If your sliding patio door has one glass pane, you can make use of mullions to separate the pane into smaller ones for a more stylish look. Window treatments are available in soft or hard materials. They vary from shades that are cellular, roller shade, woven wood shades, and drapes, to curtains, drapes, and valances. They can be used as a stand-alone or in combination with other window treatments, like a drape.

They feature large fabric panels, also known as vanes that can be tilted open and close, allowing you to control the amount of light that enters your home. It is crucial to remember that a patio door needs to be capable of sliding between closed and open, so it's best to hang your window treatments in a high enough height to support this function. This will also help keep them out of reach for pets and children.

If your window treatments are not in the form of a valance or have no rod pocket, you can use a traverse bar to allow them to move horizontally across your sliding doors. Hang them about an inch above the patio doors so that they don't touch heads.

Rollers

When your patio door begins to sound squeaky, it's typically due to worn rollers. The rollers are located at the bottom of the doors and allow them to slide easily on a track and can become stuck or simply become rusty over time. This can make the doors hard to open and close and will create loud noises while in motion. There are few items that can help fix your sliding doors to allow them to open and close smoothly.

Start by lubricating the tracks. This will allow the door to move more smoothly, and should be done at least twice a year. You can purchase a quality lubricant at the local hardware store. If you have vinyl tracks, use a silicone spray. If you have wooden tracks, use wax-based lubricant. If the lubricant does not work, you may need to replace the rollers.

You can also adjust the rollers. This is a two-person job as you'll have to lift the doors and then locate the screws in plastic on the bottom of the track. The screws are fitted with a small plug that must be removed with the screwdriver. These screws can be turned to raise or lower rollers and let the door touch less of the track.

Another possibility is that the doors are not aligned properly in the track. This can create a gap between the frame and the door. This can allow cold air to get in on a cold morning or hot air to escape on a hot day. If this is the case, you will need to remove the door and frame to find out what caused it to open.

If the gap is caused by the track, you can repair this by removing the top layer of the track and then screwing it back into place. The gap can also be closed by installing the track in a new way and giving the door something to rest against when in use.

Tracks

Dust and dirt can accumulate near the tilt and lower/raise operators of the Next Dimension vinyl patio door and affect their performance. If your door is equipped with these, ensure that you regularly clean the surfaces using a solution of vinegar and water or a standard household window cleaner.

Signature and Pro patio doors feature an anti-lift block located in the head pocket, so they require an opening of 3- 6" opening to eliminate this feature and allow the sill track to lower. Slide the sash/panel into the open position and lift up to tilt it inward to clear the sill pocket, allow the track to slide down from the head jamb. Repeat the process for both sides of the sash/panel.

Glass

It can be a problem when the glass on your patio door is cracked. It can block sunlight from entering your home and make the space unusable. Glass that has cracked can be dangerous, as it could shatter and cause injuries if someone gets struck in the head by shards.
