Evolution Korea

Until recently the scientific community in Korea has avoided engaging with creationists, afraid that it could boost the credibility of the group. However, silence is no longer an option.

The STR has been fighting to get evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestral bird. This is only one example of how the concept of development has evolved.

What is Evolution?

?? ???? of evolution is a scientific one that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which can result in changes to genes or even whole genomes. Over the course of many generations the changes could result in the emergence of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which explains the process by which individuals with advantageous characteristics survive and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. This differential reproduction can eventually lead to the creation and evolution of new species.

???? ??? " originates from the Latin for unrolling or revealing has been used in many different ways as the concept has evolved in both science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist pupil who coined the term "transmutation" to describe this theory. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, attacked the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.

Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process in which living creatures develop traits to improve their chances of surviving or conceiving offspring. Over time, genetic variability can lead a population to acquire new physical traits or biological functions. Natural selection is the main force behind most evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolutionary because they aren't passed on to the next generation.

Creationists are using the argument that evolution is controversial despite the fact that it has been proven valid by a multitude of scientific tests and that it has been tested over time. They claim that the concept should not be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories against evolution in textbooks for high school. This includes the removal of references about the evolutionary origins for humans as well as Archaeopteryx which is a feathered dinosaur believed to be the ancestor of birds.

Why is Evolution important to humanity?

Evolution is the explanation for the origins of Earth and all living species. It also serves as a basis of biology that helps scientists learn how living organisms function and develop. Evolution also helps us understand the connections between different species. Scientists study evolution in order to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries such as new drugs.

The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains as much about the universe and the life on our planet. It has been rigorously scrutinized and confirmed for a number of years. Many people, including religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory of evolution. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology does not contradict religious beliefs because it only focuses on physical objects, events, and processes.

In reality many religious individuals have come up with ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. For instance, some Christians believe that God created the world through evolution and that humans have an ancestral lineage with other animals.

It is important for scientists to advocate for the teaching of evolution. In some countries, the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit the teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) which is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, is campaigning for the removal of textbooks about the evolution of horses and the bird ancestral Archaeopteryx.

It is important to remember that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a wide range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.

The majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief vary. Some scientists study evolution to discover practical solutions for example, such as the development of medications and other treatments, while others are driven by an interest in improving the quality of life for animals and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some are simply curious, and still others have a deep religious belief in God and want to know how the universe works.

What is Creationism?

Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. While not all creationists are Christian, they are a majority. Creationists generally fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).

YECs are the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of six days of creation was true and that the universe and life on Earth were created only recently.

OECs are less well known, but they are as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is an untruth.

Both types of creationism reject that scientific principles such as natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life came to be on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the pioneers of modern science eschewed miracles for fear of losing credibility.

Some creationists believe in naturalistic evolution and special creation and refer to their belief as "theistic evolution.” This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." In this theory, God creates the original species and then allows them to evolve over time. Then, these evolutionary changes will create new species that are similar to the original ones.


Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event called the Great Flood. They believe that all the species of the beginning were created at the same time and then slowly evolved. They reject the idea of abiogenesis and claim that self-replicating life cannot arise from non-living matter.

In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by numerous professional organizations, including the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Certain scientists and educational institutions are, however, more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be included in their curricula.

What is Creationism?

When people think of the concept of creationism most often, they think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. The publishers of high school textbooks announced last week that they would eliminate the mention of evolution in their textbooks. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. STR has secured its first victory in eliminating examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, called the Archeopteryx from textbooks. The next step is to remove the finch-research of Darwin's famed as well as on human evolution.

STR claims to have the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. The goal, according to STR is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" that paints an unflattering image for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of undergraduates studying biology found that half didn't believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear but could be due to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.

The KACR has achieved many things in the past through seminars and lectures. It publishes a bimonthly journal called Creation and the book. One of them was a textbook on natural sciences that had a creationist perspective. This led to an interest among college communities. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught until today.

On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six foreign lecturers including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin presented to thousands of people. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science in major seminaries too. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
