3 Wheeler Buggies A three-wheeler is perfect for tackling off-road terrain and provides the most comfortable ride for your child. They are also easier to push and maneuver than a four-wheeler, particularly those with fabric sling seats or seat units that are positioned snugly in the frame, offering the best geometry and weight distribution. Stability A three-wheel buggy has excellent stability, which is why it's a good option for off-road walks (especially with an all terrain or off-road style seat unit). They usually have large front wheels that can deal well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough terrain. Some have a lockable wheel on the front to provide additional stability while driving on uneven terrain. It's important to remember that 3-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled versions, which could mean they can topple over more readily. The most reliable 3-wheeled pushchairs are made with the best design to ensure they stay stable in any condition. They should be able to turn on a dime and be able to steer with just one hand, and feature the front wheel rotate 360o which makes them perfect for maneuvering and navigating challenging terrain. For really tricky surfaces, look out for a model with air-filled tyres, also known as pneumatic tyres. They are made to handle non-paved tracks and are able to deal with mud, gravel, rock etc. Many all-terrain buggies include an swivelling wheel on the front that can be locked for extra stability when you're dealing with rough terrain. A 3-wheel stroller is an excellent option for runners or those who prefer to walk quickly and uphill, particularly in the event that you're planning to connect a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a world-facing seat that reclines flat. It also features a more comfortable 5-point harness and storage space for all your kit (plus an extension of 50+ sun hood). It's compact, lightweight and suitable from birth and can be used with the use of a car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging however, it isn't designed for serious runners. Weight If you're looking for a buggy that can handle the tough terrain, you need one with big wheels. These are designed to handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks with ease, while still providing smooth riding. 3 wheeler pushchair are also great for jogging as they have built in suspension and are easy to move up and down kerbs. However, they're a bit heavy to push. The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels and a lockable swivel front wheel which makes it very maneuverable. It has air-filled tyres that require pumping up from time to time. It can be used by children as young as the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler was awed by the seat shape and she found steering it easy even with her 3-year-old in the seat. Another option that is great is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, that comes with an adjustable handlebar and a high-quality hood with 50+ UV protection. It is also easy to move kerbs up and down and fits in a the boot of a car that is small. It can also be used as a pram that comes with baby car seat for newborns and toddlers. Fabric sling seats are tucked inside the buggie's frame rather than on top of it like modular seats. This design has a lower center of gravity at the perfect height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you can never underestimate the amount of times you'll have to do this when you're a new parent!) Seating The capacity for 3 wheelers is impressive and there are a variety of different choices to choose from. For babies, there is the option to use the carrycot (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lying flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) and older infants and toddlers can use the world-facing or parent facing seat that is large and padded, and comes with adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to fully recline, but they can be adjusted to the lowest point. This should allow your child to have plenty of headroom and space. A sling seat made of cloth is also available, which has the advantage of being set snugly inside the frame instead of on top like a modular seat and this provides a lower center of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push especially over bumpy terrain or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath loved the way that this style of seat negotiated these obstacles. In addition to a big shopping basket, this kind of buggy typically has some pretty useful features such as an extendable 50+ UV hood, an easy to use brake pedal and some game-changing visibility lights that come up from the handlebars and can be placed directly in front of the occupants to improve their safety when traversing difficult terrain. Alternatively, if you are looking for a single buggy that can adapt to your family's needs There's the new sport(tm) which is the first of its kind to take a single newborn from the moment of birth and change to take two or even three once your baby has grown, all within the footprint of a single buggy. Stores The 3-wheeled frame makes the buggy much more stable to push with one hand and also perfect for handling difficult terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a 4-wheeler. A high-quality ATP will feature pneumatic tyres, a padded grip for better comfort, and an excellent suspension. It will accept a carrycot or car seat, meaning you can use it from the time of birth. MFM's reviewers discovered that the 3-wheeler frames didn't pass through their doors at home or car boot. If you're worried about space, make sure you check the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded before purchasing. It's worth considering 3-wheelers that can accommodate two (or even 3!) This is the best option for your future and will save you money. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the top of them and can be used as a single from day dot, and then transforms to twin buggies when your baby starts walking. Tyres These tires cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's journey more comfortable. They are commonly included on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said was "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres of the Phil and Ted's Sport made it simple for her to negotiate the kerbs and other obstacles. These tyres can be difficult to maintain and require having their air pressure regularly topped up. They are also more prone to punctures than foam tyres. So you'll need to make sure that you have repair kits with spare tubes and a pump on hand when you are out and about with your buggy. PU tyres can be found on a lot more pushchairs than air-filled tyres, yet they're just as durable. You can tell PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft, smooth feel. They also glide well on uneven and tied surfaces. You can usually tell the difference between air-filled and PU tyres by running your hand over them, if it feels hard then it's a rubber tyre, and If it slides, then it's a PU. You can also verify whether your buggy has PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres onto an even, clean surface - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit comfortably in their wheel hubs. Foam tyres are typically utilized in high-performance buggies and joggers because they can cope with the rough terrain common to this type of pushchair. This can make your buggy less stable as the foam loses its springy quality. These tyres also make a lot of noise due to the fact that they create lots of noise when you turn and drive around the town.
