How Much Does an EU Driving License Cost?


Everyone wants a driving license that will never expire. However, the reality is very different.

To get the Polish driving license requires many steps. The most important are: medical exam as well as theory and practical classes. You must also meet the requirements for age of the category for which you are applying for a driver's license.

1. Medical exam

The first thing to be completed to obtain your driving license is to get the approval of a doctor (orzeczenie lekarskie) that you are able to drive. If however, you're from a country which isn't part of any of these groups, then you'll need to take a medical exam as well as a theoretical and practical driving test in order to be able to obtain an official Polish licence.

It is possible to pass both of these exams in English. However, it depends on the center. It is recommended to call ahead and verify availability prior to making an appointment. You'll also need to book a translator if your level of Polish is not high enough to pass the test.

After you've received your medical certificate, you need to go to the district authorities and have a driver's profile filled in (PKK - Profil Kandydata na Kierowce). You'll need a scanned copy of your passport as well as evidence of your residence in Poland as well as a color photo.

Then, you visit an office that is specially designed to make your personal file, scan your documents and give them to you. From there, you can start preparing for the test and enroll at a driving academy. WORD is readily available in all major cities, and even in smaller ones. However some schools require a fee for their courses.

2. Theory test

If you have an international driving permit valid in Poland provided you have an International Driving Permit ("IDP"). You'll need an IDP for any car that you drive in Poland for more than six months. It is mandatory to exchange the IDP in exchange for the Polish licence if you do not have one. The process requires that you meet four criteria that include: you must be a Polish resident, you must have passed medical exams, you must pass the state-issued driving test and complete driving lessons at an approved by the government.

The practical part of the driving test involves driving a vehicle on a public roadway under supervised supervision. Before you can pass your state driving test, you must apply for a PKK at the Province Road Traffic Centers. 3. Practical test

If you're driving on a foreign licence you'll also need to pass a practical test. This is a much harder test than the one for theory and the success rate is quite low. You are only able to take the practical test in the event that you are legally living in Poland. If not, your driving licence will be indefinite. You may also be fined if are stopped by police for driving without a valid driving licence.

You will need to present an ID photo, proof of your health care coverage, and a recent photo in colour (size 3,5 cm x 4,5 cm). It can be a long and complicated process, especially if your language abilities aren't up to par. It's best to hire an instructor who speaks English and book your lessons in advance. There are also driving schools that provide English lessons in specific regions.

The office will require proof of payment both for the theory and practical test. The total cost for the entire process is approximately 1500 PLN. There is the option of paying in cash, however, this does not guarantee a quicker processing of the documents. The entire process can take between two and four weeks. In some areas it can take longer. Contact your local office if you are unsure of the deadlines.

4. Documents

It is important for foreigners who want to drive in Poland to get a Polish driving license to avoid issues with their insurance for their car. First, they must prove that they've lived in Poland for at least six months. After the driving licence is completed and issued, you will need to pay an office fee. This fee is 100 PLN to EU citizens and 250 PLN for non-EU citizens. The fee is payable via bank transfer, debit card, or credit card. The applicant will receive their driver's license at their residence address. If the driving license is not issued for any reason, the City Mayor can appeal to the Local Government Appeals Board of Rzeszow.
