UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will wear out and will require replacement. When doing this it is essential that the new handles conform to the exact dimensions of the old handle.

The three measurements you need to examine are the top screw's position as well as the key hole and lever dimensions. Use the size guide to assistance with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever handle is a modern-day door handle that is designed to fit new or replacement doors. This style door handle is offered in a wide range of styles and finishes. A number of manufacturers make this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The handles made of uPVC/Composite are made from durable materials, and are ideal for doors with multiple points that require a robust design. The handles are inline and work from the same spindle and screw fixings, so they can be easily incorporated into existing or new uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be positioned and angled to fit the needs of all users. The handle has been tested to 200 000 cycles. This ensures that the finish is of high quality and performance is maintained over time. The lever that is sprung can be reduced to accommodate the widest range of locks. This is particularly useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further back in the door. A shortened lever can also be used on doors with latches that can be activated with the thumb inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc operates differently than lever handles on doors. These handle types are either operated by one spindle or two spindles, inline or offset. They are commonly employed on UPVC doors with double glazing and come in a range of finishes and variations.

The handles are available in a variety of finishes, including White chrome, and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with an outstanding performance and durability for its intended purpose.

All UPVC lever pads for handles include a spindle and screws, and can be fitted on a uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is often a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of door handles sagging from their horizontal position when not in use.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is essential to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement can also be called 'handle centre' or cylinder centres'. It is important for matching the correct handles.

Once you have decided on the correct PZ size and the correct PZ size, you must make sure that the push and lever pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are typically square or round with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads that we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position when not in use, rather than hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from getting into a house. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC lever pad handles are handed that allows you to put them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are commonly found on uPVC doors, but they can be utilized on other types of doors. They operate with a key to unlock a cylinder that then reveals pins which can be aligned to those in the lock body and allowing them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins with external and internal doors typically requiring different levels of security.

Choosing the right cylinder is crucial; it depends on how your door and handle are used. For instance, doors that are external should be fitted with a more secure cylinder while internal doors can be secured using a standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders have extra features which can enhance security even more, like anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the other end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable to measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. It is essential to ensure that there is no extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.

The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help to deflect an attack and ensure your door is secure.

There are also cylinders that are constructed to withstand snapping. This is a growing kind of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the lock is targeted using a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is much quicker and less difficult than opening multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can impede an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found in the base plate of the door handle. It offers a spring-loaded solution to help return the multipoint lock handles to their resting position after use. The handles had no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was removed. Adding upvc door handle replacement is among the best methods to correct this and it is also a great way to prevent your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in the open or closed position, as they are not always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specially made for use with multipoint locks sprung, they will not fit multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a hole specifically cut in your backplate to allow these to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as one unit. They come with a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes are a fantastic value for money way to fix the problem of your door handles that are sagging. They are simple to install and will increase the life span of your uPVC doors.
