Buy the French B Driving License Online

If you're a non-native who is moving to France there are a few things that you should be aware of prior to driving on French roads. First, you must exchange your driver's licence.

Legality

The French driving license is a legal document issued by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion (Ministere de la transition ecologique and de la cohesion des territories - METTC). It covers all aspects of driving, from traffic laws to parking and speeding. The license is valid three years and allows drivers to drive vehicles that weigh up to 3,500 kilograms. The license also comes with demerit points which are used to punish poor drivers and reward good ones.

You must take a driving course and pass the theory exam before you can obtain your driver's license. The theory test will be performed on a computer, and you must be able to answer all questions to pass. If you fail the exam then you must wait two days before taking the test again. You are able to take the test multiple times as you like, but you need to have insurance from a third party prior to being able to drive.

If you hold a French driving license you must wear a seatbelt at all time. You should also wear a seatbelt on the back of your car when you have children who are younger than 12 years old. You should also keep your identification documents with you and adhere to the rules for roadside assistance. You should also have a first-aid kit.

Fill in your personal details and select the reason you'd like to apply for an official driving license, for example "Is an appointment for medical treatment necessary?" (Is a medical examination necessary) The French driving permit is valid for 15 years, unlike some other countries. However, it must be renewed periodically.

Fortunately, you can cut out some of the hassle and cost by getting an international driving permit when you're in the country. You can obtain an international driving permit by visiting the France Titres ANTS site and clicking "I want to apply for an International Driver's License".

Before requesting your international driving permit you must hold a French B-category license or higher. You'll also have to pass both a theory exam and a practical test. Driving lessons are costly in France with rates that range between EUR40 to EUR60 per hour. Some schools offer packages that cover an agreed amount of time.
