But with the advent of eBooks, you also have a growing collection of digital books. How can you be expected to keep track of all of your reading material across all media? With today's discount software promotion, Alfa eBooks Manager!

Alfa eBooks Manager lets you organize both electronic and paper books in a single consolidated library. Same holds true for book cover art.

Lastly, in addition to helping you organize and track your library, Alfa eBooks Manager can also help you to move files between your computer, external storage card, and eBook reader! brenda adams HOW UPDATE?
I have older version 3.2.0.2 and need to update, however at website and in program itself--in About or in Help--I see nothing. What is latest version and what are changes and HOW does one update? I don't find a letter from you telling how (I've read that this is how you notify of an update but sorry, can't find.)

brenda adams Thanks Yuriy! I am enjoying your program and thank you for corresponding with me when I had questions.

You have some very nice features in your program. (I own every book program known to man, I think.) I like Alfa very much for my many ebooks (includes books made by my Mastercook software...way cool to be able to put them into Alfa and point to the book and keep notes about the book, etc. PLUS all my many books and periodicals in varlous computer/Ereader formats.)

Is there a limit to the number of ebooks, books, mags, pdf's, etc that can be brought into your program?
Another question: I've used your Import from Calibre feature. Nice!! What happens if I add more ebooks to Calibre and need to therefore Import from Calibre again? Will it see just the newest additions? Or will it duplicate all the ones already added?

Do you plan more development?
Nov 29 2013 at 4:44pm Copy Link
0
Yuriy Loza Thank Brenda!
The numbers of books is limited only by the power of your computer. Usually we recommend to keep up to 20 thousand books in one database. If you have more - you can split your library into 2 or several parts

When you import from Calibre again the Scan tool will find duplicates and you will be able to remove duplicates (not to add them to database)

Yes the new version is under development

Ela S. 1. As I remember well, Alfa eBooks does also import and manage books from the Google books site - collected in the user's personal Google library rsp in Gooreader. Is this true?

2. If one has the free version of Alfa eBooks already installed, how to upgrade the existing version to the paid Alfa eBooks Pro version?

Needs the old programm version and database to be deleted? Or will the Pro version overtake the existing old database?

Thanks for your kind clarification

Yuriy Loza 1. Yes Alfa can import Google Library XML file
2. The Pro version will work with the same database file. It won't be deleted

Ela S. Kindle, eBooks, PDFs, Google books, computer files, eLibraries, book shelves and much more, administrated in one book program - a dream has become true. Best book management software I have ever purchased.

Now, is there a possibility to get the library of a scientific book reference management system (ie CITAVI https://www.citavi.com) rsp its database integrated into Alfa eBooks as well?

Which format could such a database have?

Or can the Alfa eBooks database be integrated into such a book reference management system?
Feb 17 2014 at 9:47am Copy Link

Yuriy Loza Hi Ely, thanks
Integration with this system is a separate task and it could be fulfilled for additional fee.
Or you can do this integration yourself. Alfa uses open database format .SDF so it's possible to develop a .net app, integrating this database and any system

Steven Barnett I'm trying to download the trial and keep getting a page not found error:

"The requested page "/files/aem2.zip" could not be found."

I tried the "Free" edition and that happily scanned for eBooks then refused to let me add them to the library as that is a function of the paid version. So I have ended up with a completely empty library with no way to add the books I have on my local machine.

Constantin Florea @Steven Barnett - I am sorry for the issue with the download URL. We have updated it with the one from the product site.

Steven Barnett Thanks for that, but that page allows me to download the "Free" edition or to BUY the full edition.

I had previously installed the free edition, left it for 10 minutes while it scanned my ebooks and PDFs, only to be told that I could not add any of the books it found because that was a function of the paid edition. Not exactly a free trial.

Not to worry.

Constantin Florea @Steven Barnett - We can only provide the trial download URL for the application. In the case of this product, there is no other trial download URL except for the one associated with the free product:
http://alfaebooks.com/files/aem.zip
BitsDuJour Admin - Jul 18 2014 at 6:32am Copy Link

Steven Barnett That's fine. I understand it's not your fault. However, I can't make an assessment of this product using the free version because it has next to no functionality. Nothing that I would want to do can be done with this version. The tool is all about managing an eBook library and the free version cannot manage an eBook library.

So, my options are to forget it or pay for it and hope it does what I want. Given those options, I'll pick the "forget it" option.

That's not the fault of BitsDuJour (an excellent service) but is the fault of a vendor who offers a "free trial" that is incapable of being trialed.

Pavi Johnson Hi, I also am having trouble testing due to the free version limitations. If I use a barcode scanner to generate a list of ISBNs, can Alfa bulk import them and fill in the relevant information?

It seems like Alfa can import csv with certain fields mapped - does this work if only ISBN is present?

More importantly, if I import a list of ISBNs, can Alfa fill in the details of all books in bulk, without the need to do individually?

Best, /Pavi

RS I don't see the purpose of offering this software on BDJ when it is currently two cents cheaper at the developer's site. I'm considering a purchase; however, it seems to me that a further discount should be offered as an incentive for loyal BDJ customers who tend to have more IT knowledge than the average bear.

Brenda Adams i love the program. everytime i use it, i love it more.

Suggestion:
i know users can put list of isbns into csv and import those books into Alpha, but please consider (as several other book management programs offer) option to Import from ISBN List -- (from vertical column of isbns--flush left--plain text. (no csv required.)
makes it very easy since is only plain text and no additional program is needed.

Also: Calibre import - would like Do Not Add Duplicates ooption
--
or Add Calibre books from (date added) 1/20/2015 only, (for example).

Whatever...love your program. Glad I bought it--for so many reasons and so many uses. :)

Michael R. Just downloaded the free version of Alpha eBook Manager (AEM), to check it out. I tried to import a Kindle- and a pdf-file. In both cases I got the message, that this feature is only supported by the professional-edition. Is there a trial edition of the pro-edition?

Can I import ALL kindle-files (and view them from within AEM) or are there restrictions?
Can I import kindle ebooks from different kindle-accounts?

Same questions for Audible-audio-books: I have more than one account...

A disadvantage - in a certain view - of Kindle is, that comments of a book are stored on the amazon-server. I suppose this can be avoided by importing all Kindle ebooks and make the comments there. Right? Is there a way to transfer the comments/bookmarks from AEM back to the Kindle?

Is it possible to link certain positions of an ebook from outside, i.e. make AEM automatically load a certain ebook and jump to a given position?

Is there a plan to be able to embed video-files in AEM too?

RS Yuriy,

"Actually we only changed version names, so the Pro version became Web and Premium became Pro. Their prices didn't changed. And we upgraded all Pro users to Web."

As I recall, v6 Pro was $19.99. So it would appear that v7 Web is more expensive. In any event, I wasn't aware of this automatic upgrade to v7 Web. So, as an owner of v6 Pro, how do I get my copy?

"AlfaReader is a standalone reader that can be used along with Alfa Ebooks Manager (containing built-in reader). The sense is that it allows to quickly open books without loading a big database of books.”

I understand the difference, but I don't see the point of having both. Calibre's built-in reader is a separate program that launches without having to open the main manager. So wouldn't it be better to streamline the manager by removing the current built-in reader, and include the standalone reader (which doesn't add any additional functionality) with the manager in order to enhance the flexibility of the entire program (as opposed to charging more for an additional item)? After all, that is the purpose of newer versions, no?

Thanks for your attention and assistance.

Yuriy Loza RS, the Old Pro version was 39.95. Please contact supportalfaebooks.com to get the upgrade.
