This means that there is less need for other appliances like toasters or warming plates. When evaluating potential amended energy conservation standards, DOE conducts several analyses that include market and technology assessment screening analysis, engineering analysis and national impacts analysis (NIA). In this SNOPR, DOE will utilize its engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the level of efficiency improvement is feasible for this particular product. In the engineering analysis, DOE will compare the design parameters of a microwave against an energy performance set of objectives. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class. As part of NIA, DOE will assess the effects on consumers, including the lifecycle cost savings, and simple payback period (PBP). DOE will employ its Government Regulatory Impact Model with an adaptation for microwave ovens to calculate the industry's net present value ("NPV"). The impact on manufacturers will be evaluated as well and DOE will use a modified version of its Industry Cash Flow model that has been modified for this type of product to estimate manufacturing NPV. In addition, DOE will consider the potential impact on small business manufacturers as well as other subgroups of manufacturers to determine if they could be disproportionally affected by these proposals. Additionally, stoves built in microwave will consider whether the test procedures for microwave ovens must be revised to include active mode energy use and an active mode energy use measurement. Currently, the test protocols only address standby mode power use. Design Wall ovens rely on the circulation of hot air evenly while microwaves rely on waves to cause water molecules in food items to vibrate and generate heat. Combination wall ovens combine these two distinct appliances into a single unit that saves kitchen space and gives an elegant, modern look. However, you must carefully think about your needs and budget before deciding to purchase a combination wall oven. Some of the combo ovens we evaluated have performance or design issues.
