Virus Scan for AquaSnap

John H I tried the freeware version years ago. It was fun but I did not adopt it.
Now with a 40 inch an 55 inch screen where multiple open windows are actually readable, this just might become essential.

What can this do with multiple screens?

Cheers!

Nurgo Hi John, multiple monitors setups are fully supported by all the AquaSnap features, and several keyboard shortcuts are dedicated to multi monitor support.

CC User Hi,
When I double click on the edge of a window to do a stretch, the window stretches to the edge of the monitor screen, instead of stopping when it hits the edge of an adjacent window.

Is this the intended behavior?

If 2 windows are side by side, I expect 1 window to be stopped by the side of the neighboring window when stretched.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks!

Nurgo Hi, yes, this is the expected behaviour, but your idea is great, I will add this feature in a future version.

Bertie Brummel Looks interesting. However, I can't find any concrete details about
nurgo software.com

No postal address, no fon #. There's no impressum on their website (should be obligatory for commercial websites, n'est-ce-pas?
whois.com shows name and country of the registrar at least.

Such a lack of information does not increase a user's confidence.

Eliezer User I've been using the free version of Aquasnap for the last 3 weeks based upon this thread on Reddit, and I have to say I've been liking it a lot, compared to the alternatives. Definitely picking up pro license. http://www.reddit.com/r/w...r_windows/

I do have one question though. On the website, it says the license is good for one computer, but on this site, under "Fine Print", it says the license is good for one computer and one laptop.

As I HAVE a computer and a laptop, is one license good for both?

Jan 28 2015 at 5:23am Copy Link

Cory Roberts Software works great! Just two suggestions.

1. I accidentally opened Aquasnap when one was already running. Even though I quit one, it was totally non-functional until I quit the second one and restarted it. Maybe add some code to prevent two running at the same time?

2. Using the free version as a trial version has one weakness - you can't legally trial it on a work computer. Maybe add something to the terms that allows each user a time period of 30 days to use the free version in a commercial context?

Thanks! Seems like a great piece of software.

Bertie Brummel There are more curiosities in AquaSnap:

Trying to install the software on a Win 7 Ultimate x64 system, it suggests

C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\Easy-WebPrint EX\

as target folder on my PC! Installation cancelled.....

I haven't seen something similar in 26 years of computing :-O

I then tried it on a Win 8.1 x64 machine and had a slightly better, but nevertheless surprising result:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\AquaSnap Pro\"

was suggested here.

The FAQ on Nurgo Soft's web site states:

"AquaSnap has a true native support for 64-bit platforms, but the 32-bit and 64-bit versions are distributed together in the same installation package."

Why the heck does it install to the default directory for 32-bit software then??

The next gag: If you right-click on AquaSnap's icon in systray and then select "Help" you should not expect to see a manual or something similar opened. Instead, your browser starts and displays the developer''s website with a very thin FAQ.

That's insufficient, even for a low-priced software IMHO.

Jan 28 2015 at 8:31am Copy Link

1

Cory Roberts @Bertie: If you'd look in the installation folder, that would have answered your question. Aquasnap installs BOTH the 32-bit and 64-bit version. The updater and configuration both are only 32-bit but the actual software can be 32-bit or 64-bit. Why would you want the app to install itself in two locations?

Also if you opened the configuration box for the app, it has numerous tips and illustrations for the various functions of the app. I much prefer that to a boring manual and was able to figure out all the functions of the app from that.

Jan 28 2015 at 8:43am Copy Link

0

Bertie Brummel @ Cory: Thanks, but your input

a) doesn't explain why the installer suggests a completely weird target folder
on the Win 7 PC

b) is incorrect, At least for my machine Win 8.1 machine. There's no AquaSnap
dir under Program Files (or the corresponding folder for my localised
Windows version)

c) Users have different habits and I'm not a "try-and-error" fan :-)
. Meanwhile I saw the "settings" option, which certainly helps to understand how the software works. Again, you won't find any explanation for the problems I described in my previous post there.

Jan 28 2015 at 8:58am Copy Link

0

Nurgo @Bertie The default installation directory is provided by your system and does not depend upon AquaSnap.
It seems that you installed a Canon software which corrupted a registry key on your system, this problem is well known by Canon and is not caused by AquaSnap. This link could interest you:
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=68227

Yes, AquaSnap has a true native 64 bits support, but it contains a some 32 bits code which is needed to interact your 32 bits applications, this is why it is installed in "Program Files (x86)".

Nurgo Software - Jan 28 2015 at 9:01am Copy Link

1

Bertie Brummel @ Nurgo:

Thanks for your explanations and the link, I'll have a closer look at this. By the way: The same Canon apps are used on the Win 8.1 machine.

As for the default installation folder: It may avoid some customer confusion
if you'd clarify this in the FAQ or even better a readme-file displayed when the installer starts.

@Corry: Sorry, I missunderstood you re. the installation folder. Guess you'll admit that it is a bit surprising to find a x64-exe under Program Files (x86)
:-)

The main features added by this version are: the multi-monitor support, the ability to assign additional functions to the clickable elements of window frames (we call this feature "mouse shortcuts"), the possibility to move and resize several windows at once (we call this feature "AquaGlue"), a more advanced "magnetic" effect, and the possibility to define keyboard shortcuts for power management (shutdown, restart, log off, sleep, hibernate).

I already own two licenses of AquaSnap, and I am considering purchase two more today.

But I have some questions:

-I wonder if the licensed are tied to the email account and if there is any way to recover them in case of lost.

-Is there any way to check which license was activated in a computer apart from reading the "AquaSnap.cle" of each computer? Maybe an online user account. I could end using the same license code in my computers by mistake.

-Apart from the volume discount during the purchase. Is there any extra discount for user who already purchased AquaSnap in the past?

2) No, there is no other way to check if AquaSnap is registered on a computer. The license is not tied to an online account.

Yes, you can for example define a mouse shortcut to move the window to the monitor on the right when you right-click on its title bar while pressing Ctrl, and another one to move the window to the monitor on the left when you left-click on its title bar while pressing Ctrl. It’s just an example, you can use other mouse buttons (AquaSnap recognize up to 5 mouse buttons + the scroll wheel), other modifier keys (Alt, Shift, Win) and other clickable areas of the window (window borders, corners, minimize/maximize/close buttons, etc.).

Trying to manage a huge 140 cm monitor.

2 Requests:
1-
Hot keys
Shift+Ctl+Win+Alt+ key does not work for my hand and special keyboard layout.

Please let us select our own hot key combination. Many of my common hot keys are set up so it is important for me to select my own.

2-
Half screen snaps still need to be stretched to 3/4 or maybe 5/8 screen width to be readable without side scrolling. The resize functions may work but require the ergonomically impossible key combination to work. ..... How about incorporating the scroll wheel with and easy hot key to resize the frame up or down.
