Types

In the heart of every kitchen, the hob is the main focus and plays a major part in how your cooking is executed. There are many kinds of hobs available, and which one you choose depends on the needs of your kitchen.

Gas hobs are the classic option and provide a quick heating process and instant reaction to temperature changes. They are a favorite choice for professional chefs as they are precise in their control. They are not as easy to clean as other hobs and may require more maintenance.

Electric hobs feature a flat ceramic surface and heated elements underneath. They can be found in a variety of sizes and come with up to six cooking zones. Each zone has its own heating element, which can be controlled separately by you. This allows you to boil potatoes on one ring whilst cooking sausages in a different. This type of hob is easier to warm up than gas, and it offers an alternative that is safer for children since the cooking area is heated only when you place the pot on it.

Traditional ceramic hobs are a user-friendly alternative to electric and gas and are also a stylish option. They are smooth and durable. surface which is easy to clean but aren't as quick to respond to temperature changes like other hobs and can be slower to cool down.

The Domino hob is a space-saving alternative to gas and electric hobs. It has ovens underneath the cooking surface. They are ideal for kitchens with limited space. They also work well in kitchenettes and flats. They are often less expensive than standard hobs, and are energy efficient, however they are also susceptible to damage and require greater maintenance.

Gas

A gas hob is a cooktop that has burners that can be installed in kitchen countertops to create a seamless look. They are usually powered by natural or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) however they can be powered by propane gas. The sleek, modern design could add sophistication to your cooking space that is modular.

A traditional gas stove has several burners, typically 4 but sometimes up to 6. The burners can be ignited with a match or knob. The flames are then controlled by a set of valves which can be adjusted to set the temperature.

The majority of modern gas stoves built-in on the other hand are equipped with burners that have multiple flames. This allows you to control both the outer and the inner rings for each burner, to allow you to precisely control your cooking. These kinds of burners offer faster heating times and are more reliable than the traditional ones.

In the past, it was essential for gas stoves to be lit at all times to ensure that the burners remained hot and well-fueled. This was done to prevent accidents, for example, not turning on the oven when the stove is still lit by a match or pilot light. Modern cookers have been built with safety as a priority. They are fitted with a device to stop the flame which shuts down the burners in the event that the pilot light is not working.

They have built-in indicators that tell you whether a particular area is hot or not.

Some models have dual-ring designs (such as the Belling BEL CH602T) that allow boiling water on one ring and sauté sausages on the other. Some models even have a 'boost' function that concentrates the power of high-powered heat into one ring to stir fry cooking sauteing meat, or boiling large pots of water.

Induction hobs are different from regular electric models because they employ electromagnetic fields to directly heat your cookware, instead of the traditional method of gas flames. This allows them to achieve precise temperatures in a shorter space of time and makes them highly energy efficient. They have a cool to the touch surface as well as flashing indicators that let you know that a ring has been used or is still hot.

Ceramic

Ceramics can be used to create functional or decorative objects. It is made by mixing clay with earthen elements, powders, and water, and then firing it in a high temperature oven known as Kiln. Once it's made it can be coated or painted with decorative materials in order to add texture and color.

Ceramic hobs are a beautiful blend of form and function that can be easily integrated into any modern kitchen. They work by using radiant heating technology that passes an electric current through coiled elements hidden beneath the black glass surface of the hob. They generate heat when activated, and this is then transferred to the pan via an infrared system. You can adjust the intensity of the heating by using the knobs or touch controls.

Some ceramic hobs come with dual ring designs, with one smaller and a larger cooking area which allows you to select the ideal size for your pan. You can also purchase hobs with boosters that generate powerful heat quickly. This is great to cook food in or bring pans to a boil quickly.

Induction

The heating elements of hobs with induction are made up of a series of copper wire coils beneath the surface that produce electromagnets to heat the pans sat on them. The coils stir up the free electrons inside the base metal of your pan, which then transfers heat evenly to your food. The surface of the stove is never hot, and the cooking zones are automatically shut off when the pan is removed.

Induction hobs are typically more expensive, however they also heat up faster and use 30 to 70% less energy than gas or other types. Induction hobs are also less difficult to clean because only the contents of the pan gets hot but not the surface.

Some manufacturers offer a special induction model that has additional features like the ability to pause, which cuts the power to your cooker when you leave it, or link up two cooking rings simultaneously at the same power level to provide additional flexibility. It comes with four large cooking zones as well as a Bridge function and nine power settings, offering you plenty of options for cooks who want to be more adventurous.
