What are people saying about TotalMedia Theatre 6

Guy Good I have a question about TotalMedia Theatre 5.

Someday I would like to buy a HTPC, but I don't know when that will happen. The Policy tab on this site says TotalMedia Theatre 5 may be used indefinitely. If the user chooses not to upgrade to a future version of the software, will it still be able to watch the latest Blu-ray discs? I believe I read the Blu-ray discs contain different encryption schemes, so I wanted to know if I purchased this version would it still be able to play new Blu-ray discs?

I understand the user wouldn't get the new features without upgrading which is understandable. If I buy the software today and leave it on the shelf for awhile, it wouldn't be as useful if it can't play new Blu-ray discs.

Can you please explain how this would work?

Brian W @ Guy Good. Unless you plan to build your HTPC in the next few months you are better off waiting. WHY? well I get emails from Arcsoft, the maker of this software and about once every month month & half they offer a 25-30% code for their software. Then on some holidays they offer as high as 40% (so far). Making there product even cheaper than this deal ($60).

Plus, in the past (not now) Tiger Direct (the only store they seem to have a software deal with at this point in time (last version TMT3 had lots of vendors and lots of deals, but anyway it was $59.99 there for the longest time.

So as it sounds like you aren't planning to build one soon, better to wait. Sign up for Arcsofts emails if you like so that they send you the codes periodically.

Big fan of Bits Dijour, it's too bad that Arcsoft didn't even match their own prices. Other software makers really dig deap sometimes for deals here. 40-50% off would have been something really exciting.

As to your other question...and yet another reason to WAIT. Sony did not finalize the standards for Blu-ray. It began licensing it and AFAIK, they still haven't completed this (unlike DVDs which had a finalized standard prior to players release. Ever remember a DVD from the store that wouldn't play?? NOPE!
The issue is usually addressed in the firmware of the hardware but no reason to risk it.

*Wow just tried logging into my account that I made when I purchased (HD Sentinel Pro) and it's saying it doesn't exist. Try to have it send me my password and it gave an error like the account was deleted.

Guy Good @ Brian W

Thank you for the great suggestion. I don't know when I'll be able to afford a HTPC, so your advice is much appreciated.
