Colin Pritchard Note, there is a surcharge of $3.50 for paying with PayPal and they also charge VAT. One wonders how the VAT finds its way back to the UK Government coffers.

Tony Setti Trying to export to Excel gives me "OLE error 800A03EC". I can't automatically submit by email, as I don't use Outlook/Outlook Express or any locally installed email program, which seems to be what it wants.

Export to Text works well, though, and it imports just fine into Excel.

Colin Pritchard I'm just about to buy this program because I've looked at it and it seems to me just what I want. I'm grateful for the discount and am very suspicous of the first three or four comments.

Maybe I'm cynical?

Tony Setti @ Frank Mukasa - you might want to check out LibraryThing, which is an online service. Lets you export to Excel, which you can then import elsewhere, in case you ever find software that works for you.

@ Colin Pritchard - I think it's typical of testimonials given by users who are wowed by software which does ISBN look-ups, which is something just about all of them do these days. From what I've seen, it's a pretty good program. However, not a peep from anyone at Bolide about the error I mentioned over 12 hours ago.

Mr Carey Pearson I would like to try 'All My Books', however I have over 3500 e-books in 2 bible software apps. They are WS8 and Libronix.
Will your software handle these titles (religious type books)?
If I am not satisfied, will I get a refund?
Thanks,
Carey

Max Smirnoff Carey, it is better to try All My Books before you buy the license. It doesn't matter is it religious books or not, but some e-book formats (file type) can be unreadable by All My Books. So, I advice you to try All My Books, it has a 30 day trial.

Peter Wallace Greetings,

Does your software support barcode scanning with a barcode scanner? If not that would be a GREAT feature - all books have barcodes on them. Perhaps then getting the name from like Amazon - then using the other features of your software to get the rest of the info, etc....
Oct 7 2009 at 6:26pm Copy Link

Max Smirnoff Ruud Jansen, you can activate the program on several your _own_ PCs with the same registration key (1 license). Also you can activate the program twice for your dual boot PC as well.

Peter Wallace, yes, All My Books support barcode scanners. Use scanner with the function of menu item "Book-Add by ISBN..." to get your collection filled quickly

Good Guy When I deleted books, it didn't appear to remove the authors from the Persons Directory. It also displayed the cover of a deleted book when I added a new book which didn't have cover art. I added the new book by ISBN. I manually deleted the obsolete cover art from books I added and deleted. When that was finished, I went into Preferences-Display Area and did a Rebuild. The cover art seems to be displaying properly, but it shouldn't be necessary to delete thumbnails manually.

Lisa Zach This software sounds wonderful [esp the part abt adding books from an existing list]. Do you think you might add a feature that includes all the books an author has written and highlights what you have in your list? That way it becomes easy to see what books of an author I still have to get without entering their entire bibliography manually.
Thanks

Ed Kivi My collection is mostly paperbacks. I entered the ISBN for just one book, to see what the program could do, and it returned something like "no information found". FYI, the ISBN I tested with was entered two ways, as "0743445961" and as "0-7434-4596-1" (without the quotes, of course). I would certainly have purchased the program if it had succeeded in acquiring information about L. A. Graf's sci-fi paperback novel "The Janus Gate: Past Prologue", a 2002 publication. But since it failed on one that old, I don't believe it will do what I was hoping it would do. Sorry.

Max Smirnoff Hello Ed,

Thank you for your comment!

All My Books supports many online databases to query book details from. Moreover, you can download additional plugins for the new online book databases support from this page:
http://www.bolidesoft.com...nload.html

To switch the database to query book details from you need to click on the small button with "arrow down" image on it near the "Original title" field. By default Amazon database being used, but you can switch to Google, for example.

Roy Grubb I started to buy using Payal, but then found there was an added GBP2.47. I went back to the first page of the checkout process to see what this was and saw it was a "manual processing fee".

What is that and why is it in addition to the advertised price?

Previously I had not provided street address info, as this is not needed for PayPal, so I thought maybe that's why there was a manual processing fee so I added the street address and clicked continue.

Then it told me my transaction was complete.

But I haven't gone through the PayPal part of the transaction yet.

I want the product, but I will only pay the advertised amount.

Regards,
Roy Grubb

As far as I know, our payment processing partner SWREG adds the manual processing fee to each PayPal order. It is their rules, we can't change them, sorry. There is no fee if you'll pay by credit card.

In regard to printing a list of all books shown in one's personal library, is it possible to print a list of books with each author's name shown "one time only" followed by a list of that author's book?.

b adams I bought All My Books and so did a friend of mine. We are both in love with it. We are cookbook collectors and keep many 'books' in our computers using Mastercook recipe software. We point All My Books at our various files, it then goes and looks online for a match...we add info if that's called for right there on the info grabbed window...and store...and the beauty of that is: the program allows us to also store a link back to the 'book' and set it to open that book when we click on the little book icon that the program has.

I have BookCat (which is very sophisticated and I have 3000+ real books stored on it) and I have Collectorz, and a few others. But now, I am nutty about this simple, intuitive but multi-featured All My Books and recommend it highly to all. I don't know about uses that are highly complicated (mine aren't)... I have seen many discussions online from people who store fiction or non-fiction book data and take it to degrees and places I could never have the patience to go with it. I know BookCat is about the best I've ever seen for that kind of thing... but for what I do and the info required for cookbooks (real or ebook) this seems plenty and also has some cool features the others don't!
For instance: On the main 'recipe card' there is an icon (drawing of a book) and there is also a link to the website where the info was obtained (like Amazon).
The book icon means: open me to where you've pointed it..in my case, my C: Mastercook file, e.g. Cooking Light, 1998. (It opens the ebook when I click on that). These two little features are not available on other programs...not on the main screen image, anyway. (In other programs, if you have these features at all, they are buried inside tabs often...gotta go searching.) There are so many delights with AMB. I could say more but I bet there isn't enuf space.

Max Smirnoff James, yes, we are going to release All My Books 2.0 very soon. Just give us 2-3 days for hard testing ;)

Some new features are:

- print function with editable templates. Now you can make a tabletop
catalog of your valuable collection

- an ability to export your collection to PDF format. Make a nice
digital copy of your catalog

- network mode, so, now you can share your database in your home
network and access it from several computers simultaneously. More
details about this feature you'll get in the release notice.

- Password protection of the database changes. With this protection
enabled, your database will be opened in read-only mode by default. A
great way to protect the database from unauthorized changes,
especially if you share it in your network.

Even more to come!

Nelson Therrien In the platform section, it's written that it supports all versions of Windows since XP, but only in 32 bits... I have the version 1.9 installed on Windows 7 64 bits and it runs well. Is there any reason it is not specified that 64 bits systems are supported?

Also, I hope this is for version 2... it's cheaper to buy a new licence here than to upgrade my version 1.9...

Tore Hoyem Not a question to Bolide Software, per se, but how does this compare to "My Book Library" which is apparently another upcoming offer?

The fact that I can find no information on MBL makes me a bit wary of that product, but since they are both 'up there' it would be nice to have a little more basis for comparison.

I'll start off with All My Books for now, though.

Cheers.

Toni McConnel I bought this program on a 'deal' about a year ago. Best thing about it is ease of entering books - you only need to enter one item of info, such as the title or ISBN, and the program does the rest. Don't hesitate; you get more than your money's worth. Altho I think there are things that could be done better, you know how much I like it from the fact that I took the trouble to come back and leave this post.

Emil Kucera The trial version, on opening, immediately blanked the screen several times, freezing the mouse as well, and eventually ending with "program not responding" dialog, which, thankfully, allowed me to exit. I then immediately proceeded to uninstall, because I cannot afford jeopardizing my running work. Pity. I was hoping to import over 2000 books from an Access database. Are there know compatibilities? I have a bunch of programs running - Excel, a CAT tool, intellicomplete, browser and others...

Emil Kucera Max, at this price I bought the program anyway - hope to get it running sooner or later; but would you answer my question above, re possible incompatibilities?
Aug 14 2011 at 12:10pm Copy Link

J Pieper I first bought this program several years ago through Bits du Jour. We purchased the major version upgrade last year, at the same discounted price, direct from Bolide Software since we wanted the added features. It has worked well on laptops and desktops, under 4 different Windows operating systems, 2000, XP home and pro, Vista x32 home, and Win 7 x64 pro.

So far we have not run across any incompatibilities and remain happier with All My Books than we ever were with much more expensive competing software.

To help with their tight budget, I tried to get the library committee at church to switch to this from a product charging $200 annually for a license. They tried and liked this software, but felt the inability to print paper catalog index cards and spine labels for books were deal stoppers for them. An electronic catalog and loan record have worked fine for our home collection of books.

Joel S This is a handy little app and at $9.95 is good value. Used ver 1.x at another location but discontinued because it crashed frequently.

Another quirk: You couldn't lassoo text and copy to clipboard in the usual way - you have to lassoo and right click to copy ! This might be a Delphi restriction but it's annoying.

That said, the developer did respond to emails regarding the crashing issue of old version, so giving the program another try.

James, sorry, I guess All My Books is not suitalble for magazine's articles organizing.

Pedro, there is no actual due date for the next major release. I think it will be the middle of 2012.

Emil, currently we don't know any specific incompatibility issues. The programs works well and tested with Windows XP, Vista, 7. Both 32 and 64 bit editions.

Steven Avery Hi,

Nice program.

Can I launch a book to read directly ? Like a PDF to read that it already found and listed. That would seem to be basic, but I did not see a way.

Its probably a buy anyway, to keep track of books on my disk, etc.

I did get caught in a little loop when it was scanning my disk, where I had to kill it to get out and it was adding a book and asking for info.

Can I work with Google books and Archive.org any way short of downloading the book first. Where it keeps the URL etc.

I'm impressed, anyway.

It would be perfect, if I could enter an alert-buy/sell-price for a list of books and AMB could run through bookstore-sites (again e.g. amazon) and alert me if a (used) book is available now for the given price or the cheapest price of a book is higher than my given-sell price.

In the later case, this would be a possibility to offer an owned book at amazon. (Scanning all my books by hand and check, if it would make sense to offer them there and find out there are so many offers about 1$ is really annoying. So defining a limit of - let's say 10$ and let AMB check the current prices really would be a time-saver.)

Is such a feature available now or planned for an update-version?

Eddie Tex eBooks
Trying this out now. I tested it against an eBook I had purchased via Google eBookstore and it successfully identified the book.

Logos/Libronix
Additionally, for those with Logos/Libronix libraries, Logos/Libronix typically shows the ISBN number right after the title page. Copying and pasting this number will allow AMB to import the information as well. There was one instance where that did not work, but entering a few words of the book title led to an online search that pulled the correct book.

The program seems straightforward and effective. You can customize your own fields and the standard search feature will probably prove to be very helpful. I'll probably buy this. My only criticism at this point is with regards to the UI, which looks like "XP." It does not use the standard windows classes allowing it to display like other windows programs.

Don Wagner I am trying out the trial version and am impressed with the product. The only problem I am having with the program is adding a "date read" date. I have many books that I have read as far back as the mid '90's. Is there any way I can actually add a date manually instead of having to use the calender and scroll back 10+ years. Having to do all of that scrolling negates the ease of adding books to the library.

Michael Speir I have to say I really like the layout. I think you have the right idea. I have to ask, though, are Book and ISBN searches disabled for the trial version? Max Smirnoff Hi Michael!
the search is not disabled in the trial version. We haven't our own database, therefore the program uses different online data sources like Amazon and others. You may try to switch the data source to another one using small button with the "arrow down" image on it near the "Original title" field in the book card dialog. I hope it helps

CJCotter (No questions here.) I hate product reviews that gush, but what a GREAT program! I already bought this in mid-December 2012 after trying out a couple of others. All My Books has all kinds of options to configure it the way you want it! Though I'm not an eBay merchant, STRONGLY urge your customers to buy a CueCat barcode scanner on eBay to use with this program. I did. If you scan two books per minute (and I’m being generous), that’s 120 books inventoried in just one hour! Can’t say enough nice things about your program!

John H Is this a proprietary database format? Can it be reliably exported to other programs? Open Office or Libre Office database or spreadsheet modules would be nice.

Can I exclude graphics from being saved by the program?

Can I keep the database in my Dropbox or online folder and access it from my other computers?

Does each computer I own require its own separate online activation?

Thanks in advance for a great deal.

Max Smirnoff John, here are the answers to your questions:

1) All My Books uses MS Access database, you can open it in MS Access and export in any format you want. The built-in export functions can export your collection to CSV (can be opened in Libre Office spreadsheet module, I guess), MS Excel, HTML, CHM or PDF format.
Also, you can export the collection to iPhone or iPad :) We developed the special mobile apps as well.

2) if you don't want to download any graphics, you can use "do not download covers at all" option in the Preferences (menu item Tools-Preferences), "Online databases" tab.
By default, the program stores the images inside the database file, but you can switch to store them in a separate folder in the Preferences, "Expert options" tab.

3) It is better to use Dropbox as a backup location only. You can set the Dropbox folder as a backup folder for All My Books databases in the Preferences. If you open the database from Dropbox folder, every little change will cause _entire_ database file to update in the Dropbox storage. The better way - you can share the database file in your local network using some shared folder and open it from several computers. Some tips regarding the network usage are available at http://www.bolidesoft.com...-mode.html

4) Yes, each computer requires separate online activation. The good thing - we allow to activate the program on up to 3 _own_ computers with the same single license :)

Nebulous User I have about 2500 books in my home library. I have the majority of them Dewey Decimalized, but that is a laborious process for doing in your spare time.

(1) Does AMB provide a spot for a Dewey # on the main screen? I have tried book collection software that either gave me a customizable field name that I could use for the Dewey # or else did provide a predefinied field for this but it was on a tab I had to click rather than up front. Neither is a good option - I want to be able to input it easily and see it easily in my search results, plus I want to use it in my reports.

(2) Does AMB automatically retrieve Dewey #s from sources like OCLC WorldCat or other libraries?

Thanks.

Nebulous user,
(1) Yes, AMB has the special field for Dewey and can display it on the main screen in the books details area.
(2) Unfortunatey, AMB doesn't automatically retrieve Dewey #s from the default databases. Amazon doesn't provide Dewey #'s, for example. You can try to use an additional plugin for getting book details from Library of Congress, it is available for download at http://www.bolidesoft.com...nload.html

I've added my book database from excel (1996 books) and it was imported succesfully.

BUT when I try to use "Click to download cover" it opens a window, shows a progress circle (like a classic flash one) and the window closes itself.

If I insert a book manually it works, I can search the book, the title, etc, etc but I can't do it for 1996 books!!

Any idea why this is happening? Thanks!

Steven Avery Hi,

Some nice stuff, ISBN successfully gets book info. No google books integration, although that might be google's problem.

The comments field should show on the full-screen mode because that is where you would put important comments, plus a couple of user-defined fields would be nice.

There is a "Create Template" in printing. That is very important. However it is not really there, unclear if Trial-disabled or a future planned feature.

Similarly some sort of keyword search, e.g. the search does not include the "synopsis". Mostly I would like another field like comments where I could put in keywords that would show up in search, I tried putting data in "play time" but the search ignores that field. It allowed me to put alpha data into Circulation but then ignored what I put in because it really is a numeric field. Granted you can place one book in multiple categories and use the category search.

Would like to read a comparison with the competition. For some research and personal library purposes a good app like this could be very neat.

There seemed to be a small glitch, that after some type of searching (the scan online, maybe some other time too) the ALL did not bring up ALL until I did Database-Reopen.

The non-proprietary data format, the fact of a decent little forum and the super-price make this a very nice offer. The comments not viewing full-screen and the lack of a keyword search are examples of areas that really should be stronger. Yes there is a categorty

Max Smirnoff Michael, it is not possible to load entire book list you own from Amazon. The batch import is available from CSV or MS Sxcel format and for the list of barcodes.

Bob, as far as I know, it it not possible to turn off that URL appendix in the current version.

Albert, yes, when you activate the program on the same computer with reinstalled Windows, it counts as a new activation. However, I don't think it is the reason to wait - actually, it is very hard to get banned by our automatic activation system :)

Jac, "Click to download cover" function will work again on 26-th of February. We are using Bing Search API for searching the covers and run out of search request quota. Trying to request a higher quota, but Microsoft support is too slow. When you add a book, the cover is downloading from the database you select, not from Bing. Sorry for this inconvenience.

Steven, you can add user defined fields in the Preferences (menu item "Tools-Preferences") "Custom fields" tab. "Create template" in printing should work as well as editing any of the existing templates - you have to use double click to activate the function. Almost any available field (including Synopsis and Comments) is available for search using menu item "Tools-Book Search..." or by pressing F3 key

Can you explain why your Amazon Affiliate code is appended to the URL of every book I add to AllMyBooks? Seems odd to have it there, and possibly a reason not to use/trust the software.

Norm Sash @ Bob McLain I've noticed the same thing regarding what appears to be an Amazon affiliate ID added to the Amazon URL. I don't necessarily know why I feel a little uncomfortable with that, but it did cause some discomfort. That being said, I don't think that it really hurts anything. Doesn't affect my buying experience that I know of, and AMB just gets a little dime for it.

It would be nice to be able to edit the master affiliate ID's though... for example, let's say that I have a favorite cause or person I work with and just want to give them the credit for the purchase.

You're right, it doesn't hurt anything, but I wish Bolide had been up-front about pasting their Amazon Affiliate ID to the URL of all of my books. It's an interesting example of a "hidden fee" that is being paid to them by Amazon as the result of my actions.

The solution, as you suggest, is to give us the option of changing the Affiliate ID, or doing away with it altogether.

HJ B I have purchased this program. I want to use it mainly to catalog electronic books. Perhaps I am missing something, but, as far as I can tell:

1. The data base does not include a field that provides the actual file type (pdf, epub, chm, djvu, etc.) There is a field that contains the path to the ebook, but that is not the same as a file type field. All ebooks are simply called ebook.

2. If the program is asked to search for books on your hard drive, it proceeds to search for both ebooks and audiobooks. There does not seem to be a way to focus only on one or the other. Once the search begins, the window is locked. If you want to stop the search, it seems you have to us task manager to stop the process. The same window appears to permit you to focus on what kind of ebook you wish to catalog -- it displays a series of types. However, I have not been able to modify that list.

3. It appears that if the search for books option is used, all books found are listed and added. If you exercise that option again, it again finds all books, but does not appear to check back to see if the book is already in the database.

4. If I have 1000 books and 10 of them have the word "finance", when I do a search of the program's database, it displays information concerning one of the books, but does not display a list of all finds and does not permit me to hop to the next find.

5. Once I find a book, i do not see an option, within the program, to a) go to the folder in which that book can be found, or b) to open the book.

6. It would be helpful if the authors provided a reference as to how a document or its file name ought be structured in order to use the program to also catalog documents that are not formally published ebooks. For example, if I have a 1000 electronic essays, in pdf format, what information should I imbed in the title or elsewhere in order to have this program break down different fields of data for that material in its database.(title, author, publisher, pages, file size, format, summary, etc) and which information is just automatically picked up (e.g. file size or number of pages).

7. Does the program have memory or file size limits?

Steven Avery Hi,

HJ B, great questions. I noticed some of the complications in adding from disk as well. Since that is not a major element for me, it is mostly academic, but kudos for asking very clearly.

Bob McLain, the affiliate thing is a puzzler. It really should not be hidden, and you can always snip off the excess part after going to the page, opening a new tab or window. On the other hand when you are getting a program for $10, do we really begrudge Max making a couple of bucks (if that, as he explained) if we happen to buy some books coming from All My Books. I think he should include an opt-out short-url option in config, but do not consider it a deal breaker (rather mild overall, and I am a big complainer on ethical stuff, as Nico knows).

=============

Max, thank you for the printing and custom fields explanations. Now, can you work on two things, the first more immediate.

a) fuller search, including allowing inclusion of Comments, Synopsis etc. This would be a straightforward enhancement.

b) keywords -- but I could take care of that with (a) with my own custom keyword field, if you implement A.

Simple keywords often have a usability advantage over trying to accomplish the same thing with categories.

Thanks.

Bob McLain @Steven Avery I don't begrudge him a few extra bucks from the Affiliate ID links; it's the way it was snuck in there that bothers me. Had Max mentioned on his website that his ID would be tacked onto book URLs, I likely wouldn't have had a problem with it. But I'm now making it into more of a problem than it really is, so I'll stop...

Steven Avery Hi,

Bob, your point is well-taken. And I would like to see Max include a notice about it and an opt-out option, so that is one recommendation. He can explain why he does it to encourage non-opt-outs.

All that being said, it is mild, when you think about various other problems we encounter (such as data-lock, programs that deliberately make printing and exporting very difficult and the links to dubious programs we see in various ways at times.)

Worth mentioning, and it should be changed, but as you said, we can make it more of a problem...

HJ B Upon further use of the program, I found that two of the issues I raised are not issues:

4 - You can do a search that results in a listing of found books in the database. There is some confusion because there is a search window on the main screen that only results in showing the first hit and seems to want you to know what the exact title of the book is. It would make more sense to make that window into a global window that can be set to whatever parameters you generally use, and that produces a list. In order to achieve that result with the present program, one has to select search from the tools menu and fill out your parameters, each time. There is an option to create "advanced filters", but the search parameters created are static. e.g., you can use such a filter to regularly look for books that were copyrighted in 1972 and have the word Lincoln in the title.

5. When a book is found in the program's database. One can highlight the listing and then open the book. It would be nice if they had the additional ability to open the folder in which the book is located.

I look forward to hearing from the developer about the other questions raised.

D Rogers I purchased All my Books about a month ago at close to full retail. I can say the program is beautiful and works great.

But please be aware of this important point. It is not hard but can take anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes to add a book, especially if there are multiple editions, if the book is older, if you have to download a cover copy or if you have to scan in your cover, which I did on some books.

Now do the math. 200 books at 3 minutes a book is 10 hours. This does not include hauling books down from your bookshelf so you can type in the ISBN number into the program if you need to.

If your library is 2000 books, you are looking at a possible 100 hours of work. It took me about 12 hours for a small 200 book library I have. It seemed unending.

Steven Avery Hi,

And I just succeeded with PayPal, suggest you email Bolide and see if they can make later accommodations. Sure they will try, considering.

I actually may have purchased this 2 years back, but since there was one release since then, with a $20 upgrade, simpler just to start fresh.

I really do see some good uses for keeping track of what I have, may buy, may need to read, need to read in libraries, etc.

It is a funny genre, a number of good programs, none that truly stand out of the pack, so the Bits Special looks real fine. Going into an Access database is very helpful if you want to do something else with your compiled info later.

Brad Hi Steven,

Good Idea contacting Bolide directly rather than call SWREG, the last time I dealt with SWREG directly, I failed to get a reply for over 20 hours. They informed me of the error message which I had already taken a screen print of, (NEWS FLASH) when the transaction failed in the first place. In the email SWREG sent me there were no instructions as to how to complete the transaction or what I needed to be do to resolve the existing order. Just an apology that the transaction failed.

So I email them back asking what to do? Twelve hours later I got a completely different representative who informed me I needed to contact the credit card processor. I was certain this was not the problem but I complied, and my Bank told me there were no holds on the account. So calling SWREG is not the best option.

Nebulous User @Max Smirnoff - I currently have a demo from one of your competitors that limits my entries to 100, and I've added 77 to it. I have a very large library of physical books (in the thousands), so I'm trying to find the right tool to catalog them. I saw your import feature and so I imported the 77 from the other tool. I am having trouble, though, finding any place to record the edition of a book and also a particular volume of a set. Those are individual fields in the competitor's tool, which is how a library's OPAC would normally handle it. In AMB, am I missing something, or would I need to add that to the title if I want it included (which is not ideal)? I also would like to import the book images that I've already collected in the competitor's tool but can't see how to do so here. Please advise.

Max Smirnoff Nebulous User, the cover images should be imported too. It seems to me, you discovered some bug in import function.
There is a special field "Volume" available for particular volume in a set in All My Books. Actually, there are two fields available - "Series" for the set name and "Volume" for the number in the set. These fields are available on "Additional" tab in the book card dialog

Jo Ann Rice Hi Max,

Does this program give a field to enter what device is used for some ebooks? For example I have some books that are Nook Books which can only be used with a Nook device or Adobe Digital Editions software. I also have some that are specifically purchased through iTunes which are only readable on an Apple device.

I would like to be able to add a field or have a field that I can type "Nook" or "iTunes" or "DRM Free" etc., is this possible?

Max Smirnoff Jo Ann Rice, you can create a custom field in the Preferences (menu item "Tools-Preferences") "Custom fields" tab. However, you better try to use some existing field first. May be you can use "Location" field, if you don't use it now. It is on "Metadata" tab of the book card dialog.

DroidLuvr @Max:

Thank you for being here and answering all the questions and comments, even those that don't appear to be resulting in sales... To me, that is one of the most important things involved in buying software: it shows me that you are interested in helping your customers as opposed to ONLY getting sales.

So... I am convinced that your company will be great with support and help, but I do have one question that makes a big difference as to whether this software will help with my main project: cataloging ebooks that are still in .zip or .rar formats. Will your software be able to find the .epubs and .pdfs inside archives if I point it to a specific folder?

Thank you!

Nebulous User Max - Thanks for the reply yesterday about importing and noting that the lack of image importing must be a bug with the importer. I wanted to let you know that I went ahead and purchased your software, but I'd like advice on getting the images imported. FWIW, the import was from "BC" (I'm sure you know whati mean). That is a lot of images to redo. It would be great to find a way to bring them into AMB without much effort.

HJ B Note - It appears that this program can also be used to search your drives(s) for pdfs and create a list of them.

It is not clear to me, however, whether the program, when running in that automatic mode, can distinguish between books pdfs and all other pdfs. So, if you set it in auto mode, you may get a lot of material listed that you did not wish to include.

I assumed that if I imported book titles, the program would then search the internet and find information like author, ISBN, cover, etc. If it can do that, it is not clear to me how I can get the program to perform that function.

Jo Ann Rice Just for everyone else to know, this program is an extremely well done setup and with anyone that has hundreds and thousands of books (my husband is a self help book fanatic so we have hundreds at the very least), this is the perfect way to know exactly what books you already own. It's very easy to use, input is simple and can be done using the ISBN number which will automatically populate the information of the book for you if the databases can find it, and it's found every one I've entered so far no matter how out there that book seemed to be to me haha!

Anyways, I wanted to give Kudos to the developer of this program, well done guys, this is definitely worth every penny spent!

Michael R. I am looking for a way to archive my books and - because I simply have too much - sell some of them, e.g. via Amazon.

So if AllMyBooks would be a program that could do the later too, that would be perfect.

So, can it do/support something like this, perhaps in v4?

Great features would be:

Checking Amazon.com/.de for the prices my book is offered on the market (perhaps with the same quality) currently. (For an occasional seller, it would make no sense to offer a book for €0,01). So a check, like 'Which book in my archive are offered in Amazon not at all or for a price not lower than xxx€/$ could be done quick.

Exporting some books directly into Amazon's Marketplace

Data-exporting with AllMyBooks in combination with a hint to another program, which could do this Amazon-stuff would be helpful too.

DroidLuvr I bought this software last time around, and I was a little disappointed because it didn't seem to differential any regular .pdf files as opposed to e-books. I looked back at older comments and never saw a response to a similar question asked back then.

I must admit, that while the program looked enticing, and I'm sure it's great for those who have the time to research which folders to search, I know I'm so overloaded with .pdf articles and e-books mixed together that I took A SINGLE look at the indexing results -- which were VERY impressive BTW -- and decided it wasn't really going to be all that helpful to me at that point in time, and haven't used it in recent months. I don't want to sound negative, because I was really impressed with the capabilities that I did see :)

But, to Max: have there been any improvements with regards to being able to discern between a 2-page .pdf "article" and a 50+ page ebook, for example?

Thanks!

P.S. I am also curious about the release date of version 4, and how much it might cost me to upgrade from last August's purchase, especially considering that I've only used it once... LOL...

Michael R. @Max Smirnoff

Thanks for the answer.

>> It is not hard to lookup the current price, but Marketplace...

If you can check the current price, I suppose checking for the price of used books would be not more complicated either: The main info is on the product-page too, e.g. on Amazon.com '18 Used from $8.50 43 New from $7.79' (and on Amazon.de, which is what I would need: '38 neu ab EUR 9,99 4 gebraucht ab EUR 5,99'). I admit, that the format would probably change from time to time.

Would it be possible to somehow to store the relevant amazon-page in a field of a book-entry, extract the relevant information in a self-written program and write it back (somehow) to your program?

So, what I would need to do that would be 1) custom-fields to save at least price and perhaps the date of the check and 2) a mechanism to efficiently export and import the relevant information...

Max Smirnoff DroidLuvr, the next version (v3.9) will be able to get page count from PDF files (as well as the cover image generated from the first page and other available meta-data). Also, I think we'll add the ability to filter the collection by the given page count range, so you can select all the short articles and delete them with two clicks.

The usual upgrade price to the new major version (4.x in this case) is a half of the full license price.

Emil Kucera This is the second time I bought your program. In 2011 ver. 2 ruined my XP - prevented it from booting.
Tonight, the current offer, on Win 7 system
1. it would not import an Excel file, with a bunch of errors (sent on to you),
2. it showed only a single column of a csv .txt file, useless
3. entering an ISBN number showed the book and cover, but did not show it in the author-title pane, nor in the bookshelf view, and upon closing and re-opening the database, the book was not there.
No wonder you have a "no returns" policy.

When do you expect to release 5.0?

Your version history page shows your releases, but no dates, so it's impossible to figure out how fast your software moves from one major version to another.

Adding 'dates' to your version history page would be very helpful.

Thank you.

Max Smirnoff Michael, All My Books can download book details from Amazon and other sources, can extract book details from e-book and audio book details. However, it cannot get access to your Amazon account to get all the books you purchased there (may be you mean it?).

Batch book details import is available by ISBN number. If you add your book by title or by author, you have to help the program to select the desired book from the search results. After you select a book, AMB will automatically fill-in the fields and download the cover image.

Chuck I bought v3 a few years ago, but never used it. I wanted to update to v4 and reached out to the company via their website for an upgrade price. Crickets.

Despite that, I bought this update and am sorely disappointed. It looks dated, is slow, has struggled to scan and update, and sporadically crashes. In fact, it just crashed again simply trying to change views. I had to use Task Manager to close it.

For the record, I'm using Win10 64-bit i7 w/16 GB RAM. Calibre runs fine. Alfa eBooks Manager runs fine. All My Books doesn't... At all.

I reached out to the developers through their website days ago, but received nothing back.

Lesson learned. I will take my business elsewhere.

Vipin User One of the best software for cataloging your collections of books. I use it regularly to catalog my physical books, and love the simplicity of the application. BUT, as good as the software is, the Customer Services is the worst in comparison.... They don't bother to reply to your mails, even if you are their paid customer. I asked them for support in a few cases where the export to list in excel format is not proper, and even sent them a video of what and how I am getting wrong. Still no replies, and to my numerous other mails too. If you can live with a lousy Customer service, this one is definitely recommended.

Nelson Carvalho Hi,

I would like some clarification.
1. I tested the reading of the ISBN. I received an error message that Internet Explorer must be installed on the computer. Is this right ?
2. Subsequently, in new ISBN collections, he did not give an error message, but did not return data from the book;
3. When typing the name of the book in my language - in the field of the original title, the program was able to discover the real original name and added the translated name in the title field. Perfect. I didn't need to have Internet Explorer installed.
In addition, it added two codes in the ISBN field. Probably one is from the country of origin, because the other code is the one in my book (Brazil).
Why was he unable to identify my country's ISBN reading?

Thanks.

Vipin User Hi Max,

I wanted to ask here again, if getting details from amazon.com issue is resolved? As I said in an email to you, GoodReads and other source of getting the details don't work as expected, and most of the metadata about the books will be missing. Amazon's worked flawlessly, which as of today is not working !
Please let know...

John User Yes, I tried this before and it didn't work very well with the Amazon books I have - maybe because of the drm? Has anyone been able to successfully input Amazon books, preferably in a batch instead of having to enter each book separately using this program?

There are programs that can do this, but I am curious if this one will work.

Thank you

kydara I saw where you said it can import lists from a spreadsheet or text file, but what about a kindle list? I have hundreds of kindle books but I don't have a spreadsheet of the titles - can it generate the list from my kindle account?

Peg kydara, this information was on their website:
If you need to add a lot of books, click "Book -> Scan drive/device for books... in the menu. Specify a folder (or a whole disk) to search for e-book files of known formats. If you want to search for e-books on your e-reader device (for example, Kindle), make sure to connect it to the computer via USB before selecting the above menu item. In that case, All My Books will allow you to specify a folder on the device.

kydara Thanks @Peg for that info. Unfortunately it seems that it can only scan/add ebooks that are actually on the device. I have over 7800 ebooks in my kindle library and only a fraction of them are actually on my kindle, so I don't believe All My Books would be able to catalog them. I'd need a software that can actually log on to my kindle account and scrape the titles from my online library.

Maybe a future version of AMB will have that capability, who knows? :)

Ed Where is the DB stored, locally or in the cloud? IF local, does it have the ability to schedule simple backups to a secondary storage device?

Max Smirnoff Ed, the database stored locally only, automatic backups can be set in the Preferences (menu item "Tools-Preferences"). Manual backup is also available with menu "Database - Backup..."
