Jeanie Kiser Hello. I installed Advanced Recent Access today and it does show recently accessed files fairly quickly. It takes a little longer for it to show external drive's file access, but I still really enjoy this feature.

My question is, some of the files are showing that I accessed them 3 days ago or more, when I actually accessed them today. What is causing the date discrepancy?

One file shows I accessed it on 8/27/2015, when I actually looked at it today. I did not have it opened, prior to viewing it today... So why?

There is another file showing I accessed it on 9/3/2015, although I opened it today??

I find this a very useful tool, but would like to see that the date accessed be correctly shown. Are you able to provide some guidance?

I have Win7 Ultimate 64-bit

Thank you for any help you can provide.

LU Does Advanced Recent Access index the files, so next time it is ran, the access will even be faster?

TSS Support @Jeanie Kiser

Thanks for your testimonial.

About the "Date accessed" column:

It just is a file property that given by Windows system.

And ARA does not change it, just use the system given date.

Hope this helps.

TSS Support @Lifetime Upgrades

ARA does not index the "files".

It just gives you more recent resources, and more information.

Because the recent resources are always not many, so ARA can load them quickly.

In advanced, it will refresh the list per minute, in order to keep the list is up-to-date.

John User I have noticed that the File Explorer in Windows 10 automatically shows recent files accessed when you open it. Some (including me) may prefer to select a different Windows file management system, but if you want recent file activity shown, you can simply go with Win 10 File Explorer.

In fact, in any version of Windows, you can see this in the Windows/File Explorer.

But as ARA said: you can see more recent resources, and more properties (information) for the recent items.

Rodney A. This does absolutely NOTHING that can't be done by going to "Recent Items" on the Windows Start menu, right clicking, and choosing "Open." It's slightly more convenient to filter files, but that's about it. I can't believe you actually charge $20 for this regularly. Way to take advantage of inexperienced computer users.

Sorry, I cannot find out "Recent Items" on Win7.
And on Win10, the "recent items" folder only displays a few items, and they are shortcut, to know their details, you need to right-click them, and open location, and right-click the real file again, and select "properties".

Sorry.

This problem cannot reappear still.

I just open a .txt file (not listed in ARA) by EditPlus, edited and saved it.

At the next refreshing, it is listed in ARA (sort list by [Type] can quickly find it, just click the related column header).

Rodney A. Qiulin:

Well, you do have to enable that on the Start Menu:

Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Personalization, and then click Taskbar and Start Menu.

Click the Start Menu tab. Under Privacy, select the "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar" check box, if it isn't already selected.

Click Customize. In the Customize Start Menu dialog box, scroll through the list of options to find the Recent Items check box, select it, click OK, and then click OK again. (To remove Recent Items from the Start menu, clear the Recent Items check box, click OK, and then click OK again.)

Or you can just go here:

C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent

Remember to put your actual username in there....

Yes. I know this action and this folder.

For ARA, the functions just like its name ADVANCED Recent Access.

1. List all (Start menu list a little".
2. List REAL file/folder, so you can view its each properties at once, such as size, type, etc.
3. Start Menu only lists name, the Recent folder only list shortcut (not real file), if there are some similar names, you cannot quickly decide which one should be used.
4. If you usually use ARA to operate the frequent use resources, they will automatically sort by the frequency, so it can improve your work efficiency.
5. Other features please refer to its official site.

-- In fact, "ADVANCED" is based on the "Recent Items" menu item, and the "Recent" folder. It presumes users already use these, and need more.

Frank User Nice. Win 10 x64 Pro. Initial start is a fast display of lots of recent files. Can customize that output as to types. Seems set to auto-run for next boot up.
Will try it for a few days but does seem productivity helper if one does a wide variety of work over various of folders. Put in on D drive, seems ok there.
A year's worth of updates (this Ver 1.0).
Has a file manager look to it so I know I'll be all over it since in/out of tablet mode & desktop as well as wide range of diff apps daily.
Fast serial reply. Worth a shot.

Robert Bull I was planning to buy a single-PC lifetime license, but I read the Fine Print. License per computer, not per user; transfer of license to another computer you own yourself is not allowed; license has a hardware footprint. That seems to make a mockery of a lifetime license, so I won't be buying until this is either changed, or at least clarified in case it only applies to the Bits/Facebook free deal rather than the paid-for version.

Manu dRB Trisun software has a LONG run of software PROBLEMS and usually masquerade common task actions as unique for them to market their software and charge high prices for functions that normally windows can do, that is call CHEATING and taking advantage of less knowledgeable people to rob them off.
One piece of advice, go to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and check their reputation.

Jeanie Kiser Have had this on my computer for most of the day. Thought that it would continue to keep a memory of recently accessed files, once erased from my system, but it doesn't. I protected the folder and the program. Ran ccleaner to clean my system files (which I have to do or my computer gets bogged down quite rapidly). When Windows no longer shows the recently accessed files, neither does this program.

If it retained some type of memory, it would be a more useful program.

I really did like the ease of use, but if it doesn't retain any memory of even the most recent 10 or 20 files used... I'm not sure exactly how helpful it's really going to be??

Anyone else think that this would be a useful feature to have?

Chris My problem is the same as above. The program window stays empty.
I contacted them and they want to do a remote session to try and fix it, but according to the program, that is a fee-based option. I purchased this because I have other of their programs and they all work. I didn't even try the trial, just purchased it as I had Recent X and when they updated the program it get to heavy on my system and crashed all the time. I did enable the recent items, but that didn't help. I hope they figure this out and get an update out to fix the problem. I have Windows 8.1 64 bit.

It just started working, I have no idea what I did to get it to work, but it seems fine right now.

In the Recent Items, folder, you can right-click on any of the files and open the file location, view file properties, etc., etc. All for free.

TSS Support @Rodney A. OK, let us do a experiment (Win 7): To see the size of a file in "recent items". 1. Press . 2. Move mouse to "Recent Items". 3. Right-click a shortcut. 4. Click "Properties". 5. Click "Open File Location". To see the size of a folder in "recent" folder. 1. Press . 2. Click user name (under Desktop) at the left tree. 3. Double click "recent" to the right list. 4. Right-click a shortcut of a folder. 5. Click "Properties". 6. Click "Open File Location". 7. Right-click the actual folder (if it is a big folder, you will wait for Windows calculate the size). This is just to see the size property for one file/folder. What about 100+ resources? Do 700+ steps? How do you find out a the BAD shortcuts? Double-click 100+ times? How do you finished it within 1 second? With ARA, there is ZERO step needed. Started automatically, automatically refresh the recent used resources, automatically delete the no-existing resources. I think we do not need to talking about WHY NEED IT again. I said that you or many other people may do not need it, but there are still some people need it.

Had a glitch with Windows 7 as the checkbox for 'Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar' was not checked in Windows itself.
Support staff were extremely prompt and helpful in tracking this down even though it wasn't actually a problem with their program at all! - To me that says a lot! Will now be looking at their other software too.

Please refer to its homepage ("The Most Important Thing!" segment) to know more detail.

This is a manual fixing solution, and we will upgrade ARA to version 2.0 to let it to be compatible this automatically.

Bruno User Two things: People in the "older comments" say ARA is useless; this is simply not true since Windows will only show you the .lnk files, and even if your file commander lets you filter by extension, since all file types are .lnk files, you will always get all files, most of them unwanted, so ARA, with its original file entries, together with their original suffixes, and which can be filtered by groups, is a big step forward.

What I miss though is a filter by path. I would need to see all recent files (of all types) in some specific path and its subpaths, and no file from other paths. But again, if you don't have this specific need of mine, this should be a very useful program, even though it does not filter files by specific suffixes but only by file type groups which may include unwanted file types in some cases.

FYI: I just researched how to toggle "put the opened file into the recent file history" yes/no. You can do this by a registry setting, albeit the problem is you then have to restart the pc to switch the toggle, so this cannot be used to hold back unwanted entries from the list, when working on not-work-related things for example. Therefore, if ARA could check for the path / parent path, alternatively to checking for the suffix, when deciding if a file is to be included into the list or not, this would be tremendously helpful.

ricoh flex Had installed this before but uninstalled it because of an unacceptable defect.
It forces itself to boot on Windows startup.
The user has NO choice.
The program does not have any built-in control feature to stop this.
You can try to switch this off using a 3rd party utility like Wise 365 Care Pro.
However the software overrides this and the next time you boot Windows, this software Advanced Recent Access, loads itself.
Mar 9 2016 at 2:16am Copy Link

TSS Support @ricoh flex

Let me explain this:

1. Very easy to stop the autostart:
The installer just puts a shortcut under "Start -> All Programs -> Startup" system menu, if you do not want to autostart it, simply delete this shortcut.

2. The original design is: users who need it will usually use it during Windows is running. So, the installer makes the shortcut as above by default.

This is just like our another proudct - Auto Mail Sender™ Standard Edition
http://www.automailsender...dition.htm

Since it works for sending email automatically, so it should be started automatically with Windows by default, is not, users may lose some emails.

So, same reason, users may use ARA to open folders/files usually, so this should be the default action.

If we have not do this, there will be questions from the users.

Hope it is helpful.

Kelly Hamblin I just installed this to see how it compares to Nir Sofer's RecentFilesView. I knew, of course, that Advanced Recent Access shows more than just files, and that is a plus. It also turned out to be very quick.

I was, however, very surprised to find that the text is not black. It is blue or maybe it's gray, either way it is too light. For me, that is a problem. There are no options to change it, in fact no options of any kind are available in the application.

I see you plan new features sometime in the future. I hope they include black text.

TSS Support @Guy Good

For your questions:

"How does this compare to RecentX if you are familiar with that product?"

We do not know RecentX, and we design this product without referring any other products. But we can give our concept of design:

1. As it's homepage said: "See More Properties of Recent Used Resources". In Windows, you can only see the name of recent used resources, so, considering if you have D:\test and F:\test folders, and always visit them, you may take time to decide which one is your want. And consider more resources with the same names.

2. ARA will record the visit times if you use it to open your resources, in order to let you quickly open the most common resources.

That's the basic concept for why we made it.

"Is there any way to automatically exclude one or more user specified drives or folders from being added to the Recent Access list?"

Good suggestion, we will add the excluding list to the "Filter" area in the next version.

Thank you.

Richard User I want to give an unsolicited testimonial for Advanced Recent Access. I bought a license during an earlier BDJ promotion. It's a handy little utility that makes doing work on my PC just a little bit easier. I might only use it a few times a week to access a file. For me, that's convenience enough to justify the promotional price.

ARA has one way it could be better, and I've asked for this as an enhancement. ARA has to be running all the time in order to log and present recently-accessed files. If you close the app unwittingly, then it isn't working for you. I wish there was a user-option setting to make sure the app is running all the time, OR at least give a "are you sure you want to exit?" dialog box when you hit the "X" or otherwise close the app.

Other than that, I give ARA thumbs-up for the utility that it is.

Matt This software DOES NOT show a file or folder that was recently accessed (opened).

It only shows files and folders that have recently been created or modified.

I opened four .txt files with ARA running in the background (minimized). I then closed all four files. ARA didn't show any of the four files as being accessed.

I then made a change to one of the .txt files and saved the change. ARA then showed this modified file.

ARA does not hold true to its name (NO RECENT ACCESS).

I will be requesting a refund.

Richard User Responding to @Qiulin's reply to my post, I took a look at the release notes for v5.0 (Feb 27, 2018) compared to v4.0 (Oct 28, 2015). To my reading, the v5.0 enhancements appear to be rather underwhelming: support of ??? and Deutsch, a tweaked GUI, adding a user option to autostart, removal of an obsolete option during install, changed the license agreement for installer, and made ARA run a little quicker. (It wasn't slow before.) Unless you speak Korean or German, to my mind none of these enhancements were more important than a confirming dialog box when you close the app. That's just my opinion. But how difficult would it have been to add that feature? Just sayin'.

I still stand by my earlier comments. I like ARA for what it does. But now I'm not too impressed by the resources that TriSun has devoted to enhancing the app. If I didn't already have ARA, I would pay $9 to get it. If I had to pay to upgrade my current v4 to v5, I wouldn't do it for $9. $2 or $3, maybe.

Unfortunately the program does not sort fodlers / files by size (e.g. 125kb, 1mb, 25mb,..) abut handels the sizes like pure numbers, so that e.g. it starts with 1mb, than 125kb than 2mb, than 256kb,... -

Yes, for you, something is not important, but please note that there are many users complain the old UI, even the color of list colors, auto-start by Startup menu, and more.

For "confirming dialog box when you close the app", until now only you need this.

1. accessed file / folder works.
Try to open a file in a folder, and then the file and folder will be listed in ARA.
Please note that only if you open (access) a file, its parent folder will be listed, else, not.

Think this: only access folder but not open any file under a folder, you are doing locating/browsing action, not access. When you locating a file, you may access many folder in Windows Explorer, if recorded all them, the list will host many unuseful info, such as C:\, E:\, C:\Windows...

2. It's upgrade plan already.

Actually, another person (@Tortuga) asked for the same enhancement of adding the dialog box after I first suggested it in March 2 2017. You also replied to me at that time that you said my suggestion "was planned". Scroll up in comments to see both posts.

I am certainly aware that the "_" button is to minimize and "X" is to close. My suggestion of the dialog box was to prevent unintended closure by the user. Some apps stay open when you use "X"... they just move to the system tray (Skype, Hard Disk Sentinal [sold here on BDJ], the app Everything, Glasswire, all resident anti-virus and anti-malware software, and others). It is easy to forget which app behaves which way. Since ARA doesn't track the user's document activity when it isn't running, most users would want it running all the time I would think. The confirming dialog box would ensure the user isn't misremembering how ARA works. That's a lot more important than a different background color, IMO.

Please don't patronize me by insinuating I don't know how to minimize a window. I used to design software for a living. I just gave you a good idea for free. It's a reasonable and obvious request from someone who actually uses the app. A decent programmer could have added that feature in a couple of hours, tops. But if you don't want to add the feature, don't. I won't hold my breath, based on this interaction.

1. ARA does not monitor any resource.

2. See its home page, the yellow text "See More Properties of Recent Used Resources", not more resources, it's "More Properties".

3. It is based on Windows recent items, and pluses some features, so called "Advanced Recent Access".

4. "Accessed time" is a discarded concept for Windows, at least, since Vista, MS does not monitor it, you can see any file's property to verify this.

Hope this helps.

If I rename a file, or move a file from one directory to another (or another drive), does ARA record that?

Can I specify the number of files remembered, or the number of days before a file is dropped from the list? If so, can I have separate values for different file extensions, e.g. remember only a week of .mp3 files, but a month of .xlsx files?

Please change back "THE FINE PRINT" to lifetime, else, the purchased users will receive the email that says "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months".

In fact, your "THE FINE PRINT" is not working for today's product.

It contacts the following licenses:
1 year, 1 pc.
lifetime, 3 pcs.
lifetime, 1 pc.
lifetime, 10 pcs.

It's very hard to describe all them in your "THE FINE PRINT", no matter how you write, different users will always have problems.

I think the purchasable items have clearly described the validity period of license and upgrades, so removing the "the fine print" tab is better, it does not make sense for all the 4 purchasable items...

dave User Thanks to BitsDuJour and ARA for the chance to evaluate this program.

Downloaded and installed and registered with no problems, except registration took well over 2 minutes. It took 3 minutes to make a list of about 50 files and 50 directories. I have over 1000 doc and xls files on my hard drive.

TaskManager reports that up to 39.4 % of CPU is being used, even when the keyboard has not been touched for minutes. Leaving the window open and not doing anything else, the top line says "Not Responding" for a few seconds every 30 seconds or so. My system: Windows 10 Pro, Intel I5-3570K 3.40gZ CPU, 16 GB RAM, 64 BIT.

There is nothing to indicate what the icons at the top of the page are for. Some, like the gear and the ?, are used in most programs, some I have never seen before and I'm scared to click on them.

The columns are sortable by clicking on the column title, but it's very sluggish.

The program is too sluggish for me to keep. Will uninstall after finishing this post.

Suggestions: (1) Have check boxes beside each file. After the first run, the user could check the boxes that he/she wants in the report. (2) Allow filter by file extension. Allow filter by main directory only, excluding subdirectories. (3) Let the user select how many files to list. Personally, I want quick access to only about 10 files. I can use Windows Directory for all others. Perhaps an ARA Lite version?

The verifying process will visit our remote URL (a PHP script), please check if your security software blocked it.

https://www.trisunsoft.com/wdnverkey.php

If return blank, means your PC can visit it.

Hope this helps.

Charles Howard I first ran https://www.trisunsoft.com/wdnverkey.php and it opened a blank page. I then turned off my firewall, entered the key and got the same message that I needed to input the correct license key. Also when I entered the key a red colored box flashed on the screen. It appeared for approximately .1 seconds so I could not tell what it said.

Kelly Hamblin I have tons of files on my system, and often forget the name of the file I was using yesterday - or the day before. These kinds of applications are very helpful. I tried Advanced Recent Access once and liked it very much, as much as Concept World's RecentX. However the licensing is very different. There is also, if it's only files you need to locate, Nir Sofer's RecentFilesView is free.

Rich I just tried to get the deal, and went thru the order process, but the download refuses to start, even after trying the "click here if download doesn't start automatically", and also after clicking the "Download" button from the license email. ??

Mitchell User I already have a license for WinExt, which also displays recently accessed files. What additional features does this program have?

TSS Support @Mitchell User

If you have license of WinExt, just ignore this program.
ARA just is a sub product of WinExt, for who only needs ARA.

Hope this helps.

Christopher J. Spilker Hi, how does this differ from the Recent utility in a User's profile in Windows? Thank you.

TSS Support @Christopher J. Spilker

In ARA:
1. You can see more properties of the recent resources, such as path, size, type, date modified and date created.
2. You can see more resources, such as programs.
3. Automatically Records Accessed Times
4. Automatically Deletes Nonexistent Resources
5. Filters Recent Resources by Types and Text
6. Automatically Remembers Order, Width and Sorting of Columns
7. Can Hide the Unwanted Properties.

In Windows itself:
X:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent:

You can only see the name of shortcuts, type (all are shortcuts), size (all are 1 KB).

Hope this helps.

Gary User how is it invoked? I use FileCenter as a replacement for File Explorer, so I would only want Advanced Recent Access to popup when I specifically click its link in the taskbar (or a right click menu item) - is that possible to setup or does it require that file explorer be opened?

TSS Support @Gary User

1. It is an independent software. You can run it by double-click (desktop) or click (taskbar) it's shortcut. No File Explorer opening needed.

2. See virus scan report on this page:
https://www.bitsdujour.co...virus-scan

So, you can use Edge to download it.

Hope this helps.

Michael User I'm testing the trial version. It's doing well in terms of directories, images, documents, audio, etc., but it doesn't display recently launched applications. I noticed when I installed the software, the initial list contained recent applications by name, but moving forward, when I launch an app it usuallyappears on the list as "windows explorer" and isn't linked to the particular app I've run.

Also, when I click the "close" button (X), is there any way to have it just close to the tray rather than fully exit?

When you close X, it will ask you for confirmation.
To display it in the system tray area, just click _

Hope this helps.

TSS Support @Michael User

Recent apps are read from Windows Registry.
Maybe some software/settings blocked this:

The location is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache
