For a long time, the Korean scientific community was hesitant about working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credibility. But silence is no any longer an option.

The STR has been battling to eliminate content from textbooks that describe evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. This is only one example of the way in which the development paradigm has evolved.

What is Evolution?

The theory of evolution is a branch of science that explains changes in genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their surroundings, which can cause variations in genes or even complete genomes. Over many generations the changes could lead to the emergence new species. Natural selection is the dominant theory of evolution. It explains how individuals with traits that are advantageous are more likely to reproduce and survive than those with disadvantageous ones. This differential reproduction can eventually lead to the development and emergence of new species.

The word "evolution" is derived from the Latin word meaning unrolling or revealing, but the concept has had a variety of meanings as it has taken form in the sciences and elsewhere. Some early evolutionists, like Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species transformed into other species in a predetermined fashion. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire, Lamarck's embryologist pupil who coined the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, attacked the concept of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student.

Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process by which living creatures develop traits to improve their chances of surviving or producing offspring. In time the genetic variability could lead to the emergence of entirely new biological functions or physical traits in the same population. This change in gene frequencies is called natural selection, and is the primary driver behind evolutionary change. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, can't be considered evolution because they don't pass on to the next generation.

Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and a multitude of scientific studies, creationists have seized on the idea that the theory is controversial to argue that it shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have gained a few victories in their campaign to exclude evolution from high school textbooks and have also gotten rid of any mention of the evolutionary history of humans and the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur that is thought to be an ancestral bird's parent.

Why is Evolution Important to Humanity?

Evolution explains how Earth and all its living species evolved. It also serves as a basis of biology that helps scientists learn how living organisms function and grow. Evolution also reveals the relationships between species. Scientists study evolution in order to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries, such as the development of new drugs.

The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains more about the universe and the life on our planet. It has been rigorously examined and confirmed for many years. Many people, even some religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology does not interfere with religions, since the theory deals only with objects, events and processes in the physical world.

Many religious people have discovered a way to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. Some Christians for instance believe that God created everything through evolution, and that humans share an ancestry that is shared with other animals.


It is essential that science educators advocate for the teaching evolution. In some countries, anti-evolution sentiment has been growing. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is pushing for textbook content on the evolution of horses and their Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.

Although these are alarming developments, it is important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics, and the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.

The vast majority of scientists supports the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief vary. ?????????? to make practical discoveries, such as developing medicines, while others are motivated by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are simply curious, whereas others have a strong religious belief in God.

What is Creationism?

Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists generally fall in two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).

The most common type of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the manner described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation was true and that the universe and life on Earth were created only recently.

OECs are not as well-known however they're just as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is a myth.

Both types of creationism deny that scientific principles such as natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible because it requires the creation of a miracle, and the pioneers of modern science rejected miracles out of fear of losing credibility.

Some creationists are able to accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and call their view "theistic evolution." This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." In this belief system, God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. Eventually these evolutionary changes will create new species that are similar to the original ones.

Others believe that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, called the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the original species were all created simultaneously, and that they grew slowly afterwards. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.

In general, creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. This is supported by numerous professional organizations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education as well as the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some scientists and educational institutions are more flexible and allow the inclusion of creationism and evolution in their curricula.

What is Creationism?

When people think about creationism, many of them think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. The publishers of high school textbooks recently announced that they would remove references to evolution from their books. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. STR has achieved its first victory by removing instances of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx in textbooks. The next step is to remove the finch-research of Darwin's famed as well as on human evolution.

STR claims that it has the support of around 4000 families and individuals. The goal, according to STR is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays a negative view for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that around half do not believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear, but may include religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists across the country.

The KACR has accomplished a lot in the past through seminars and lectures. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and a book. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences that has a creationist viewpoint, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor began teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught until today.

On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed an audience of several thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in major seminaries. KACR intends to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
