What are people saying about Amethyst 2 Ultimate

Richard Andersen Will this version work with VS 2008 / VS 2013 (when released)?

Jonathan Keener Is there a simple way to either connect directly to a Flash Builder Workspace (So you could use either Amethyst or Flash Builder) or import and entire workspace into Amethyst? I've got a fairly large workspace with 30+ interrelated projects in it.

Huw Collingbourne This version does not work with VS2008. We will release a new version for VS2013 which will be a free upgrade and will work with the VS2012 license key.

Huw Collingbourne Yes, you can use the Amethyst project importer to import a FlashBuilder w/s. No changes are made to the FB files or any other file so you can continue to work in both FB and Amethyst if you want. There a 'sync' option in Amethyst that will synchronize the Amethyst project file to the disk state if you add any files, etc. so you should not need to re-import if you add new files in FB.

Jonathan Keener Is there support for the latest Apache Flex 4.10 SDK? I noticed when importing a workspace that it asks for the SDK version and only lists up to 4.5. I'm also getting an import error trying to convert my workspace. (It imported 2 of my 37 project folders) Is there any documentation regarding working through conversion issues? Obviously not being able to import my workspace impact my decision on whether to make a purchase or not.

Huw Collingbourne We haven't explicitly tested Apache Flex 4.10, but 4.9 works and I don't think that there are significant differences between 4.9 and 4.10.

On import errors, there is a log displayed which show what the importer is trying to do. What sort of errors are you getting?

Huw Collingbourne Incidentally, we have many video tutorials - those specificaly for Amethyst 2's new features are here: http://www.youtube.com/pl...RCfkzb5Hsg

Most of the tutorials on general features of v 1 still apply to v 2. These are listede here: http://www.sapphiresteel....ials-index

Jonathan Keener As for 4.10, I'm not thinking that is the problem. Was just curious as it only listed up to 4.5 and wasn't sure the reason. 4.10 is the first version to actually have some differencesas they added some new spark components, although I'm not using any of them yet.

As for the errors, here's what I'm seeing:

I received a warning like this on the first project:

Cannot remove library 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\sdks\4.6.0\frameworks\libs\flex.swc'

This one does complete the import.

And on another I got this:

Reading the library properties file 'D:\Flex410\APPTEST_MobileComponentTester_MobileApp\.flexLibProperties'
The properties file 'D:\Flex410\APPTEST_MobileComponentTester_MobileApp\.flexLibProperties' does not exist
Project name is 'APPTEST_MobileComponentTester_MobileApp'
Project type set to AIR
Conversion/import of project 'APPTEST_MobileComponentTester_MobileApp' failed. The error was 'The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)'
at EnvDTE80.Solution2.GetProjectTemplate(String TemplateName, String Language)
at SapphireSteel.Amethyst.ImportOrConvertWizard.ConvertProject(String destinationFolder)
An exception 'The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)' occurred when importing or converting project. The project was not imported or converted
Import/convert failed: wizard did not return successfully
2 project(s) have been converted/imported with 3 errors, 2 warnings and 19 files added to the solution

Huw Collingbourne I'm pretty sure that Apache Flex 4.10 is ok but you may need to add the new spark libraries by hand to the libraries in the Solution Explorer.

The warning is because the 4.6.0 flex.swc is being referenced in the FB config files (I think) ... possibly left over from an earlier version. I think this is harmless.

Looks like a bug in the importer. I think it's trying to find an AIR Mobile import template and one doesn't exist. We'll have to fix that as a bug fix release (obviously not today). So the only way round that would be to create a new project of the correct type and 'sync' the existing files into the project or add the files manually.

Jonathan Keener FYI: I'm excluded the AIR Mobile apps from my import, but I am getting a similar error on regular AIR (Non-Mobile) apps also.

Reading the library properties file 'D:\Flex410\App_SalesforceDataExtractor_AirApp\.flexLibProperties'
The properties file 'D:\Flex410\App_SalesforceDataExtractor_AirApp\.flexLibProperties' does not exist

Huw Collingbourne Which drive have you installed Visual Studio on? (i.e is it on the C drive?)

Jonathan Keener Yes, Visual Studio is on C in the default path.

Huw Collingbourne In that case, it looks like we are missing the generic AIR template. I think it's a packaging issue which seems to have got in this this release (2.0.3). We'll fix it in the near future.
