Bedside Crib and Travel Cot

Bedside cribs are a type of cot that can be attached to the side of your bed. They usually have one side that can be lowered down for easy reach and some come with an incline setting that's perfect for babies with reflux.

MFM tester Georgina said that the crib was easy to assemble and the instructions were extremely simple. It was a fast build. It also folds down into the size of a small bag and comes with a convenient bag for transport.

Easy to put together

Bedside cribs are usually easy to put together, and are usually on the smaller side so they fit neatly alongside your bed. They are also lighter, making them more portable. Georgina, who was one of MFM's home testers said that the Maxi-Cosi Lora was "super easy to put together, with clear instructions, and zips that are easy to open." This crib can also be used as a travel cot and comes with a convenient bag for when you're traveling. It comes with multiple mesh openings for ventilation, and its adjustable height allows it to fit any mattress.

Some cribs for bedside use a side panel which can be removed so that you can be able to easily reach your baby without getting out of the bed. This is an excellent option for mothers who are breastfeeding or for those who wish to remain close to their infant throughout the night but don't wish to take the risk of co-sleeping.

Many models come with a built-in rocking function. This can be a comforting experience for your baby, and can help them fall asleep. Some cribs feature a reclining position that can be helpful if your child has reflux or colic. This position is best used under supervision. You should talk to a doctor or health visitor before attempting it.

You can monitor your child from the peace of your bed by using the bedside crib. It's a great choice for moms who are recovering from a C-section since it is easy to lift your child towards you to feed them at night or change their nappies with no need to get out of bed. And the most cozy cribs come with mesh sides that you can see your newborn through.

Georgina who took part in the MFM test was in a position to put it together quickly, without requiring any instructions. It's also a great travel cot that folds flat before slipping into a handy bag.

The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards, is also on the larger side but is still relatively small and easy to put to your bed. Georgina found it straightforward to put together, though she did feel the zips could have been better described on the instruction sheet.

Easy to clean

If you're considering travel cots and bedside cribs, look for ones that have a mattress cover that is removable that is machine-washable. This will help keep it clean from spills, nappies, baby sick and drips. You should also select one that is easily disassembled so you can clean and disinfect all the nooks.

Some cribs can be transformed into an oversized travel cot. Other cribs come with additional features such as tilting, rocking, or converting into a larger baby cot.
