits into a bag.

The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, is also on the larger side however it is still compact and easy to attach to your bed. Georgina found it easy to put together, though she did find that the zips could have been more clearly explained on the instruction sheet.

Easy to clean

If you're considering bedside cribs and travel cots make sure they come with a mattress cover which can be washed in the machine. This will help keep it free of leaky nappies, infant sick and drips. It's also a good idea to choose one that is able to be disassembled and dismantled in parts, so that you can access all the corners and crevices for a thorough cleaning and sanitising.

This is important, as it's the best way to make sure that all germs and dirt have been removed. Verify that the sides of the crib are secure to ensure that your baby doesn't fall down or get trapped.

You'll also need to ensure that the crib is easy to clean and it is a good fit for your bed. This is especially important in the case of a bedside crib that sleeps with your child.
