Is computer security important to you? How about energy bills? Are you constantly forgetting to shut down your computer, only to return to find that you've wasted a weekends-worth of power, or worse yet, that someone's been accessing your information?

Sounds like it might be time for Auto Shutdown PC, a nifty program that allows you to program your computer to shut down automatically, at user-specified times.

Auto Shutdown PC can protect your privacy and help you save on your energy bills. All you have to do is set the program to shut down your computer at a certain time, and voila! Everything is taken care of for you.

Auto Shutdown PC even works if nobody is logged on, or if your computer is in hibernation mode. You can adjust the schedule to work whenever you need it: daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. You can even set it to start much-needed applications before you shut down the system entirely.

Peter User I have some backup programs that run at night-time, after which I would like Auto-Shutdown to turn off the computer. However, I cannot specify particular time, for it to shut down, as the time for the backup to complete itself and turn itself off varies from day to day. Sometimes it may take a few minutes, and at other times it may take a few hours.

The backup program has its own scheduling mechanism built into itself, and it closes the program when it has completed its work. How can I use auto-shutdown to bring itself into action when the backup program completes its work?

Thank you for your time and interest.

Peter

Mike G Peter, I normally don't suggest alternative products on Bits, but since you've been waiting 5 days for a response, you might want to take a look at a freeware utility called AMP WinOFF. With WinOFF you can schedule a shutdown, but have it execute a program (such as your backup) first. WinOFF will not shutdown until the program finishes.

Alternatively, you can set WinOFF to shutdown when CPU utilization drops below a certain level for a certain length of time. Don't pick 0% because background processes occasionally use a few CPU cycles (typically no more than 5-10%) even when nothing else is running.

Jack Woon Sorry for the later response.
That's a nice idea, we will add this feature to the next minor update:
1, When CPU utilization drops below a certain level for a certain length of time, auto-shutdown pc.
2, When a program finishes a job, after some delay, asp shuts down pc automatically.
When the next minor update is okay, we will inform you as soon as possible.
Auto Shutdown PC supports multiple recurrece pattern: daily weekly, monthly, yearly, once. In current condition, one way to use Auto Shutdown PC is to find the latest time of backup to start the shutdown activity.

Jack Woon Our next minor update will include the above features inside. After you order this product, you can get the update free. The minor update is free to charge. After the promotion, we will not provide such low price.
By the way, Auto Shutdown PC supports multiple shutdown activities, which make it distinguish from other software. You can add several shutdown activities for different business requirements. For example, hibernate at noon time, shutdown PC after duty.

Jack Woon Hello, Peter Dr,
We have released Auto Shutdown PC 1.3. The new version can give you an answer about your question.
To shut down your pc after the backup job, you can create a shutdown task, schedule to run before start the heavy backup task, and check the options Start the task when CPU is idle(This option is intended for shutting down the computer after finishing a CPU-intensive task like database backup or video convertion.). It then will perform the shut down when the CPU usage is equal or below than the selected percentage during the indicated amount of time.

Updates of this version:
1. Add menu shortcuts to shutdown pc directly.
2. Provide Now, Today shortcut button in Control PC tab to get the time quickly.
3. When the computer has been idle for specifically time the shutdown task will be executed.
4. When CPU usage stays for specifically value and time the shutdown task will be executed.
5. Auto minimize to the tray bar when start up.
6. Bugs Fixed:
1, When hibernate, there has an error to stop Auto Shutdown PC service application.
2, The effective time of conditions is not calculated correctly.
