What are people saying about Amigabit Disk Defrag

Terry Lee Not any sense for me, because I use SSD disk!

Ralf Krueger I`ll give it a try.

Danny But what is this now so special to? Defragmentation tools can be found mostly in the utility software that works just as well!
May 18 2013 at 12:16pm Copy Link
DrTeeth All defrag tools, bar one, do not give any prefetch optimisations any special treatment so they can undo them. The one that does not is PerfectDisk.
May 19 2013 at 4:54am Copy Link
Terry Lee It's SUCK! I got it anyway even I've SSD-disk my both two OS's Win7Pro and Win8Pro. No any PerfectDisk so far that! Not
I've else some magnetig disk-Drives, but still not recomment to anyone!

DrTeeth @ Terry

Sorry but I do not understand you comment at all.

If you don't need a product, don't rubbish it for that reason alone.
May 19 2013 at 7:01am Copy Link
VLM DrTeeth - Are you saying that PerfectDisk DOES optimize for prefetch optimization? That's been my impression, as a long-time PerfectDisk user.
May 19 2013 at 7:10am Copy Link
DrTeeth @ VLM

That is correct. PD also gives the user the ability to choose how the prefetch info is used. Personally, I let PD deal with both boot and application traces (after manually updating the layout.ini file).
May 19 2013 at 7:38am Copy Link
Danny @DrTeeth,

So all software tools from Raxco is the best?
May 19 2013 at 8:28am Copy Link
VLM DrTeeth - Thanks, this confirms my own impression. I also believe that PerfectDisk handles SSDs constructively, which cannot be said of other defrag products of which I am aware.

Would you be willing to share how you modify the layout.ini file?
May 19 2013 at 9:01am Copy Link
DrTeeth Taken to forum ( title 'prefetch') as OT.
May 19 2013 at 9:13am Copy Link
Douglas Huddle Manually "optimizing" prefetch is mostly a waste of time and a gimmick to sell a utility program. Windows does a great job of refreshing (optimizing) prefetch on its own based upon the actual customer use of programs.
May 19 2013 at 11:43am Copy Link
Danny @Douglas Huddle,

Sorry, but I do not understand you!
May 19 2013 at 11:51am Copy Link
Douglas Huddle Danny, don't get fooled by tools that claim to improve performance by "optimizing" prefetch. PerfectDisk is a great defrag utility but not because it does anything with prefetch.
May 19 2013 at 12:16pm Copy Link
Danny @Douglas Huddle,

Okay, that's clearer!I

Get the impression that Amigabit Disk Defrag is nothing but submitted by Auslogics Disk Defrag. This I discovered by removing a trial version with Revo Uninstaller Pro!
May 19 2013 at 12:40pm Copy Link
DrTeeth @ Douglas

It is not a waste of time and a gimmick. If I use a program that actually uses that prefetch data, which included Windows defrag, I want it up to date do that is why I do it. Anything *above* the layout.ini has NOT been written to it and will be ignored (most recent updates at the top). Manual and automatic updates do the same thing. Time for more research mate :-).

The reason why PD is so good is that gives the user the option how to handle the prefetch info. MSoft places the data in the middle of the disk and PD places in the faster outer cylinders.

Many programs ignore the prefetch info thereby de-optimising the optimizations until the next schduled run of the Windows defragger.

What is the date on your NTOSBOOT line in the prefetch folder? any more than 3 days old and it is corrupted and ineffective.
May 19 2013 at 12:41pm Copy Link
VLM DrTeeth - Thank you!
May 19 2013 at 1:11pm Copy Link
Douglas Huddle last run less than 18 hours ago (when the system last booted of course). Where in the world did you get the idea that it would be corrupted? Wow.

I don't believe I have such program on my computer that ignores prefetch. I am quite confident that I don't have a program with that capability.

If you want to mess with the prefetch files, have fun. Microsoft has addresses this so many times but the myths and legends just keep coming up again and again. If you have a computer running a very specific program all the time, it is possible to save a few milliseconds on program startup by editing the prefetch file to remove all other entries; however, it is in those scenarios that the program is launched once and left on so saving a few milliseconds on one startup is meaningless to most people.

Spending time on the prefetch process is like adjusting the value for SecondLevelDataCache. But have fun doing it.
May 19 2013 at 1:41pm Copy Link
DrTeeth @ Douglas

I have come across many systems in which the NTOSBOOT trace is MONTHS or YEARS old. One has to delete the old one before a new and uncorrupted one can take over and in turn become updated as appropriate.

All I am doing is forcing an update of the prefetch layout.ini file in the same way that it happens before windows' programmed defrag every three days. I am not doing anything else at all in the prefetch folder. You are reading too much into my posts and your lack of understanding shows.

loving thesixties the page normally brings up facebook sign-in when I click on the button to get the download, but the little dial just rotates endlessly and nothing happens, so something is wrong. I tried signing in to BDJ to see if that helped, but it did not, so what do I do now? If I can't access the download file that way, is there any other way?

Terry Lee @DrTeeth

I'm sorry my comment ;(
don't need a product, but I don't rubbish it for that reason any longer.
I've uninstalled it already! Maybe it's still usefull for someone :)

Constantin Florea @loving thesixties - In cases like this we would advise you to clear your browser cache and use either Mozilla FireFox or Google Chrome to purchase. Unfortunately at the moment this promotion has ended almost 1.5 hours ago.

Julian Hadlow Does this do offline defrag? I.e. pagefile etc?
Oct 31 2013 at 5:29am Copy Link
MJ W This is the first time I remember that after clicking the get now button that a whole lot of disk activity seems to go on. Does anyone know if this offer is attempting to grab system information from your computer, and if so why? I might not even install the software after downloading, so what is going on with the disk activity? Is this an attempt to read my system and incorporate data into the download? If so, this is simply far too much and I may have to say good by to Bits.

Roger Thomasson @MJ W

When I click the "Get It For Free" button the load is instantaneous. I'm guessing there is some kind browser incompatibility on your end. Are you running any browser extensions or plugins?

Please shoot me an email with details.

Goldenbarstewart Downloaded and installed - after running defrag, caused all kinds of problems with my win 7 x64 installation - windows freezing and windows update failing to respond - uninstalled and all returned to normal (hopefully)

Bill Sech When I used it, the Amigabit defragmenter worked best is I used it in the old way of defragmenting. That is, it worked best for me when I planned an exclusive dedicated time to defragment wherein I closed down most of my other programs and let amigabit do it's thing. It defragments nicely under those conditions. However if I have programs open and want to use my computer then its not so good. the computer performance seemed to be somewhat bogged down while Amigabit was running. Plus my program EPIM which is a personal information manager would crash on opening if Amigabit was running. Also if EPIM was running and a scheduled Amigabit defrag came on then the EPIM would crash on close and be locked up in general until I closed Amigabit. This I think would cause the EPIM database to corrupt, sometimes permanently. However Amigabit by itself with most other programs closed worked, not the quickest, however nicely.

Rich OBrien Amigabit Disk Defrag is not free. This is a two week trial then you are told you must pay. Amigabit Disk Defrag pretends to defrag a drive in a few seconds. Good trick but after it is done, view the drive with a real defrag program such as MST Defrag, or Auslogics Disk Defrag or the defrag program within Puran Utilities, and you'll see your drive has not actually been defragged. I immediately tried to uninstall this software but its uninstall.exe fails to work. Fortunately, because of BitsDuJour, I know about and use Revo Uninstaller. It did a Forced Uninstall and helped me delete 86 files I would have otherwise had a hard time finding and deleting. I wouldn't recommend Amigabit Disk Defrag to anyone.
