Buying a Double Buggy 3 Wheels

The versatile single-to-double buggy comes with 17 different configurations for sleeping and seating children from newborn to toddler, and even an additional one with iCandy's "piggy back board. It's also one of the slimmest side-by-sides and fits through doors like a single pushchair.

It's a compact and light stroller that has an easy to use fold that can be accomplished one-handed. It is also suitable for different environments and comes with a handy shopping bag.

Adaptability

When you're looking to purchase a double buggy, there's a lot to think about. You'll need to ensure that your children are comfortable and safe as you travel new routes and sights. You'll also want to consider the overall cost, size, weight and durability. Selecting a reputable brand (within budget) will boost resales and make the buying process easier.

Based on the number of children you have to carry, there are two primary kinds of double buggy with 3 wheels: front-facing and side-byside. The buggies that are side-by-side tend to be smaller, but they have a larger footprint than the front-facing models. However there are a few super-smart models available which manage to keep their dimensions down, like the Mountain Buggy Duet. This is the slimmest buggy in the entire world. It can even fit through doorways that are narrow.

Tandem buggies are usually larger. They start as a single stroller, but can be adjusted by adapters to accommodate a second seat, or carrycot. Some tandem buggies are able to accommodate twins, a toddler and a baby or a child with a newborn due to their innovative seat configurations. The UPPAbaby Vista 2 can be transformed into a triple by adding the optional "Piggy Back Board".

The iCandy Orange tandem buggy is another smart tandem buggy with unique 'cinema-seat' design. It lets you adjust the rear seat so that your children can be seated in different positions. This allows you to select from 30 different seating options. It is ideal for parents with young children who are at different stages of development.

Another option is phil&teds sport. This first-of-its-kind, multi award winning buggy will future proof your wallet by being a brilliant single from the beginning and then adapting to take 2 (or three!) as your family grows - all within the same footprint of one buggy! This is possible thanks to the innovative sling seat that's ideal for babies and offers the best maneuverability, stability and kerb pop.

Manoeuvrability

In general, double pushchairs with 3 wheels are more comfortable for you to maneuver and handle than double pushchairs that have four wheels. The front wheels are smaller and less wide which results in a lighter weight. 3 wheel pushchair means that they can be pushed more easily and will also be easier to manoeuvre between kerbs.

An excellent example is the Mountain Buggy Duet. This is the slimmest tandem buggy on the market and has the same dimensions as a single stroller. It is ideal for parents who are worried about fitting in doorways or on public transportation. It can be used as early as birth, as it can be used to accommodate twins or two carrycots/car seats.

UPPAbaby Vista 2 is another alternative. It is a light buggy that is ideal for urban living and also a great choice for more uneven or rough terrain. It is suitable for twins or toddlers and babies due to its large rear wheels and four-wheel suspension. Its light frame means it can be lifted and carried easily too. The only drawback is that it's a bit harder to maneuver on uneven ground as compared to other models.

Comfort

If you're planning to take your buggy out for long walks or for jogs it's a good idea to invest in a model that is able to handle rough terrain. Choose a model with three wheels with large rear wheels that can withstand the bumps and have a suspension system that absorbs shocks. The front wheels should be fixed to give you more control over tricky terrain and allow you to easily push around corners.

Double buggys that are good for two children will give you the flexibility to alter the seating so that both children can be at ease. The most comfortable double buggys come with adjustable seating and footrests that can be reclined for older children. You'll have plenty of space to store your items, keys, and phone.

A smooth fold mechanism is another feature to keep an eye out for. Our Lab experts recommend models that have straps under the seats that allow the buggy to be pulled apart or a lever to release an opening that folds the frame in half, taking only a few seconds or so. Certain models can be folded with the seats removed, making them smaller when not being used.

The Mountain Buggy Duet has won many awards and is a side-by-side with a lot of flexibility for twins or siblings. Its innovative frame expands widthways to take the second seat (or carrycot) and still has the same footprint as a single buggy which means it'll fit through doors and public transport. It's heavier than other models, but its smooth ride compensates for the extra weight.

iCandy’s Orange Convertible, another popular side-by-side, has 30 seating configurations that can be altered to meet your needs. It's a great choice for twins as the seats can be positioned to face the parents and convert into an iCandy tandem pushchair.

The Joie Evalite Duo is a lightweight three-wheel option that's ideal for everyday use. It's not nearly as expensive as other models but its small turning radius and fixed front wheel make it trickier to manoeuvre up and down kerbs. It's simple to push and can also be used as a running buggy with the addition of a separate child car for jogging.

Safety

phil&teds sports can accommodate 2 children in a variety of ways. From infant to toddler, with their car seat adapters, or twin kit. They can even take care of 3 kids if you purchase their piggyback board separately (around PS120). It is extremely secure because of its dual front swivels, its superior maneuverability and handy footbrake. Additionally, the tray that it sits on is much larger than other lightweight double buggies and the canopy has windows that can be opened to allow for better visibility.

This multi-award winning side-by-side is the tiniest, full-featured all-terrain double buggy available on the market. Its footprint is identical to a single buggy, so it fits easily through doorways and on public transport. three wheel pushchair can tackle rough terrain with ease and our Lab experts are thrilled that it can fold down into a compact position within a matter of seconds. It also has a hand brake that is mounted on the adjustable handlebar for additional safety. The seats can be reversible which means you can decide to have the children facing forward, or the parents facing each other. This is great for twins and siblings of different ages.
