Reasons Your Fiat 500 Key Fob Won't Work

A key fob from Fiat 500 is a convenient way to open the doors and start the car. However, there are a variety of reasons why the fob may stop functioning. This could be due to a dead coin battery, damage to the receiver module, issues, or interference.

This listing is for an NEW replacement Fiat Flip Key Remote - look-alike Ilco brand that must be professionally programmed by a local locksmith (click here to search for a Locksmith Search). It includes lock, unlock, and trunk buttons.

Dead Coin Battery

A dead battery is the most common cause of your 500 key fob that isn't working. Modern key fobs come with a limited operating range and must be within some feet of the vehicle to operate. If you're far from your vehicle and you hit the keyfob, it won't respond and display the message "Key Fob Not Detected".

If this occurs If this happens, replace the battery in the coin-cell (Part Number CR2032) with a new battery of a trusted brand such as Panasonic Duracell or Energizer. You can find them in your local hardware store or on the internet.

You can test the battery on your coin-cell by pressing the buttons while you are standing close to your Fiat 500. The parking lights will flash and the key fob should operate the lock and unlock switch.

If your key fob does not work after replacing the battery, it may be water damage which has prevented it from communicating with the module inside your vehicle. Water damage can happen through a variety of methods, including a simple splash or submerging the key fob saltwater at the beach. If you suspect that your fob was exposed to water, you can place it in a rice bag to draw out the moisture. If this does not work, you'll need to have your fob reset by an auto locksmith or a dealer.

Water Damage

Water damage can occur when you immerse the fob in the ocean or wash it in a washing machine. Saltwater can be particularly harmful to the circuit board of the fob which causes it to short out and eventually die. If you get the fob wet, it's not an option, but if you drop it in a cup of water or fail to take it out of your pocket before you run the washing machine do not give up hope.

Take the battery off first. Before replacing the battery, clean the electronic chip using isopropyl or similar products. Then test fiat key replacement to check if it functions. If the key does not work, it may have to be programmed again. This is usually handled by an auto locksmith or dealer.

If your key is older and not programmed for your car then you'll need to replace it completely. A professional locksmith for automotive can complete this simple process. The locksmith will require the key to be cut to match your vehicle's ignition. They'll also need to reprogram the fob to your car's system. This is a quick and cost-effective process that can be completed within the same day.

Receiver Module Issues

One of the simplest reasons why your 500 key fob won't be functioning is that it's out of range. The remote typically has an area of 30 feet or less and if it's far away from your car it won't respond to your commands. You can solve this issue by moving the remote closer to your vehicle until it responds.

If you've replaced the battery in your coin (commonly called"button" or "button" or "watch") and the fob won't work It could be because of an internal circuit board issue. Reprogramming your fob can resolve this problem. You can find directions on how to do this for all vehicles by searching YouTube or looking through the owner's manual.

You may have to replace the metal retaining clips that hold the coin battery in place. If they loose tension it can prevent the coin battery from being properly seated and could result in the malfunction of your remote.

In rare instances the fob could be desync'd with your vehicle due to software problems or hardware issues. This issue can be fixed by visiting your local auto-locksmith or dealer to reprogram your key fob. In some cases the software may require reinstallation into your body control modules.

Interference

Interference can also cause the key fob to not be able to receive or transmit the signal. This can happen when the key fob is in proximity to the radio transmitter (cell phones and radar detectors) or any other source of electromagnetic radiation. Other reasons the key fob could not function include a weak connection to the buttons or damage to the internal chip, or water damage.

If the key fob failed to work one day suddenly and you've tried every option at home to fix it e.g. You may have a faulty 500 receiver module if you've tried replacing the battery, reprogramming or using a spare key fob. The receiver module is situated under the dash and receives the radio frequency signals from the key fob. It transforms the signals into electronic commands, which are then read by the vehicle.

There's a quick and easy way to reset the 500's internal system including the keyfob. Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes, removing first the negative cable and then the positive cable. Then reconnect the battery. This will eliminate any remaining electricity and then restart the car's computers, which could help get your key fob working again. If the issue continues, you should seek the advice of an expert technician. They can determine the exact cause of your issues.
