The Best Bedside Cot For Newborns

A bedside crib is a bassinet style that can be attached to the side of your bed which makes it easy to reach your baby for a relaxed night's feeding. These are suitable for infants from birth up to six months.

The Lullaby Trust and the NHS both recommend that babies have separate cots to their parents in their beds. This reduces the risk of SIDS. The best bedside cots make this possible.

1. Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper with Clear-Vue

In the early days of co-sleeping, a novel idea, a father and son team founded Arm's Reach and came up with a design that would let parents be able to sleep comfortably with their infants. It was the first cot with a bedside, allowing babies to sleep in close proximity without falling over or suffocating the mattress. The Clear-Vue remains in wide use in the present, with an average of 25 years and no reported injuries or deaths.

It is equipped with leg extensions to allow for different mattress heights and includes an upholstered cover and sheet. The bassinet is designed for babies up to five months old or until they begin pushing up on their knees and hands, whichever occurs first. The Co-Sleeper is able to be used as a stand-alone bassinet, or it can attach to the bed of the parent using the attached strap and plate. The Co-Sleeper is easy to switch between the two modes by pulling a string. However it is not able to conform to federal standards as an attached bed. Therefore, your baby should not be left alone.

McKenna was impressed with the Co-Sleeper's accessibility, stating that it's easy to get the baby in and out of the bassinet for meals in the middle of the night or other needs away from your bed. He also praised its safety, saying the Co-Sleeper is in compliance with all standards for bassinets and cribs and is available for decades, with "probably 1.5 million units sold" and no reported incidents of infant deaths or injuries.

The Clear-Vue bedside cot was the most accessible of the cots we tested. The swiveling sleeping area and the adjustable height of the Clear-Vue made it easy for you to reach your child and provide comfort. Other models had lower-sided walls that required you to reach over or crouch down to reach your child but not the Clear-Vue.

The Clear-Vue is the only one of our top choices that doesn't have a connection to a bed for a parent, but it was close to being better than some we tested that were meant to be affixed to a parental bed. It's sturdy and solid with plenty of storage.
