in the 'Transactions' view, is it possible to sort all transactions in 'Income' or 'Expensis' by 'Date' first instead of sorting by date only within each category?
In 'Reports': when I use categories with sub- and 'sub-sub'-categories (3 levels), can I see all these categories broken down in 1 view instead of clicking me through all sub-categories?

1. You can sort transactions by any column. Switch to flat view (View settings button at the top-right) to see simple transactions list without dividing to categories, income and expenses.
2. No, reports will be improved in future versions.
3. Only one category allowed to import but it can be a sub-category, sub-sub-category and so on. Also you can rearrange created (new) categories in categories editor after importing.

Mr. Yoop:

I'm unable to do this either...(the family PRO version)....I am directly on the website (not the Bits du jour link), and when using the code, it says it's expired. And I don't see where there's alternative payment processor at the bottom. There's a choice of credit cards or Paypal (and I would be paying by credit card, Visa), but none of these work with the coupon code.

Bob S Question for developer and others using these types of programs.

Personal Finances Pro doesn't appear to connect to checking or other accounts (like Quicken or other online pkgs). Is that correct? If so, does the user have to manually enter charges? This seems like a drawback, but given the interest I'm assuming others don't find this to be a problem (and may prefer it).

Curious how others are using without the connection to checking, credit card accounts.

Software Guy The upgrade discount to family license worked, but the procedure is complicated. First, one must log in to avangate, select my products, go to personal finances pro, select the little upgrade button - you will be redirected, then enter the discount code ABF0E92E and hit the little update logo next to the code box, and the discount finally appears. then, simply continue checkout.
If you do not remember your password for avangate, or have not before logged in, you will need to create a customer account. Complicated - yes, but the upgrade is only $3.99 - a great bargain.

O I Personal Finances is exactly the app that I was looking for. I like the grouping by description, categories and family members as well as the calendar feature.

However, my two suggestions to the developer are:
1. It would be fine if there is an option to see all transactions at once, without selecting a big period.
2. Import function: Ability to add both expenses and incomes that appear as positive debit and credit columns on my bank statements. Also, an option to choose UTF-8 encoding of imported data would be great.

PG BNax FYI to potential purchasers: I had the pleasure of using this app for years. The dev team is the best. The ONLY reason it now sits abandoned is because I eventually moved to a mobile solution, allowing me to capture receipts & enter info on the spot (assorted smartphones, i.e., iPhone to Droid X). Still, I miss this app, as it is as powerful/intuitive as it is flexible, and among the smoothest apps, operationally speaking, I've been privileged to use. Paid full price back in the day, and still consider it a fantastic bang-for-the-bucks investment. Short version: ya can't go wrong with this purchase, especially given the attentive developer.

Awesome software I have to say. Gives me freedom to operate it the way I
like. Only, it would have been better if you could develop 'stand
alone' notes section where I can jot down anything, budgetwise or not,
so it will not tie to any date or transaction. I hope to see this
feature in the next update. I think the update is quite slow this year.

Zsolt Bisztran Many features are missing.and the developer has never answered my emails about questions or ideas. I found yesterday a bug (or meaningless thing) about scheduled transactions but unfortunately there is no point in sending it to them...

Just for example:
- There is no quick way to clear a transaction
- There is no real search (no filter, only jumping)
- You can make useful expense or income trees, but navigaton is hard, there is just an "expand all - collapse all) possibility.
- In reports you can dig to the transaction level, but that is ugly and useless (important columns missing)
- Reports periods are limited.
- There is no template for reports, you have to click a lot if you want to show your favorite report again.
- and so forth...

But, honestly, this is the best looking finance software I have ever seen! So I'm really sad about slow developing and the lack of features and support.

Unfortunately I'm almost sure the developer won't read this at all.

Antoine I have been using this software for a while now and I am very pleased about it.
First it is very good looking and have rich features.
Personnaly, I choosed it mainly because of the possibility to attach files to a transaction (to handle my receipts).
Further, contrary to what I read in a previous post, Alex (the developper) is very accessible and managed to correct a bug (in QIF import) I had submitted him, in few days.
So I recommend to you all this software.

1. I really love PFP since I found the trial in the web, but I could not afford it yet. So many thanks to Alsex SW and BDJ for this great offer. I am buying.

2. That´s really true, what Zsolt Bisztran says. He took the words right of my mouth. I also miss all these features very much ! Software should be timesaving and some very important options in "Personal Finances Pro" are still time robbing instead. So I also please the developers (PFP still is my fave) to tune/adjust the codes slightly, so that we can use our precious life time for more fruitful activities than tedious and unnecessary "clickery". Life is short anyway, and software authors have big power to lengthen and improve our poor lifes.

- improvement of the navigation
- improvement of the reports
- unlimited reports periods
- templates for reports, one-click report

Yeah, I also like the look of PFP ! Very attractive.

Michael Fritz I once asked a question, too, however, I never got an answer back from the devs. As far as I remember I've asked about how to clear the database, without having to enter all categories again.

Unfortunately either the devs don't know how to answer properly or they don't care about customers at all.

Guess this won't change with this discount offer here. Sadly...

_*_ I bought this program last time it was offered here, and think it is a very nice program. It has one of the most pleasing Calendars to look at of any program I have used. Not always the easiest to use, but it sure looks nice doing it. Thanks for the program and the work it must have taken to make it happen.

There are some things I would like to see changed; I will list only three below.

1. I would really like to see is the ability to add transactions in-line without having to open a transaction window.

2. The ability to organize all column headings as desired. I would really like to be able to place the Date column in the first row, and move description to the right.

3. On the Overview screen have the Calendar display.

Oh, one more, more little icons please! :o)

Albert C. Hi. I trialed the program this afternoon and found something odd. Even though I configured two Euro accounts, in the front page, the resumee of all the accounts remains "USD". Is it possible to make USD disappear from the program? Would be quite useful for non US citizens. Thanks! ^_^

_*_ Albert C. you can "Hide" any currency you like. Simply click on the Currency Icon at the top of the screen; then highlight the currency you wish to work with, choose "Edit" and check the "Hide" button, click OK and you are all set.
You can also fiddle with other setting there as well.

42gr I really like the fact the program is SIMPLE.

Under the Amount - why does it show $2,000.00 as 2 000,00 - why is a comma used in place of a period before the Cents? Also $75.00 shows as 75,00 with a comma before the Cents.

What's up with the commas instead of using periods where a period is used in the real world when it comes to dollars and cents?

EDIT: Never mind - I downloaded the Trial and found the Amounts can be set with the Commas and Periods where they should go (for the USA anyway).

Damn confusing!

I am trying to work out whether the application can handle multiple currencies
eg. Euro & AUD or AUD & GBP.

A small low-price application like this is unlikely to be able anything else but your local single currency transactions.

Any suggestions on this?

Peter Laszlo In GENERAL context, thanks to the illogical expressions within the English language, PAYEE would normally refer to the recipient of a payment. These days it is normally used in internet banking to set up persons or companies who will be paid via an internet bank transfer. I have been playing around with the trial version, but so far I have not come across the payee function.
What I do need is to be able to set up multiple currencies within one database but have not been able to do so. For people who are situated outside their native countries the use of multiple currencies is a requirement. For example, I have AUD but a number of transactions are paid in Euro and some are paid in AUD or USD and both currencies would need to appear in the accounts and budgets.
Perhaps this may not be possible.

Peter Laszlo I managed to set up multiple currencies in one accounts, but the whole system is a little convoluted, but what I have done seems to work.
There seems To be a fundamental problem with the accounting expressions. For example, "TOTAL" is used where "BALANCE" should be used. the expressions INTERVAL, TARGET, FACT etc. are not normal accounting terms. This may be a problem for non-English speakers or European jurisdictions, so perhaps there is no way that an accounting type software which suits ALL users and most countries can be made usable.
Perhaps there could be a version for the U.K. U.S. Australia, N.Z. and another version for Europe. This MAY be only a question of vocabulary.

I would now consider buying it, but the accounting expressions need to be correct.

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted by 40%."

I have been interested in this product but the annual payments after the initial 12 months has killed it for me, but now there is even more concern.

The comment from Peter Gabriel aroused my curiosity, so I went to look at the Forum the comment referenced. I believe his point was an important one, and so were the other user's comments on that forum article. There had been no development on the software since 2015, and your response in the forum was that you were working an on Android edition. Sure, but if you go off developing an Android edition during those 12 months, you are taking advantage of your user's annual investment thinking that you are working on the software they purchased.

One user mentioned that they purchased yearly updates, and noticed that for 2015-2016, they had basically paid for absolutely nothing (no updates because you were off doing other things). That is the problem with a predetermined time for included updates. The user is putting their trust in you the developer that you will working on improving the software, but instead you were off expanding your software product range.

Some users pointed out defects in the desktop software they were hoping to be fixed soon. Since there have been 4 updates since 2015, hopefully some of those issues have been fixed. Due to your forum having many more requests, it is not easy to know how much work you have left to do just for the desktop edition.

It looks like the Android/iPhone editions are available finally, but the forum also has requests for updates for them as well, so users have no guarantee how much time you will spend on the desktop edition, and hopefully not repeating the debacle of the previous update gap.

Others asked when version 6 would come out, and your response was early next year. That seems to have implied early 2018 at the latest, and users were starting to be more concerned as 2017 came to an end without a hint as to what version 6 would entail. Even worse, here we are 6 months into 2018, and the last update was version 5.13 less than a month ago (April 2018). Also, it is still not clear what ideas you have in mind for version 6, and how drastically it will be from the current 5.x series.

I hope you are are not using Bitsdujour potential purchases to fund your development of version 6.

Even though some updates have been made, the forum is still filled with requests for fixes and request for consideration of features (41 pages in total). One problem with your forum is that it does group together all types of entries, bugs, requests/suggestions, great review comments, etc., such that it is not clear how many are issues that still remain to be resolved. In all fairness, I believe some of the Requests that are marked "Under Consideration" might be implemented already, and it would be great if you were to go through those that go back 5 years or so, and see if you can update their status to "Answered" or at least give them some immediate consideration. It might give you a better view of what needs to be done to cut down on the number of issues.

If there is anything that might help you get some serious sales from this offer, it might be to at least ensure that all purchasers will have their year of updates start when version 6 comes out. Otherwise, if you cannot commit to a lifetime upgrade policy at a respectful price, I think you are opening yourself up to the possibility of a competing product from a serious competitor. You are at a point where your product has the possibility of being the top contender in this field. A lifetime upgrade policy could make your product difficult to compete with, and leave only those that can beat your price to compete against you.

If you had lifetime updates at the current discounted price, I would have bought it, and I am sure others would have as well. I (and others) have had too many bad experiences of software wanting to collect an annual fee but for so little of a gain that it simply is not worth it. Users have no guarantee how you will spend your time in the next 12 months, and that makes it a bum deal to begin with.

_*_ @Gary Smith, I have purchased this software on a number of occasions from Bits as well as direct upgrades (personal, corporate, professional...names have changed over the years). Bought the first time in 2010.

I would say it is good financial software. Is it everything I would like, absolutely not, but it does the job with a bit of style.

Regarding the 12 month update policy. I did purchase it one time, and got bitten by zero updates for that year of paid coverage. Once bitten, twice shy.

Since then, I have purposed to only purchase this software though Bits, and only when there is a significant update.

I was unaware of all the posts since I do not go out and read them, but simple personal experience has taught me to wait, and only buy here when it is discounted, and worth the purchase.

Will I purchase again, absolutely, but likely only at version 6 once on sale here at Bits.

From other user's comments, this product is liked by many. So much, that they are anxious to see improvement, new features, and bug fixes. Having a two year lull had to be a low for the software and its users. I hope that never happens again.

I believe this software has the potential to be the best of its kind. There is getting to be more competition in this area, but most are not well known. If a competitor can sustain itself to the point of having a similar product, or one of the larger companies step up their game, only then would this program have a real threat.

One of the forum posts was from a user that had used Microsoft Money, and when that got dropped by Microsoft, he searched for the best replacement. He tried several that could not cut it, and finally settled on this program. Like you he did not think it was the ultimate solution, but it was the best he had found. That was a glowing review in my opinion. He had a few wish list items, as most users will have on any software they use often.

The developer has a tough road ahead of him. Working alone, he had already accomplished a lot. He has created a product that is used by many people from all parts of the world, and that in itself has to be a miraculous achievement when it comes to finances. There are apparently some glitches in that area from what I read, but nevertheless, I was impressed that he was getting there.

I hope the developer can get to the point of having some extra help, or getting to that point where everything is working smoothly, requiring fewer updates. I totally understand his idea of going it alone for as long as he can. I actually hope he can do it without outside help. I wish him the best of sailing with his product.

I hope he has learned an important lesson when it comes ignoring customers that are paying an annual fee. As long he does shows continuous improvement, he may get there.

If the product had lifetime upgrades, or if he would offer version 6 to Bitsdujour customers, I would gamble on it.

Some expenses and bank accounts are in one currency, some expenses are in another currency.

CFGuy Hi - I am a current Quicken® User, bust always on the look-out for other financial apps to use in tandem. Question: does the "Professional" version of this program allow the automatic download of bank and credit card transactions (as in Quicken®), or must all transactions be entered manually? i renew my old license - did not bought the upgrade yet - so i bought the full version again.

BUT i cant buy via bitsdujour with Paypal - it rejects the payment via Paypal.
I think it has something to do with the renew license button - which you have to disable - this one is missing via the BDJ Store.

Bought it at the devs website via coupon code an uncheck this above mentionend renew box button.

Then the payment via PP works correctly.

BTW: the "renew" license button is missleading too because some people will think this software is a abonement like Adobe CC subscription.

Its only that you will get free updates for next 12 month. The software will works "forever".

Good software and good iphone app too!

Peter Laszlo ICustom icons are not a matter of life or death, I just purchased the software after a very short "play" with it.
I guess that it is now a learning curve to see what it can do, the way I want it to happen. This would be the case with any financial software.

Bill Sech I used this program for a year. It was reliable. Transaction filling was easy and it's memory of previous transactions was good. The ability to attach files to a transaction is by link only, so I learned whatever folder on my pc they were in had to stay that way without changing it or I might have to do the attachments all over because the links were broken. Also I wish the accounts had a formal register with this program. To get a list of transactions for one account I remember I had to use the search feature or some such work-around. Other than that it never let me down.

ciprian I like the Pc version. What I am missing out on Android one is the calendar view and ability to edit transactions from this set up. This shouldn't be about Android, but this is the single feature that makes me still think about it, as a big selling point is the synchronization feature to me. Any plans for this in the feature? HJ User Your website states that the program can "sync date across multiple devices". I have a Windows desktop and laptop and an ipad and iphone. Will this program sync across all of these devices? If so, do I have to purchase more than one version? If so, what will the cost be?

Thank you for your reply. It was good news to hear that extending this application to an iphone or ipad only costs $4.00. What is not clear is whether the ipad functionality is the same as the PC functionality. In short, once I set up the program on my PC and share the data via dropbox, and I install the app on my ipad, will I be able to do all entry and management functions on my ipad that I can do on my PC. Or is the ipad version a stripped down data review only application?

I have attempted to get this resolved through 2Checkout.com and Alzex Software but so far, I do not have any indication that it will no longer happen. In the meantime, anyone that purchased this software a year ago has probably already been charged automatically for a "subscription" and may not realize it. It would have happened on the 12th (one year after your purchase on the 13th). This can easily happen when a different person is in charge of paying bills but might not know the details of the original purchase, or not notice the warning e-mail.

Alzex Software is the developer but 2Checkout.com is the payment processor. 2Checkout.com is the same as Avangate.

Even though the word "subscription" does not appear anywhere in this promotion, nor on the developer's website, in one year after your purchase, 2Checkout.com will attempt to charge your credit card to renew your "subscription." You will receive an e-mail first alerting it that it will happen.

I purchased the software one year ago when it was offered on 2019-07-13. Here is what I received shortly before the one-year period:

I believe there was a checkbox. I'll investigate this issue.


Since that response, I have not heard anything that indicates there has been a change. That means that anyone that purchased on 2019-07-13 will have already been charged by now unless they manually requested that it not be renewed. If you choose to pay annual renewals, it should be your choice, not 2Checkout.com or Alzex Software's choice.

Can BitsDuJour.com please help ensure this has ended, and anyone being automatically charged without their knowledge one year after purchase is being refunded?
