What are people saying about A1 Website Search Engine 12.x

Thomas Schulz Here's an example (notice all pages also have a search box upper right corner)
http://www.microsystools....+generator
(You can try to make searches with scoring calculations shown if curious)

Before scan of website I had adjusted settings to:
"On-page keyword analysis | Site analysis : Result ranges" to max 50
"On-page keyword analysis | Site analysis : Max words in phrases" to 2

Before creating the search engne files I had chosen setting:
"Search engine builder |general options | kind of search engine" to: "Deferred load (Javascript + PHP)"

Whenever I need to update my site search - I just upload the generated data files.

For a guide covering most uses see:

Charles Beauchamp Have an 11 Gigabyte web site downloaded to USB stick. Can A1 Website Search Engine be used to index this downloaded website and then run the search engine off the USB stick?

If so do you have a price for generating multiple USB copies?

Thomas Schulz @Charles

If all 11 gigabyte is textual content then no - otherwise maybe. Depends on settings since search index quality (and thus size) depends on options set.

But yes, A1 Website Search Engine pure JavaScript search engine (which is one of the options available) can be used on offline websites on USB sticks.

A1 during scan precalculates many different kinds of data - for example textual content and link anchor text for words and phrases (including variations) for all pages - thus the Javascript data files are quite efficient which is a different system than other tools creating Javascript search engines I have seen.

The exact limits will depend on a lot of things. The BDJ discount is usually extended a couple days - I suggest you try the trial and maybe run. As a general rule, I am always happy to hear and help about "extreme" use cases since those drive product development.

Bart User Dear sir mam

Can your program also search inside pdf files that are located
on a website for text inside the PDF files?

Thomas Schulz You can point A1WSE to a PDF to text module so A1WSE can search the text:

HJ B 1. Can you tell us what the specifications and limits of Search engine 10.x are?
2. Does it index all pages of a website? Can certain pages or files be excluded?
3. What kinds of files cannot be indexed?
4. Will the program index the names of files that are not otherwise readable (e.g. graphics or encrypted)
5. As material is removed from or added to a website, is the index automatically adjusted?
6. Is the index, itself, viewable or downloadable by visitors to the website or by the website owner?
7. Is there any action (good or bad) between this program and website security programs?
8. I find the fine print to be a bit confusing. I had been assuming that the program would be uploaded to the website to do its thing. The fine print says that:
"Each license allows installation on all owned computers, but A1 Website Search Engine 10.x may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them.
"Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed".

9. Can this program be used on multiple websites I own, without additional charge?

Thomas Schulz 1) See product page: http://www.microsystools....ch-engine/ - it includes a section "Easy Steps and You Have a Working Site Search Solution" that explains what you ask (specifications/limts)

2) Yes. And Yes. If you are interested see http://www.microsystools....r-filters/ and http://www.microsystools....t-filters/

3) Binary game data files among other :) Kidding aside, web pages and through some configuration PDF and Flash as well. If you need support for something not currently supported drop me an email.

4) Yes, if you include image file types in output they will be included in search index as well

5)
No but you can automate A1WSE to crawl, generate search engine files and upload: http://www.microsystools....ch-engine/

6) Depends on the search index type you choose to create (e.g. JavaScript or PHP/JavaScript.)

7) Do you mean if the website tries to prevent crawling? See this http://www.microsystools....-platform/ section "General Solutions for Crawling Problematic Websites" - that will get by most of such problems.

8) This is a limitation of the options available in BDJ. The actual license is less restrictive. Do notice though that A1WSE program *different* from the files generated with the program - i.e. the license term you quote on BDJ does not reflect on the search engine files you create with A1WSE. (So no, you do not upload the actual program itself to the webserver, but files created and/or shipped with it) See this help page for more information concerning licensing: http://www.microsystools....m-license/

9) Yes

Jeff User Hi! Does the Search Engine support boolean operators, proximity search and/or fuzzy search? If not, are these features on your roadmap? Thanks!

Thomas Schulz boolean operators = no (I can probably add if interest, just always figured most people do not used them in everyday standard searches)

fuzzy search = word variations and singular/plural yes (if index made large enough)

proximity search = Title, headers etc. weight more. Anchor backlink text matters. Internal linking amount weighs... If you e.g. search two word sentence indexes are checked for both two-word index and then also both words checked individually in one-word index.

Jeff User Thanks for your reply!
I need a search engine to make large document archives (10.000+ files) searchable via a website. It would be ideal if the search engine had proximity search as well as boolean operators (keyword#1 and keyword#2 within a specified distance, e.g. x number of words, say 5 words between keyword#1 and keyword#2).
It would be great if I could define additional "data fields" that can be searched specifically. For example, not only title, heading, etc. but also year, author, etc. (combined with boolean operators and proximity search). Also, it would be great to be able to define the "fuzziness" of search terms, e.g. the amount of characters in a search string that do not match exactly.
In this way, spelling errors could be compensated to a certain degree.

Your software already has good basic functions, I especially like the ease of use.
Maybe you could take a look at DocuDig: https://github.com/yourcelf/docudig
Ideal would be the combination of ease of use of your software with the functionality of DocuDig.
