Choosing the Best Crib Newborn

The Westport Cot Bed will look beautiful in the Scandi nursery. It also provides a good variety of versatility with three mattress support height levels and the ability to transform into a toddler bed.

Bassinets are the best option if you have a small house. Cribs can take up more space. However, a lot of parents choose a crib for security reasons.

Safety

The choice of the best crib for newborns is crucial for your baby's health and well-being. You want to make sure that it is in line with current safety standards and is free of dangers that could harm your child during sleep. It should be sturdy and well-constructed, with no loose parts that could get caught on clothing or present the risk of choking. It is essential to follow the directions of the manufacturer for assembly and use and to regularly inspect the crib.

Check the distance between the slats. It should not be more than 2 and 3/4 inches to avoid your baby falling over or getting their legs trapped between them. You should be in a position to be able to see and reach your child in the crib. If you're not, the slats are too close together and need to be a bit wider.

Another aspect of the crib that you should be aware of is the mattress support system. It should be adjustable to different heights so that you can lower the mattress as your child grows. This will reduce the risk that your child will climb out of the crib once they begin to crawl.

A fitted sheet that is able to fit the bed securely and solid and sturdy construction are other security features you should be looking for. Choose a crib with fixed sides rather than one that has drop sides. Drop sides could be hazardous for your child. You should also be in the same room as your baby until they are old enough to sleep alone.

Finally, you should ensure that the crib is away from radiators and windows, and that any dangling objects like curtains or blind cords are kept out of reach. Also, you should remove anything that could create danger of choking such as blankets or pillows. Be cautious when buying used cribs as they may not be in compliance with the current safety standards or have been recalls.

Design

Although cribs may appear identical, it is important to keep in mind that all must comply with strict safety regulations. Most of the cribs that we reviewed are designed in a similar fashion to ensure the structural stability. Most cribs feature circular bars without gaps or rough surfaces that could trap the baby or squeeze them. We also tested each crib and rated it for its simplicity of use and assembly. We suggest selecting the crib with less parts to avoid confusion.

One of our favorite cribs is the Evolur Sprout Crib, which comes with an elegant, contemporary style and comes in several colors, including two-toned. It also comes with an all-inclusive mattress fit and is Greenguard Gold certified to have the lowest amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can release off-gasses into the nursery.

Another option is the Stork Craft Equinox 3-in-1. This crib is sleek and modern with minimal features that make it perfect for modern nursery. The crib comes in different finishes and four different mattress heights, so your baby can use it as a newborn or toddler. The crib was stable and sturdy. It did not move or creak when a large child climbed in.

Convertible cribs are a fantastic option if you are planning to have more children. Many of these options convert into a toddler bed and then a full-size bed giving you a long-lasting investment for your money. The Sweet2Sleep Crib is an example of a convertible crib that earned high marks from our parents who tested it. cot bed sales of them said that the side rails that drop down made feeding their baby at night more secure and easier, and the crib was roomy enough for the co-sleeping baby to feel at ease while dad and mom were sleeping.

If you're looking for a classic style DaVinci's Carter's Colby 4-in-1 is a solid choice. This crib is cheaper than the Stork Craft and has an elegant design that will complement most all nursery. It has three different mattress heights, but it may be a bit small for some children and parents with small bodies.

Mattress

Newborns can be messy, and a crib mattress that is washable is a must. Baby spit up and other accidents can leave mattresses damp and filthy that can cause mildew and other bacteria that can affect infants. Choose a mattress that is easy to clean with an mild cleaner or cloth. Also, choose a waterproof cover to stop fluids from entering the mattress.

Choose a mattress that has been that is rated for up to 10 years so that it can be used for toddlers. Many of the products reviewed here are reversible, with infant and toddler side. This allows you to use them from the time of birth until your child is ready to move on to their full-size bed.

A firm mattress for the crib is ideal, as it will support their spines as they are developing. A mattress that is firm and sturdy will also lower the chance of SIDS. This is due to the fact that mattresses that are soft increase the likelihood that an infant's head will sink into it.

Check the label on the mattress to confirm that it is in compliance with Consumer Product Safety Commission standards. The CPSC demands that mattresses be tested for waterproofing and flammability as well as lead and other chemicals which could pose a danger to babies. You can also find certifications such as Greenguard, CertiPUR and GOTS, which indicate that the mattress has been tested for volatile organic compounds that may cause harm to infants' respiratory and nervous systems.

Another factor to consider is the weight of a mattress for a crib. If you are unable to lift heavy objects or don't want to move a heavy object then you might want an easier mattress. Newton Wovenaire, for example weighs only 8 pounds, while Naturepedic Organic Crib Mattress - Dual Firmness weighs 20 lbs. This makes it one of the heavier mattresses in this review. It is also made of foam instead of inner woven-core, making it more maneuverable in comparison to the heavier coil mattress.

Assembly

A crib that's simple to put together is great for new parents. Look for one equipped with hardware that is securely held with no sharp edges or rough spots that could rub your baby's skin. Avoid cribs with drop-sides and headboard/footboard cuts -- these features don't meet the current safety standards.

If you decide to buy a convertible crib, you will require a separate kit for converting it into an adult bed. The majority of manufacturers offer these kits on their own. They're usually inexpensive, and they'll help your child transition into larger beds more easily.

Convertible cribs are an excellent option for families with multiple children. These cribs are built to last, and are typically able to be transformed into an infant bed, daybed, or full-size bed.
