Adult Female ADHD Symptoms

Women with ADHD are often underdiagnosed because of inattention to symptoms that may not be evident, gender bias among healthcare providers and symptom-masking. It is important to get a diagnosis in order to improve your relationships, set yourself up for success, and understand your behavior.

Hyperfocus

In children, hyperfocus is sometimes seen as positive, since it allows kids to become highly engaged in an enjoyable sport like skateboarding or creating with Legos. Emotional Dysregulation

Emotional dysregulation is a frequent issue that typically affects adults with ADHD. It can be difficult to manage daily stress and relationships when you are not able to control emotions. It could result in self-destructive behaviours such as eating disorders and addictions. This can make it difficult to keep a clean home, work or school life.

It can be difficult to identify your emotions or understand what they mean. This is especially difficult when you suffer from a mood disorder such as anxiety or depression. The signs of emotional dysregulation could include difficulty getting calm after a fight, having frequent outbursts or getting easily frustrated by small inconveniences and annoyances. You may also have trouble getting past events out of your mind or holding grudges.

Although everyone's experience with ADHD is unique it is important to recognize that there are methods to manage symptoms and live a happy life. It's commonplace for people to try different treatments, medications or lifestyle changes to determine the most effective solution.
