Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

The level of an item can help players compare the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it is able to deal. The level of the item can be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

On Check This Out , you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full item description, including its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory suggests that the level of an item is determined by a formula that calculates how valuable an item's stats actually are. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.


However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, because the level of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded once, while an item that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could be used to give the item additional damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items that can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. But, like base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item level, and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs than later ones as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought at the store or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The percentage of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases this chance by five percent.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
