Thank you for comparing us with Pingdom. They are a good but AlertFox costs *less* and offers more. And here is why:

(1) Pingdom Business Account: US$ 39.95/month
(2) AlertFox PRO1 Account: US$ 49.95/month (***US$ 19.98/month with BDJ discount***)

Both companies offer up to 30-50 normal checks per month in their business packages. These are HTTP page load tests, DNS tests etc.

But what you need nowadays is the so called real user monitoring with web browsers. This is where AlertFox really shines:

(1) Pingdom: [ 0 ] (real user monitoring not available)
(2) AlertFox: [ 2-10 ] real user checks in the PRO1/2/3 accounts.

If you want to read more about real user monitoring I recommend the book "Complete Web Monitoring" from Alistair Croll and Sean Power.

Dotcom-Monitor is (just like Pingdom, see my answer above) is a typical Web 1.0 area monitoring service. It does not offer in-depth real user monitoring (transaction monitoring). Thus it can not detect problems with AJAX, Javascript, Flash etc.

But even if you look only at the classic monitoring: Here our PRO3 account provides up to 50 checks every *5 min* for US$ 199.00. At Dot-com monitor the same number of tests costs US$ 249.00 according to http://dotcom-monitor.com...erview.asp - and that does NOT include and real browser testing!

If you are on a budget, try our Basic account for only US$9.99/month or even our free package at http://www.alertfox.com/f...onitoring/

But you yourself a favor and get real user monitoring :-)

You are not right about Dotcom-Monitor defining them as "typical Web 1.0 area monitoring service" Take a look http://dotcom-monitor.com/userview.asp They support both AJAX and JS. Besides they also provide real-user monitoring

If they have real user monitoring in the more advanced accounts than this is good news. It just proofs my point that it is an important feature to have :-)

Ralph Bressler The offer states a 1 YEAR license for $47.95 down from $119.88. The website indicates that the $119.88 is per MONTH. So, is it $47.95 per year or $47.95 per month?

Constantin Florea @Ralph, when you press the Buy Now button you will see in a pop-up, the list of available AlertFox plans currently on promotion. The regular and discounted prices shown in the pop-up refer to the yearly price. In fact if you would look at the "Plans" section on the AlrertFox web site you will see that if you multiply each of those prices by 12 months you would get the regular prices in the pop-up. Today's discount is of 60% and is available for all the AlertFox plans.

The $119.88 price (discounted at $47.95 for the current promotion) refers to the "AlertFox Basic" plan and refers to the amount paid for 1 year (not 1 month).

I've tried finding on the AlertFox web site where it says that $119.88 is per month but I couldn't find any such page/location.

Payton User So after the first year - does the price revert to $49 per month? $ 49 per month is what is what the plan and the check out screens say.

If I get one plan and find it is not robust enough - would it be possible to apply the discount to the upgrade?

Ipswitch @Payton: The 60% BitsDuJour discount is for the first year. After one year you are charged the regular yearly fee, which is still 20% less then the monthly fee on the website. Note that you change to monthly billing or even cancel your subscription anytime. There is no lock in!

You can also upgrade to another yearly PRO plan at the same BitsDuJour discount for a limited time. Just email us to discuss the details.
