Warren Russell Thank you for the reply, Max. I currently have installed version 4.9 from Giveaway of the Day, which cannot be upgraded. The current version seems to be 5.7. I just wanted to make sure that if I installed 5.7, I wouldn't lose 4.9, which I would not be able to reinstall.

Are there significant differences between these two versions?

Louis H Very nice piece of software. My Movie collection has indeed gotten out of hand and as a result i have ended up buying the same movie more than once - in the same edition!

I've looked at this before, but simply could not pass up the opportunity to pick it up at this price.

So i guess I'll be spending the weekend cataloging movies! (At least while it's raining outside.) :-)

Dan P "All My Books" is great!

I bought "All My Movies" as well but it stopped working correctly (an earlier version). The fix appeared to be paying for an upgrade which I didn't think I should have to do so I stopped using it. IMDB seems to change it's structure frequently which means lots of updates are required to maintain a proper movie library.

Diego SEO This has been probably the best catalog software for years. Unfortunately is getting old. The developer should consider current technologies like HTPC or streaming. It doesn't make much sense to keep using this program while watching the movies over a remote TV.

I also miss much better features to keep the collections updated. For example, when moving or renaming the files.

Features to import movie info should also be improved. For example when the file name does not start with the name of the movie.

Anyway, it's worth the price they are asking for and it's the better way to support development. Maybe they listen and improve the program in a near future.

This looks like the movie database to beat, esp at the BdJ price. But if I decide this is really worth the price of a pound of nice shrimp I'd use it not to inventory my (small) DVD/BluRay collection but to maintain a list of the movies I want to remember to see in the future. AFA I can see you don't have to own a movie to list it in the database.

Diego SEO All My Movies (#movie #collection #database) opinion and questions to the developer.

Dear Max,

I have been your customer for years and I consider your software one of the best of its kind but, unfortunately, I'm not using it because the lack of three essential features.

First: This is the mayor drawback to me. While it's possible to batch import as you explain to Pierre, it's not possible to automatically gather the movie details afterwards just for one reason: It's not possible to define the part of the file name to use in order to properly scrap the movie information. This could be easily accomplished if we could configure the program to not use any text before a specified separator (dots, hyphens or whatever).

So, for example, if the file names are organized like in this example:

Original movie title - Movie title in a second language. Director, year
OR just:
Original movie title, Director, year

Then, the program is not able to gather the movie information and it's necessary to perform the operation manually for every movie in the collection.

In this example, the program should be capable to "understand" that it should only query using the part before the first separator "-" AND even capture the year as well. As you know, the better format to query to IMDB is movie title (year) but users rarely have the files named using this format. I have been waiting for years and, sincerely, I don't understand why it's not been implemented. Is it so difficult? The program has new great features to collect people's information (the cast) automatically but getting movie info is not practical as it is, specially when you have hundreds of movies to classify (that it's the reason to buy a tool of this kind).

Please, tell me. Do you have plans to provide any feature to easily gather information from the movie databases using the suggested way (defining separators) or using any other procedure or should I better forget it?

Second: The gathered information and photos are overwritten when the program downloads new data from online databases so customization of the information is not possible. It would be necessary to be able to permanently set some information and allow adding more additional data from different databases if we wish.

Third: Correct me if I'm wrong but, as far as I know, It's not possible to access / share this information with media players like XBMC or using DLNA. As far as know it would only be required to write the information in a file in a compatible format that those devices can understand (xml - Video .nfo).

Max Smirnoff Diego, yes, we are going to implement smarter parsing of the file names. As well as smart rename function for the video files. One moment we should keep in mind - the program still can't download the movie details from the online databases completely automatically when it has only movie title known - it just can't select the correct movie from the search results and needs your help with this. If you have some additonal details like the Year movie was released, it becomes much easier for the program to select the correct movie from the search results.

As for the second issue - the program doesn't overwrite all the details! Some fields are filled with the automatic function only if they were empty! For example, "description" field.

Yes, XBMC and DLNA is not supported in the current version. The program can generate the movie details images for some hardware media players like Dune using menu item "Tools-Export to-Export to images..."

Michael R. Is it possible to use more than one database and to call the appropriate database with a command-line call? So e.g. you can use a separate database for different locations the films are stored in?

Is it possible to use it for your collected clips too, e.g. YouTube. And perhaps even set a link to the stored harddisk-place or intertet-place and start the clips from within AllMyMovies?

If a new version appears, will the databases still be accessible or will it be impossible to download information at the slightest change of the internet-source-format?

Do you have any idea when v7 will apear?

Max Smirnoff Michael, yes, it is possible to use several databases. You can switch them using menu item "Database-Open" or "Database-Reopen". Alternatively, you can specify the desired database file as a command line parameter when you start All My Movies.

Typically, All My Movies used for the usual movies, not the online clips. However, you may use "Trailer" link to specify the link to Youtube clip. You can open that page with one click from All My Movies. For the local video files it is better to use field named "Local path". This field is filled automatically if you add your movies with menu item "Movie-Add from file..." or "Tools-Scan drive for movies...". If the "Local path" filled with the valid video file name, the "Play" button on the toolbar become active and you can start the playback with a single mouse click.

When the online sources changes their format, we releasing an update that is adapted for the changes and All My Movies works great again :)

Android app will not be free, same as Collectorz. They too are good guys, and their apps are good, but today our offer is the best :)

Diego SEO Hello Max,

Thanks for the explanation and for your interest in improving the parsing features. As far as I know no other software is currently offering the capability to parse the online databases in such smart way so it will be a unique feature.

Renaming capabilities are very interesting to perform all these operations from within the program but are not so urgent as detecting the fields to use to gather movie details from the file names. As you say, using both the file name and the year it seems almost impossible to get wrong data so this would allow the automation of the process as well. Ideally, the program should skip the movies without results and show a list of failures to the user at the end of the process (in order to be able to introduce the information manually if required).

BTW: For those interested in renaming movie files I have good news. After years searching for a solution, I finally found an extraordinary software that, among other reaming features, allows changing the order of file name parts (recursively over an entire directory tree):

As for overwriting information, it happened to me with the custom photos that I added to some movies but I have not used the program for a long this so I guess that this feature has been improved. Thanks for letting me know.

Lastly, the players. Yes, I'm aware about the exporting feature to Dune format (only images?). I have been researching the many options and I have chosen to buy a Dune device mainly for that reason (among others, of course). Anyhow, I guess that improvements regarding media format compatibility would be greatly appreciated by your current and future customers.

Conclusion: In my opinion, this offer is a great opportunity to get this extraordinary software and start organizing your movies. I hope seeing these features implemented soon. That day, this program will beat the competition hands down.

Max Smirnoff Tazzie, we allow to activate the program on up to 3 different _own_ computers with the single license. There is no special synchronizing feature between the several installations available in the current version. Lito Question about the Android app, can it use the camera on the device to scan the barcode of the DVD/BR case and add it to the database? I am planning on getting the Windows version today, but since I don't have a barcode reader it's going to take a while to enter all my discs in (honestly dreading doing it lol). So if I can do it easier with the Android app I'll defer entering a majority of the discs till I get it ;)

Max Smirnoff Lito, current Android app can't scan the barcodes. However, you better try the trial Windows version and test how easy is to add movies by their title. We implemented the "live search" feature recently, so, when you entering the title, the program suggests you the movies to add. Give it a try, please-please-please!

Lito I already bought the windows version. Entering my Movies via Batch Barcode mode is actually not too bad (and on average better than search by title in number of characters typed :) ). 110 entries already and I only mistyped 2 or 3 barcodes :). It enters the data very logically also. I set up location of where my discs are and it auto picks the last location I had, so when I moved to a new location for discs I did one barcode set it's location, then the batch of the rest and it auto picked the last location which is very helpful. The title search is really good also, but I only used it twice since I only had a couple of BR discs that didn't have the barcode on it (I love the look of the book type cases but I threw away the little slip of paper that had the barcode already).

The only minor thing I can say against it is that in batch barcode entry mode, you shouldn't really pop up a couldn't find barcode pop up as soon as one can't be found, it should really log the error then present the box after it processes all the barcodes because after putting a a number of barcodes, I stepped away from the PC so it could get the data. When I came back I had to press ok before it went to go finish the remaining ones.

But so far this is the best movie database program I have tried. I have some other more general database type apps I tried using to catalog my movies with, but I usually stopped after 10 or 20 entries cause getting the data and covers etc was just too time consuming.

Lito If you really don't want to see the date added there are 3 HTML templates that doesn't print out the field under: view-HTML Template-Black Page and also Dune and Metallic Blue. You could also edit the templates to remove the field for the one you like.

John Terdik I just attempted to order and tried twice, I fill in all the info, I see the summary of my order, I click to submit, then it tells me something is wrong with the order but it does not tell me what the error is. It would seem reasonable that if the process is able to detect that something is wrong it would report what is wrong and not leave me totally in the dark.

Max Smirnoff Al, the transferring database is easy. You can copy the database file to some removal media (like USB flash drive) using menu item "Database-Backup..." or you can locate the database file with Windows Find tool (press Win+F keys, type *.amm and press Enter). Then copy the database file to some folder inside Documents folder on your new computer and double click to open it (All My Movies should be installed)

Tim, as Lito already wrote, you can switch to another HTML template using menu item "View-HTML template" or edit the template you want to use. The template files are placed in Program Files\AllMyMovies\moviecards folder. To delete "Date added" field you have to find and delete the string with !--#date -- shortcut in the corresponding template.html file

Current version can get movie details from IMDb, Kinopoisk.ru, OFDB.de, cinebel.be, moviemeter.nl, filmweb.pl, Filmaffinity.com.

It is possible to add the support of a dozen other online databases with the plugins, available for download here - http://www.bolidesoft.com...nload.html

I think the built-in database support for 8.x versions will remain the same, we can add more databases with the new plugins.

David Brumley I have 3 computers that I would like to have this software on; a laptop with Windows XP, a desktop with Windows 7, and another laptop with Windows 7. Do I need 3 copies of this software, or can I have one copy on all 3 computers? I am the only user; no other users in my household.

Also, I was using a software package called Griffith as a catalog for my collection. Do you have any idea if I can import any of it into your product?

Max Smirnoff David, I never seen Griffith, but if you can export your collection to MS Excel or CSV format, you can import it then to All My Movies using menu item "Tools-Import from..."

We allow to activate the program on up to 3 own computers with the same activation code, so one license is enough for your case.

Well, it has taken 25 miinutes but I guess it actually went through. I just received the confirmation email.from SWReg Digital River. I had the email I was going to send all ready and I took a last look and - poof - it appeared. It was slow but it did come through.

Software Seeker I wonder if the Android app, which at nearly 8 euros is not exactly cheap, will get an update. Both on Google Play and in the Bolidesoft forum there are mostly complaints and hardly any praise for the Android app. And now it's almost a year since the software came out - no update yet.

Max Smirnoff Samir, you can use menu item "Tools-Scan drive for movies..." to add your movie files to the database. Then you have to help the program to select the correct movie from the online search result to fill in the additional details (cast, cover image, synopsis)

Richard George I want to be able to print out a simple list of all my movies.

However, the type font (about 6 point) in the simple list report is so small you almost need a magnifying glass to read it!

If I could instead export or create a copy of the list, I would be able to increase the type font size. That's currently not possible.

The software as is is currently not usable for me.

I do hope a future version may be able to correct these issues.

Max Smirnoff Richard, our program is very flexible and almost any font size can be increased.
You can edit print templates by double clicking on their names, however, built-in editor is not user friendly.

If you want to get a simple movie list, you can export your collection to MS Excel or text formats (using menu item Tools-Export to...)

Yes, I also had v.7 (which I had purchased in August) and I grabbed this deal for the upgrade to version 8! The normal Upgrade price would be 50% OFF (OR $19.95), so I just saved $10 dollares and don't need to worry (now) about paying for another upgrade for (at LEAST) another year or so!!
I've also been using "All My Books" since last August and am VERY happy with it! I am happy that Max is enhancing the search capability for "All My Movies" and am looking forward to the new features (and/or Capabilities) that may be built into version 8!

Ennovy Why should I use this program when there is a fantastic Internet database already: http://www.imdb.com/
Make a simple list of movies you loaned out and to whom (if any).
Or keep a catalog of owned DVD's in a spreadsheet (if needed)
I don't need all the extra info about the movie(s), for that I visit IMDb.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth :)

Toeknee B I agree with Ennovy, especially if it isn't a lifetime license! $40.00 per year or more (future price increases) for software to keep an inventory of your movie collection is CRAZY, and all the extra info really isn't needed when you can easily get the info if you want/need it from http://www.imdb.com.

I'll keep doing it the way I have until I find a good software with a Lifetime license, cheap!

Atalay Tan This software is really helpful with filters, plugins and custom reporting function. I bought it before and I do not regret. My only trouble is that I can not get the support I need. I have sent an e-mail to support team earlier this year about updating the plugin for getting movie details in Turkish from www.beyazperde.com
The plugin is downloadable from the producer website by the following link but it is very old and not working http://www.bolidesoft.com...zperde.zip
I have received a reply indicating that they passed it to the plugin's developer and the update should be available soon. However, I did not get any answer in the following days despite all my reminders. I hope they provide a solution in the near future.

Max Smirnoff Rick User, if you already using some collection management software and you like it, I don't know why do you need another program for the same purpose :)
If something is wrong with your current solution, you may try All My Movies trial version first.

All My Movies works with almost any USB barcode scanner, since the majority of them just emulates the numeric key pressing.

If you mean image scanners for scanning the cover images, All My Movies works with them via TWAIN and WIA

Husker Tech I have found the convenience of scanning UPC codes well worth the money. Unlike many other software publisher on Bits, Max and Bolide Software provide top notch service - usually responding in hours. Also, from my experience, upgrade prices are usually very competitive (e.g, $14.99).

I am very pleased with my purchase of All My Movies. It is easy to use, has good graphics, does everything I need to catalog my movies and a few extras..

I have learned that most software (except Microsoft) is never finished, it is a work in progress.. All My Movies has some really nice features and I am sure you will be adding more in the future..I look forward to them..

Germain Lavoie Really interested in buying the program and iPad / Android apps. My concern is using the Android app with my Tracfone lg Sunset smartphone. That is, I have other movie catalog softwares that work with my iPads but would like to have it on the cell phone for portability sake. I have over 3200 movies and don't know if there going to be a memory issue with phone with so many movies. Tried some programs but limited me to around 1396 titles out of 3200. Noticed the Android app is a separate purchase. Any discounts for apps? Hope to get some feedback before promotion ends.

Wade Townsend This is a great program that I have been using for years and highly recommend it to anyone who is unsure if it works or not. You can even scan your movies in if you happen to own a bar code scanner, which makes adding movies a piece of cake...

RC Already have movies on your hard drive? The "Scan Drive for Movies" feature is convenient to bring your movies into the database w/o having to type in each title. This is a great price for this software, and Max is a responsive developer. I upgraded from version 8.
