What are people saying about 1st Clock

Michael R Being a last-minute EBay bidder I often loose track about important items, which are lost, when time is over... When watching your nice screenshots I was thinking, it would be nice after entering the important data to be able to see a list of, e.g. the last 3 soonest end-dates as countdown. So e.g. with once glance you can see that the next article is this book xy and there are only 1:30 time to bid... Is something like this countdown-feature already possible (or about to come in the next future)?

Can I install 1st clock on all my computers with one user-license?

Alan Carr Please check your rejected orders on Shareit (you may be amazed how many you have, which is why I quit using them for my own software) for REF# 306664225.

If you email me an address I can use for PP I'll pay directly, as my order has been 'delayed', which is Shareit's way of saying "We don't want your money'. I'm guessing you probably do?

Green Parrots Software Support Michael:

Currently there is no countdown feature in 1st Clock, however you can track a list of all the alarms you set using the Alarm list window (which you can show using Show alarm list... command in the clock's menu).

In this list, alarms (by default) are sorted on a date/time when they will run. So you can set alarms on time when you need to place a last minute bid and then they all will be sorted in the order of their expiration and you can easily track which bids are going to expire and when!

S B This is a *wonderful* product. I'm very happy I got it. I purchased the "family" license the last time BDJ offered it (Thanks, BDJ!). It's worth it just to have the time and date all shown together very compactly in the lower left of the system tray--with SECONDS and the DAY, month, and DATE. (All very customizable) I also really like the very convenient (just double click) two-pane calendar. It's complete with the little touches that make it much more useful. I also use its internet time-server synchronization. It also has convenient alarms, phase-of-the-moon (pass over any date and see the phase for that day), difference in days between dates as you click on the calendar, reminders, etc. Though I have lots of screen real estate, this app is *very* considerate and though very readable, it is *very* compact. *Really* nice!

Glen Hilton Purchased this app last year on BDJ and have been impressed since installation. No problems at all, low memory use, plenty of customization and a very useful and unobtrusive memory and CPU bar which can be optionally incorporated into the clock display. Alarm functions are easy to use and  work well. Recommended.

Frank Stephens Not to take anything away from this utility, which clearly has numerous features which Windows doesn't, but I just wanted to point out that some of the features which people have mentioned are already built into most recent versions of Windows.  XP and higher already do Internet time-server synchronization.  None of these types of utilities do true time-server synchronization, for that you need a true NTP client (there's only one for Windows), but I won't go into that since it's overkill for most people.  My taskbar is auto-hidden anyway, so I would have to bring it up to see a taskbar clock.  Vista already shows the day/date, local time, and up to two other time zones when you point at the taskbar clock.  If you click it, you get that information plus analog clocks, local time to the second, and an interactive calendar.  Then, there's the Vista Sidebar, with standard clocks and calendars available without searching for others, which you can also do.  Again, 1st Clock does more, but Windows already covers the basics.

Green Parrots Software Support 1st Clock provides very nice SNTP sync, with up to 1/50 sec precision. And it is actually much more reliable and configurable, then built-in Windows sync. Of course if your taskbar is auto-hidden, you can't get 1st Clock best features - all of the required date/time information, in any format for several time zones, without requiring any action, mouse movement or clicks - always visible!

Frank Stephens William Gurvitz, I'm not going to get into the complexities of Internet time protocols, but as you say, Windows and almost all utilities are using SNTP, and you can't claim any kind of precision with SNTP, only NTP can manage that, but most users shouldn't be running a true NTP client since it requires knowledgeable configuration to function properly and to avoid adversely impacting the NTP network, and of course it helps if some people run public NTP servers to share the load, but Windows doesn't have adequate real-time response for that.

gpc 111 This looks like a nice clock replacement. It may not have the accuracy of NTP as explained above. But who cares if it's a few micro seconds off. The rest of the feature more than make up for that.

Frank Stephens Scott Carney, while you're waiting for weather to be added, you might take a look at a previous offering here, http://yowindow.com/ . It only displays temperature in the tray, but pointing at the icon displays current conditions, and clicking it displays a visual representation of the weather at the current or future time/date. It's very, very clever, there's a lot more to it than first appears, as well as some "Easter Eggs", see their forum. Free and commercial versions are available. It's low overhead, but doesn't give alerts or display radar.

MK Been using version 4 for years - best clock application as far as I'm concerned.
In the version 5 trial I noticed that the week number in the pop-up calendar (22nd Aug 2012 shows week 35) is different from the week number shown in the system tray (using the ww formatting) which shows week 34 (which is correct).
Will the pop-up calendar be corrected?

Peter C1 Q1. If Windows Explorer.exe crashes, does the "1st Clock" display disappear from the tray or desktop? requiring the program to be closed and opened again (or re-started if you have a task manager which has such a function)?

Q2. As it appears - according to the POLiCY box details, that the single or family licenses are only for the current available version (and not lifetime of program): will purchases bought today be entitled to a free upgrade to 1st Clock v6 whenever you have this planned for (perhaps once Windows 8 has been released)

Q3. I see that existing version 4 License owners are entitled to a 50% discount to buy version 5: Is it your intention to keep this 50% discount for ALL future upgrades?

Q4. Can "1st Clock" synchronize with multiple time servers and adjust the time for the latency (usually in milli-seconds) in a single time update or server synchronization process?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

For reference to my second question:
May I refer You to Softshape dot com's Chameleon Clock v5.1 which allows the user to synchronize with up to 10 NIST Time Servers, and adjust for latency of each time server, in a single click (a single Atomic Clock time update/synchronization process).

Note: Chameleon Clock v5.1 has the odd bug or two, and will not be updated and it was written using Delphi and the owner said they would only update it when Delphi 64bit became available (which has never happened), so I'm looking for a clock that has a similar time synchronization [www.softshape.com/softwar...omicclock/] process but works with both Winows 32 & 64 bit Op Sys's since XP's first release.

Hopefully O.A.T.S. functioning included too [www.softshape.com/softwar...index.html])

Green Parrots Software Support Peter:

Re Q1. If Windows Explorer.exe crashes, does the "1st Clock" display disappear from the tray or desktop?

When Explorer crashes, 1st Clock will "jump out" of the tray area (1st Clock can work as a desktop clock) and once Explorer reloads, it will "jump" back in. You do not need to reload anything.

Re Q2. As it appears - according to the POLiCY box details, that the single or family licenses are only for the current available version (and not lifetime of program):

Our current policy is free upgrades for a year. So if we will produce an updated version for Win 8, you will get it. However 1st Clock 5 already works nicely in Windows 8 RTM desktop.

Re Q3. I see that existing version 4 License owners are entitled to a 50% discount to buy version 5: Is it your intention to keep this 50% discount for ALL future upgrades?

Our current policy is 50% discount for users of previous versions of our software. Also we offer 30% discount for users of our other products, and therefore if you buy 1st Clock, you can get for example our information organizer ActionOutline with 30% discount.

Re Q4. Can "1st Clock" synchronize with multiple time servers and adjust the time for the latency (usually in milli-seconds) in a single time update or server synchronization process?

Yes you can pick up as much time servers as you want and let 1st Clock to find the average/skip unreachable on every sync. And 1st Clock allows you to run speed test against all time servers in its pre-built list and pick ones that are better accessible from your location. And you can add your own if you need.

Of course 1st Clock supports just SNTP (or Daytime), not NTP, but anyway you can keep your clock very precise automatically. And you can make 1st Clock to work as a local time server etc.

Re pricing - http://www.1stclock.com/ is an entry point for both 1st Clock and 1st Clock Classic, that's why it states prices starting from $19.99. Actual full pricing available from our web site are $19.99 for Classic and $29.99 for Pro.

Also there are Single and Family licenses, you will see them on the web site once you click Buy Now.

Software Guy Couple of quick questions which I could not find answers online: Is the application portable? IMHO reminder programs should be portable.
Next, does the program require administrator rights to install? Again, IMHO, many people work where they do not have administrator rights but can benefit from the software at work, popping up critical reminders when they need them most.

Ralph Bressler So, the version we are buying for $14.99 is the Pro version with all the reminders and synchronization. Is that correct? I assume so since you said the full price for Pro is $29.99 and half of that is the $14.99m price listed here. Please confirm.

Green Parrots Software Support Ralph:

Yes, this offer is for the Pro version with all the bells and whistles - reminders, atomic time, multiple time zones etc - at $14.99 for a single license or $19.99 for a whole family!

Software guy:

Re portability - 1st Clock can run off the memory stick, however it stores alarms/reminders on a computer and you should use Backup/restore feature to transfer them between computers.

Re Admin rights - yes they are required for installation.

Is 1st Clock ISO 8601 compliant (week - and so numbering - starts with a Monday)?
It's embarrassing quoting week numbers on projects with people, and then finding you are a week out and have to reschedule.

Frank Stephens William Gurvitz, few people care about precise time, but I require it. I do have a thing about vendors claiming that they have some super-precise way of setting the time, and especially when they offer their own time servers. No offense, but that shows a serious lack of understanding of Internet time. Checking multiple SNTP sources and using your own algorithms doesn't cut it. Anyone needing accurate time will be running a true NTP client (or server for the rest of their local network). You can perform you own research, there's tons of information. True NTP clients are extraordinarily complex. They regularly check with multiple NTP servers, but get them from dynamic NTP pools and use exponentially larger check durations to minimize the impact on the servers. Extraordinarily complex algorithms are used to take into account the drift of the local clock, differences among reported times, and latency and jitter throughout the entire paths along the Internet and network connections. True NTP clients/servers almost never set the clock, that would introduce jitter. They adjust the clock frequency, continually. So, yeah, I get irritated with all of the claims of super-accurate time setting.

Green Parrots Software Support MK - You can display a week number in the clock display itself, this week number should be ISO compliant. However for the calendar we use Windows Calendar and it uses its own (probably locale-related) week numbering.

Frank - we do not claim the highest precision of NTP algorithms, we use SNTP. But for most uses, periodically getting the average from several SNTP time servers around, makes your clock quite precise.

Ralph Bressler Right now the week number is wrong according to the ISO 8601 standard. As stated by MK, weeks start on Monday. Will this be corrected?

Green Parrots Software Support Ralph:

If you turn on week number display in the clock itself (by going into the advanced format section and picking week number elements w or ww) you will see clock displaying week 34 according to ISO.

Unfortunately Windows calendar, that we use in 1st Clock, does not follow ISO standard and it displays week numbers differently.

Ralph Bressler I read your post before and I believe the week number is wrong in both places. I am in the eastern USA and I am looking at a display on Sunday that says week 35 when it should be 34. Weeks starts on Monday.

Rocky Phelps I have been using 1st Clock for many years. It is one of my most used and most useful apps. I don't know how I could get along without it.

I tend to be forgetful, and set reminders many times a day. It is so easy to set a reminder, and it really makes me look smart!!

Tortuga Hello William Gurvitz :)
I'm trying to buy your app!

Even though we made the payment, I still have «not» received any confirmation, either from PayPal, the processing company or from Green Parrots
I'll wait a bit longer before I start the panic attack ... ;)
Just wanted to let you know, before the cut off time, what's going on
Peace

Just rcvd (~25mn ago) the invoice from Shareit, confirming payment
But, still NOT rcvd any Registration details

OTOH, after investigating your app further, realized last updated was 2009!! That's 3+ years ago!! Before that, it was 2007
So, this app is updated every ±2-3years ??!! :(
Is this abandonware, or do you have any plans to continue development?

Rajeev Rohatgi I purchased this program last month, and ran into problems regarding the way it works.

Their customer service is almost nonexistent -- I had to write twice -- once directly by email, and once through their website -- about a problem (which still remains unresolved) before they even bothered to respond. Their response just repeated the points in my email (basically, just a confirmation of my issues -- not a resolution to the problem).

Which is fine -- however, since then, I've written to them at least FOUR times (both directly by email, as well as through the contact form on their website); not a single response has been forthcoming.

Bill Blackledge Hi, just tried the demo, looks to be very useful. Two questions:
1) Is it licensed per PC or per User (ie could i install it on a desktop and laptop?)
2) for the Tooltip display, the | 'Line return' character does not function - can this be enabled as for the main clock display? Looking forward to taking up the offer - thanks.

1) Single license is per-user, you can install it on your desktop and laptop.

2) Yes, multiple lines are not supported in the tooltip. One possible workaround is to add another time zone to the tooltip display and set it to the same local time. The time zone time in the tooltip is displayed with its own custom format.

Bill Blackledge Thanks, I have just purchased 4 licences for our office. I'll try the work-around, but a better work-around for the tooltip would be to implement the same Line break option as for the clock!

franp User Hi,

- Does it support time format like YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM ?
- I understand it replaces the integrated Windows taskbar time. When teh taskbar is not horizontal at the bootom of the screen, but more conveniently vertical on the left, the Windows 10 integrated clock takes three lines, which is way too much. The other clock softwares I tested are alos taking the same vertical space equivalent to three lines. I don't knoiw if this is a retriction of the OS, but I am looking for a clock that would replace the integrated clock AND not take more than one line when the taskbar is vertical. Is that the case of 1st clock ?
- ANy plan to intagrate whith, say, google calendar ?

MK The 1st Clock ($14.99) IS the Pro version (I bought it this morning and the program shows it is the Pro).

From the License:

a.1) Personally by a single person, who uses the software on one or more computers.
a.2) Installed on a single workstation used non-simultaneously by multiple people.
...
e)If you purchase a FAMILY LICENSE, then a copy of this product may be used by one and only one of the following ways:
e.1) Personally by any number of members of purchaser's family on one or more computers.
e.2) Installed and used on any number of computers of purchaser's family.

Green Parrots Software Support Promotion is for the Pro version that is correct. There is a Single and a Family licenses, where the Family one allows all your family members to use the software.

The user interface is in English, but the date/time display will correctly support your systems language, including French.

In addition to quick settings, you can freely customize a format string for the clock. Please download a free trial and play around with its live preview of the changes.

When 1st Clock is running in a vertical task bar you can change its format to show the number of lines you need. Also you can change the font of the clock to make it smaller or bigger. As the last resort there is a height setting to fix the clock size to a certain value.

If you purchased 1st Clock in the past, please contact us directly with your original order details.

Mark Byrd I've been using 1st clock since Version 4.0. It is absolutely one of my most indispensable applications. Setting alarms is so easy and makes it extremely unlikely that items will fall through the cracks. Why open or keep open a resource hog like Outlook just to see or enter simple reminders/alarms. Wouldn't want to use a computer without this program.

I just emailed them to try and see if they can find my order from several years ago to upgrade to 5.1.

_*_ Purchased a license.
Have one request/suggestion as a new user.

Allow for Reminders to have a limited duration.

E.g. Every Monday at 6:00 PM for 5 Weeks.

The program handles everything but the limiting factor of 5 weeks and then stop the reminder.

This would be greatly beneficial.

Thank you
