Charlotte Sinclaire Because I've been looking for a while for a program that would help me more with organization than with photo editing (I'm a graphic designer and already have all the photo editing tools I need), I've downloaded this program to try out those features specifically.

I haven't had time to check out all the features as yet, but I can already see that it is going to help a lot with organizing. For example, I was very pleased to see that there is a feature to move a file -- i.e., save it in a different folder and remove it from its current one, in one step -- whenever you are ready. I also like the quick entry for titles and tags. If I had to chase around some off-side form instead of having all entry points readily available right with the photo, I know I would never get this done.

One by one, I should be able to get my photos organized for the first time in years. I'm very excited to find this software. Thanks much!

Make sure it is able to catalogue ALL your images before deciding to buy. My copy crashes when trying to load loads of images.

Stefan Hauber Checking a PhotoCommander's history page (http://www.software112.co...story.html) the last two februarys (2010/2011) were the months, when a new version of PhotoCommander was released.

So, I suppose PhotoCommander 10 is about to be released in a near future.

1) Will todays today's buyers get a free upgrade to v10?

2) In the policy tab you say the license is a user-license. But also that transfer is not allowed to another owned computer. How does this fit together? (What happens if the computer I licensed PhotoCommander to get's defect? Can the license really not be transfered to another one?)

3) When doing an upgrade on your homepage, this also costs 9,99$ (as the full release today). Is such an upgrade-price valid for all versions of PhotoCommander or just the latest release?

Louis H Stefan... I can't directly answer your question, but as a long time user of Ashampoo's software, I am currently at a level where when I upgrade or purchase a new product I get an additional 60% off. This is one of the nice extras users get for purchasing other products by Ashampoo. So for me to get the upgrade for this product my final cost is $3.99! That is 60% off the current upgrade price of $9.99.

I am very satisfied with the products that I have purchased over the years from Ashampoo, and even more satisfied with the level of customer service I have received over that same time period.

I've never had a situation in which a new version came out less than a month after making a purchase, but I have always been offered very nice discounts to upgrade. And in addition I have received emails alerting me when a new version is due to come out. I have not, as of today, received any notification that Version 10 is due out soon.

As a user since version 6 I would say that if you are looking to this program for its editing capabilities, I would suggest you look elsewhere. For watermarking, specifically, it offers very minimal function. Just slightly less than it's sibling Photo Optimizer 4. It is not user friendly for watermarking. It offers a choice of location of the watermark and the option to load the image you wish to use for the watermark, but no control over transparency or any other aspects. In other words, if you design an image for your watermark to appear exactly as you want it to look, save it as an image, you can then tell this program to use it as a watermark. You have to create the watermark image, however, elsewhere.

Photo Optimizer 4, this programs sibling, lets you enter a choice of an image or text, and a 9 quadrant grid to choose where to place it. But no control over appearance - such as transparency. Hopefully with version 10 - whenever it does appear - they will expand the user options for watermarks. Perhaps the vendor will be able to clarify what, if any, changes are coming in this area in the future.

Speaking of updates and new versions - Ashampoo is definitely a company that is actively improving their products. And upgrades to new versions, as I mentioned above, have always been very reasonably priced.

You have touched upon the feature that keeps me using this program. Where it does offer advantages for me is in the organizational side of things. Like you, for editing I have other programs with far more extensive editing tools.

Ken Harrell I would really appreciate advice concerning what software to use for simply transferring photos and videos from our cameras, iPhones and SD cards directly into the month / date folder they were taken... Don't need editing or any of that, simply transferring organization from varies devices to predestinated folders..... Is there such a thing?

CFGuy Hi- Program looks nice, and price point is very good. Problem for me is the "Fine Print"/"EULA": "Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed". This just seems overly stringent to me. As a software consumer, if I buy a license of the program, install and activate it and then 3 months later replace my computer with a newer model, why should I not be allowed to uninstall/"de-activate" purchased program from my old system and re-install and activate the program on my new system? This only seems "fair" to me, as a software consumer. I would welcome any clarification on this issue from Ashampoo reps. Ashampoo is a very good software company and I have purchased and used many of their programs, and always give them high marks for reasonable prices. However, this non-license transfer to a new computer policy just seems unreasonable to me. Thanks. CFguy.
