Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Often times however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear due to their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the effectiveness of the item they are connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of the game and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components in them with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the extent of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to the highest upgrade level will increase its ability to absorb damage. However, it's important be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, causing it to be heavier than before.

There are several different types of armor upgrades available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. For example, some upgrades will give the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others make it lighter and stronger. The name of the armor upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade that an item will be given, as illustrated below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Certain upgrades require charges in order to be used. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades change every day or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method to upgrade armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, but it can be obtained from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on armor pieces that are of high-level. These upgrades can give a significant boost in stats, and are well worth the investment.

Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will greatly boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that increasing its weight can drastically decrease its agility and speed. Therefore, it is not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces beyond +9, since the defensive boost gained is usually not worth the additional weight and power costs of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms also have enhancements that enhance their intrinsic capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes the possibility of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity for greater damage) are two examples.

Most weapon upgrades require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade for applying. They can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain number of bosses and monsters.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade you need to visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific amount of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars are required to complete it. The cost of upgrades will be lower if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. In the past you could go to an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased quality. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.

It's still possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. It is better to purchase gear with low levels of upgrade but with high base scores and stat distributions. These items have a higher chance of granting you the highest tier blessings and perks.

item upgrades will want to prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to make sure they are able to level up faster. In addition, players should consider upgrading the weapons favored by their squadmates to increase their power and effective. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will increase the effectiveness of the weapon when used in conjunction with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to improve the stats of a character or to provide additional effects in armor and weapons. Jewelry crafting is a method for making them, in which you combine gemstones with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the tier of the gem has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The quality of a gem can be improved upon by the Jeweler in stages that vary from Crude to Royal. Depending on the tier of the gem, it will provide a different stat boosts when it is inserted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

The Jeweler can create the highest levels of gems with the exception of rare and legendary ones, which require an appropriate level to obtain. Jewels can be replaced with another one without damaging the original. However you can only swap out a jewel in a piece of equipment only once.

It is typical to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels also create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so the repeated friction from pivots doesn't damage them as easily.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your weapons and shields. the original source provide a small bonus and can be swapped freely but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components like traits or aegis cannot be exchanged, and can only be found through an upgrade extractor, or salvaging with the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that bestow a wide range of small but useful advantages to your hero. They are available in the starting area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained through vendors and after doing road interaction. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and then found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinket a player will unlock is the cloak. It gives a small, but useful bonus in movement speed and the ability to escape. The player can then acquire necklaces, rings, and amulets in a similar manner similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant bonuses and abilities that are active even when the character is not in combat. This lets a hero be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the lack of a good slot in the talent tree or team which are usually filled by the hero's best stats.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace soon. Next, any items with desirable statistics that aren't as important as the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats that you wish to upgrade, as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the start of the game. Top and mid players however will pick either a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

Apart from the things mentioned above, players may also discover a variety of other items in the form of awards and trophies. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or defeating a boss. You can view them by clicking on the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
