The Band Toto

Toto is often criticized for being too polished or calculated. But, live, the band exhibits a more raw intensity. Guitarist-extraordinaire Steve Lukather demonstrates why he is considered one of the best session musicians in the business.

Albums

The discography of the American rock group Toto includes 13 studio albums, 4 live albums, and several compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won a number of Grammy Awards for their work.

Before the formation of Toto the band, members performed sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session drummer Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs album from 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 following the collaboration.

The third album of Toto, Turn Back, marked a change from the more progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for the lack of hit singles. In 1985 the lead singer Fergie Frederiksen left the group The band held auditions to find a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the band. The group went through old recordings and tapes to create the special record. The album was well-received by fans and the band embarked on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun The drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In the year 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included tour recordings and also an interview with the group.

At the conclusion of the tour the band decided to let him go, and they hired singer/guitarist Joseph Williams to take his place. Drummer David Hungate also left the group after the tour. He was replaced by bassist Leland Sklar.

The TOTO Museum is an impressive futuristic structure that houses a number of exhibit rooms that are devoted to telling the story of the company and its most innovative products. The song "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. It was written by band members and produced by David Paich. It was a huge hit in Europe and a variety of other countries. The success of the single helped Toto to regain their fame, after their previous album Turn Back failed to chart in the United States.

Toto began a global tour after the release of their album. The group was joined by touring musicians Lenny Castro, Shannon Forrest, Warren Ham and Shem von Schroeck. In addition, guitarist Steve Lukather released his second solo album, Luke.

In 1985 In 1985, drummer Fergie Frederiksen left Toto due to personal reasons. The group decided to hold an audition, and eventually chose Joseph Williams to replace Frederiksen.

Prior to and during the creation of Toto, its members did sessions for various artists. Toto was formed after Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and Boz Scaggs recorded Silk Degrees. Keyboardist Paich was frequent on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

In 1998, Toto began working on an album called Old Is New. The album featured three new tracks as well as several finished recordings of older songs. The album received a lot of attention across the globe and the band embarked on a world tour to promote the album.

The group Toto, best known for their hit single "Africa" Recently, the band came together for a concert tour to promote their latest album, All In. The album, which was released on November 6, 2018 included three brand new tracks from the upcoming 40 Trips Around the Sun as also completed recordings of four older tracks with Jeff Porcaro playing drums and Mike or Steve Porcaro playing bass. The album also included an original cover of Weezer's song "Hash Pipe" that the band decided to add after hearing a rendition on the radio.
