Category A1 Rules For Motorcyclists Category A1 rules are for those who want to ride small motorcycles. These motorcycles have cylinder capacity of up to 35kW. They are not derived directly from vehicles with more than double their power. Open category drone operations are separated into three subcategories, namely A1 to A3. You can fly drones that have class label C0 or C1 in the A1 subcategory (fly over people) until January 2024. A1 Category A1 is one of the three EASA drone categories. It is applicable to aircrafts with a maximum take-off weight (MTOM) of up to 25 kilograms. It requires a record of flight and a flight plan, an identification system for remote use and a geoawareness. The drone must remain in the sight of the pilot. It is not permitted to fly over groups of people or in areas used for commercial, industrial or recreation reasons. The drone must remain below 120 meters. If you wish to fly a drone that is not included in the categories above, you'll require a special licence from the Civil Aviation Authority. This is referred to as an operational authorization. You can get more details about how to apply for this here. Candidates for a category A1 licence must have at minimum 16 years of experience on two-wheeled motor vehicles. They must also have completed the mandatory basic training and pass both a theory as well as a practical test. Moreover, they must possess an official medical certificate. A1 license holders are able to drive mopeds that have a cylinder capacity of no more than 1250cc, and a power-to-weight ratio that is not greater than 0.01 kW/kg. They can also ride motorcycles with a maximum cylinder capacity of 125 cc as well as trikes or quad bikes, as well as quad-bikes. The category A1 driving licence is designed to give easier access to the next category, which permits licence holders to drive vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of up 35 kW. You can also fly in the A2 sub-category using drones with a mass of up to 4kg, but you must keep them at a safe distance from people when taking off and landing. The drones should be at least 30m away from people when in low-speed mode or 5m if they are not in use. To fly in this category, you must also pass the A2 Certificate of Competence exam (A2 CofC). If you wish to fly larger drones you will need to apply for a specific category operator's permit that requires you to complete the General VLOS Certificate (GVC) training and flight assessment, as well as the preparation of an Operations Manual. You'll only be able to fly these drones in A2 until the 2022 deadline, after which they'll be required to comply with A3 regulations. The A1 and A2 categories are designed to help you become a safe and confident motorcyclist. The number of lessons needed depends on your level of capability and the progress you are making in your learning, but you must complete a specific amount of special rides. This is a minimum of five lessons on country road and four on highways and three at dawn or in darkness. A3 This category permits drones with a a maximum takeoff mass of 25 kg. While it is a lower risk operation, strict measures must be taken to minimize the risk of accidents. A distance of 150 metres is required between drones and residential, commercial industrial, recreational, and residential areas. This also means that drones must to be equipped with an identification system for remotes and Geoawareness System. This tier is further divided into sub-categories, A1, A2 or A3. The A1 subcategory allows drones with Class Identification Label C0 or C1 to fly over people who aren't involved. It requires the requirement of a minimum distance of 30m from other drones when flying at flight altitude, or 5 meters in slow flight mode. Drones with the Class Identification Label C2 may be operated under subcategory A2 if they meet the size requirements and the remote pilot has passed an additional knowledge test. This exam is designed to assess the remote pilot's knowledge of the operational and technical mitigations to mitigate the risks of flying larger drones (class C2, less than 4kg mass) close to people. The certificate of ability to fly Category A2 is given after successful completion of this test. Due to the limited availability of certified drones in this category There are 'transitional' arrangements that permit non-certified 'legacy' drones to be operated in the categories A1 and A2 for two years following the new EU regulations take effect. Legacy drones are not permitted to be deliberately flown overhead of people and must be operated using an A2 CofC. To operate a drone under this category, you need to first complete the online flyer identification test and then complete a theory test. Additionally, you must declare that you have gained some practical knowledge of your drone, and submit an official declaration of competency. These requirements are similar to the driving licence model whereby the person who is first granted a licence for a less powerful vehicle category will be able to gain access to an upgrade to a higher category. A4 The DOH is currently working on specific guidelines to be used in category A4. These will be in line with the other operations and will also include specifics such as the number of dressing changes each day. These guidelines will be presented to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infections, (IATF-EID) and the DOH National Immunization Technical Advisory Group. The IATF-EID and the DOH-National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization will be reviewing and approving the guidelines prior to being finalized. Drones with the class identification label C0 or C1 may fly within 50 metres of people who are not involved in the incident. This is a low-risk subcategory, however, strict precautions should be taken to mitigate incidents. Drones that aren't classified in either A1 or A2 must have passed an additional test of knowledge in order to be operated in this subcategory. This test is designed to assess the level of knowledge about the dangers associated with flying drones close to people. A successful passing of the test earns an official certificate of competence for this subcategory. The pilot must maintain a minimum of 30 metres between the aircraft and any other persons not involved or 5 metres when flying in slow-flight mode. You have to complete an amount of lessons to pass the theory test and then you must pass the practical test. The amount you need to complete depends on your age, abilities and learning speed. But, at least 12 lessons of 90 minutes should be completed. During these lessons you will learn about your vehicle and traffic laws. Additionally, you will receive tips regarding how to drive in difficult situations. In addition to the required lessons, you must attend specific number of special rides. The new category E combines the classes A1 (retail), A2 (financial services and professional services), B1 (offices) A4 (restaurants/cafes), and B5 and A5 for takeaway hot food. This category also includes health/medical purposes, creches, nursery schools, and indoor recreation facilities and sports facilities. The new licensing system is expected to simplify and cut costs. The landlords will be able to utilize their properties in ways they are not currently allowed.
