What is an Upgrade Item in World of Warcraft?

An upgrade item is a piece of equipment that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to boost their effectiveness. It can be obtained by completing certain keystones of high-tier dungeons.

Trainers will need an Upgrade to evolve Porygon into its final evolution, Porygon2. These exclusive evolution items are scarce and can't be found by spinning PokeStops or Gyms.

Components

In the field of computer technology, an upgrade is a replacement of software or hardware with a version that provides new functions or features. Upgrades are usually performed to make the system faster, more reliable, or capable of handling greater amounts of data. Hardware upgrades include hard disk drives and motherboards. Upgrades to computers must be compatible with the specifications of the computer being upgraded.

In Guild Wars 2, upgrade items can be slotted into armor, weapons or trinkets to give an attribute bonus or another effect when the equipment is used. To be accepted as a component, an item must have a slot for an upgrade and be at an appropriate level.

Components can be purchased from vendors in Night City or obtained by disassembling items which don't function. They can also be found in random locations all over the world. Unlike weapons and gear, components can be purchased from vendors even if they're not level-appropriate or high-leveled.

There are many kinds of components. Universal upgrades (such as gems) can be put on any equipment, however they provide smaller bonuses than those that are limited to a particular type. Jewels are only available in trinkets. They also offer a more bonus points than any other upgrade.

There are also inscriptions, which are special upgrade items that are only placed in a trinket and can be used to add an experience multiplier. These can be very useful to min/max a character since they are relatively cheap to obtain, but they do not stack with any other experience modifiers.

Infusions can be added to legendaries and non-ascended armor as well as certain non-legendary items. You can retrieve them using the tool for extraction of infusions or salvaging them with the Ascended Rescue Tool. It is important to note that upgrading an item using infusions will result in the item having the unique name. For example, adding an infusion of Rune of Minor Vigor to an Tyrian Armor will cause it to display the name "Radiant Tyrian Armor." In the hover display, an inscription will appear as an Inscribed weapon.

Glyphs

Glyphs are the items that increase the specific substatus of a piece of gear. You can find them in a variety of places, however the most common is the completion of Nightmare Dungeons or Helltides. You can also find them by visiting the Faction Crypts. Glyphs in the crypts will only be available to specific classes, so make sure to claim only those that are applicable to your character. You can use your Glyphs at the Glyph Altar in Teleria. This altar will boost your enchanted item's value by a certain amount based on the Glyph you choose to use.

The majority of the glyphs that are available will provide a boost to your primary stat, but some may have additional effects like increasing healing, damage or resistance. Glyphs that are upgraded will appear as they are in your inventory.

Some items dropped come with the default glyph, which will automatically upgrade when you upgrade the item. This is only applicable to glyphs that were manually crafted onto the item, not the original enchantment. Glyphs that automatically upgraded will always be a higher quality than the glyph you hand-crafted on the item.

Glyphs of Insight can be difficult to obtain, though because the RNG part of their making can cause them to be not available when you require them. To assist with this, we've designed a Glyph of Insight Crafting Spreadsheet to guide players through the process of crafting.
