Joan Korte Is this version 3 or version 4? Version 4 just came out; for this price, it is a great deal and excellent software. Version 4 Ultimate retails for $295. It is also easy to learn with good support.

Joan Korte Still, a great deal! If anyone is interested, download the trial version, try it and soon, before this offer expires. For most mindmap programs of quality with a lot of features, you will pay well over $200.

Steve Coppard This is not such a great deal here in the UK. We can buy the Ultimate version direct from Buzan's website for £149 but the BdJ discounted (dollar) price equates to £111 which is only 25% discount - OK not bad but nowhere near the 40% of this offer.

Eddie I'm somewhat tempted to get this one, but have some concerns.

Version 3 seems to be less than a year old. How frequent are the paid upgrades? How much are the upgrade fees? Did bugs get fixed for the previous version, or are users "encouraged" to upgrade?

For roughly the promo price I could upgrade my old copy of Nova Mind, but I feel it is overpriced. Or I could get MindView 3 (Academic).

Right now I'm using XMind (Free, although I have the Pro version), and more frequently I'm using ConceptDraw MindMap Pro 5.5 (Free). In fact, I started a document using iMindMap's trial and ended up doing it in MindMap Pro.

Thanks for any additional input regarding upgrades and bug fixes.

Joan Korte I think, if memory serves me, you are right about the time frame between major upgrades. Yes, the bugs were fixed and all minor upgrades were included in the price for version 3.
To predict when, say version 5 will come out, I can't. But, the upgrade for me to move from version 3 to version 4 (both the Ultimate editions) was $40 which I thought was very reasonable.

More specifics are here:

OpenGenius Why not download the free trial and see the difference for yourself? We believe that the tools and features included speak for themselves...

iMindMap is the official software tool of Tony Buzan, the inventor of Mind Mapping. It is the only software that accurately delivers the visual flexibility and brain friendliness of the highly proven and renown Buzan Mind Mapping techniques.

We believe iMindMap is unique as it harness your full range of cortical skills - word, image, number, logic, rhythm, colour and spatial awareness. This gives you the freedom to 'think' in a more effective and brain friendly way, giving you an advantage over individuals stuck in old fashioned linear thinking patterns. It allows you to see the whole picture and save time by becoming more efficient.

peter pereh Hello Q Baransky ,

I would say, what makes iMindMap different is the above mentioned 'visual flexibility' that provides the means to make the maps look exactly as you like them to be. Most other software I have seen turn a mind map into something that looks more like a neutral hierarchical diagram.
Alas, this flexibility is provided in all 3 versions of iMindMap, and since 'bitsdujour' is mostly used by 'normal' users, it is unintelligible why companies sometimes only offer savings for versions used by professionals. That way their products still remain too expensive for home users.

Regards,
Peter.

Joan Korte For more information, Chuck Frey has a very informative blog on mindmap software. He reviewed imindmap v. 4 here:

E P Q Baransky, as mentioned above, you could just download the various applications and compare for yourself. The downside is that it does take a bit of time.

In the blog mentioned by Joan Korte there are also reviews for other programs. In fact, I was just checking it out since I got an email from Nova Mind mentioning Chuck Frey's review.

For my needs, a determinant factor is price. When Nova Mind changed its pricing structure I purchased XMind Pro. They changed their structure as well and made the software available for free. Pretty much there was little or no benefit for those of us who had purchased the previous Pro version.

I later ran into a promo, and got ConceptDraw MindMap 5.5 for free. That's the one I'm using now. It got a 5-star review in the aforementioned blog.
Since ConceptDraw also offered ConceptDraw Pro for free, I think that I'll just upgrade to ConceptDraw Office when I decide to get the newer versions. Getting their Office Suite will be cheaper than upgrading Nova Mind or purchasing iMindMap Ultimate at the discounted price.

Another option is MindJet MindManager. I use a Mac, and their Mac verson lags behind the PC version.

Nevertheless, as many users (like me) do not require the complete functionality, I wonder if there is also a discount for the iMindMap Professional version that already comes with quite a bunch of functionality like the Open Office integration. Hopefully, you have good news ;-)

iMindMap is a dedicated tool that allows users to Mind Map easily in an organic nature. Using graphic programs to achieve the same results would be a time consuming process and more limited.

Also with iMindMap Ultimate users have extra features of being able to export their mind maps a number of different formats. Project management is also included and our Presentation view.

fran harter Regarding the "Bonus pack".

What is the price to buy it separately?

In order to purchase any upgrade, a serial number is first required.
Since I don't have a serial number, I can't reach your pricing page for the bonus pack.

I am guessing it is somewhere around $100; (as that is the difference in "regular price" between the ultimate and the ultimate + bonus).

If I bought the ultimate pkg today on Bitsdujour, would there be any discount when later buying the additional bonus pack?

I just took the plunge getting this, and two things:

1. On the registration email, there is a link to get free imindmap templates (business (28 templates), educational (23 templates), and personal (25 templates)). I'm not sure if these are the same templates in the bonus pack or not.

2. I checked what the upgrade to the ultimate plus pack would be and you are correct, it is exactly $100.

Albert C. Hi. I'd like to ask a couple of things before making my purchase.
Is iMM suited for making sports draws? I know that this isn't related at all with mind maping, but I've been after a "sports draw" program for a long time without any luck at all. The branches system seems pretty good to make those sports draws (you know, like in tennis quarterfinals, semis and so on).
Is there a way to make a template and then reuse it for new documents?
Also, is iMM Windows 7 *64bit* compatible?
I'm sorry if my questions are too obvious, but I'd like to make sure that I buy a complete application.

Owen Hardy Hello Albert,

Im not 100% sure what you mean by 'Sports Draw' but if you are referring to. iMindMap will allow you to create sports maps that 'radiate out' from a custom Central Idea.

I would suggest that you quickly sign up and download our free trial.

Yes, with iMindMap 4.1 with have now included a Template system allowing you to create a template that can be re-used.

Also just to confirm that iMindMap is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. A few of our team already run the software on this platform.

Many Thanks,

Our discount promotions only run up to iMindMap Ultimate - and not to the Plus Pack. If you wish to buy the Plus Pack separately we can arrange that if you call our Sales Team +44(0)20 71 177 173. We can ship the Packs to anywhere in the World - the is a charge of $19.70 (USD) outside the UK.

OpenGenius In the free trial version of the software, all export options are disabled. When you export your Mind Map the hyperlinks won't work in the actual Mind Map form, but any hyperlinks that are attached to branches will  be listed on subsequent slides so that they can be accessed.

If you want an example please email our support team (supportthinkbuzan.com) who will be able to send you a PPT presentation so you can see exactly what is exported and the format in which this is done.

Bill D Further, does this software incorporate DRM? Is activation tied to the specific computer hardware fingerprint when activated, or is the software allowed to be used by a single user on multiple computers as long as only one copy is in use by the licensee? For such a high cost software investment as this is, it is important to know these limitations up front prior to purchase. If the software activation is via DRM and via hardware fingerprint, this is a non-starter for me.

OpenGenius Hi Diego,

iMindMap allows you to import maps from MindManager, Novamind and Freedmind, but unfortunately not MindVisualizer at the moment.

A single user license may only be activated on 2 computers. You can move one activation to a new computer, but cannot have it on more than 2 at the same time. We do offer reduced pricing if you wish to purchase a 2 user license which would allow activation on 4 computers.

We will soon be releasing iMindMap Freedom which will be a small annual subscription that allows you to use the iMindMap mobile apps and online editor, freeing you up from being tied to one or two computers. This should be out in the next few weeks.

Thanks

H. H. Hallo,
follogwing licence question:
you write 1 installation per hardware footprint
- does this mean, that even formatting harddisk and making a new install one will loose the license or at least have to contact your compan? - what´s when changing harddisk or ram?
Do you offer the possibility (like e.g. adobe does) to deactivate the software before making a planned system change, so that the activation counter is untouched?
with kind regards

TESS273 I've bought via paypal about 1 hour ago.

I have two computers but installed only one PC(Tablet Laptop).

Your activation system recognize hardware footprint wheather it's the same PC or not, but it's not true.

I installed and activated via online.

After uninstalled, I re-installed and activated via offline this time. It failed a few times. So I tried to activate via online again.

Unable to activate license.
The license can not be activated as the number of allowed copies has been exceeded.

It's the same PC.

Though I re-installed on the same pc, activation license is used whenever I install.

Thanks.

Andrew Griffiths Too bad this doesn't have even a 15-day return policy. I only just noticed this deal and don't have the time today - let alone in one day - to evaluate.
.
With software under $20 and zero return I'll take a risk but $128 is just too much.

I'm a bit surprised by a zero return policy. Of course there's always the possibility of customer fraud but (a) you don't "win friends and influence people" by assuming customers are out to get you (b) most of us are just too busy to try and rip off a vendor (c) as we're all on the internet these days vendors at this price point could provide a provisional license during the return period if they're that paranoid - or accomplish same through other means.

Maybe in the UK they're so well known that it would be like buying MS Office. But in the US Buzan is not so well known.

Rich Ackerson Hi Ashleigh,

I did as you suggested. I checked the feature list and downloaded the trial. Your training videos are a nice touch - I made sure to review them as I was testing the trial. I have to say I am impressed. So much so that I just completed my purchase. Goodbye MindManager!

About my only wish so far would be for the discount code to have covered the Resource Kit add-on as well. But I just couldn't pass up on this 50% discount offer.

I am looking forward to many years as a happy user of iMindMap!

Rich Ackerson Hi Ashleigh,

Before I purchased, I experimented a bit creating new maps. Since the trial did not expose the ability to Import (as you stated above in an earlier reply), I didn't worry too much about it. Now that I have purchased, I thought I would see how well the import works.

This is probably a stupid question, but although I found the Import button under the NEW option of the File menu, I cannot see a way to import a MindManager file. The only option I seem to have is to import an iMindMap template. I realize I am likely missing something obvious. How can I import my MindManager 9 maps?

Also, since exporting to Project is a feature, do you support importing from Project? If not, would you consider adding this feature to your wish list? I have people at work that would like to share my project maps; they use Project, I will be using iMindMap. It would be a great help to be able to use this as a two-way process where I design the map in iMindMap, export it to Project where someone can make changes, and then import those changes back to iMindMap.

Thanks.

OpenGenius Hi Rich,

All you need to do to import MindManager maps, simply go to File Open and browse your computer for the map you want. Once selected this will then convert the MindManager map into an iMindMap map.

Importing from Project is not currently possible but we are continuously adding new features to our software. We encourage our users to post their suggestions in our ideas forum so other users can comment and vote for the features they want to see developed. You can take a look here:

Hope to see you in the Forum!

Vanessa N @Stephen,

I'm not sure about home to ultimate, but I know that the upgrade prices for current users are pretty nice (better than the 50% discount above).....

I bought iMindmap Ultimate v.4, and although I haven't done so yet (but will), the upgrade cost from Ultimate 4 to Ultimate 5 (the current version) is only $70. So people who buy...upgrade pricing is pretty decent direct from the vendor.

I found this out by goign to the website, clicking on the upgrade button, and putting in my license code. You can try it (although I'm not sure if it will give you the option to upgrade from home to ultimate).

OpenGenius Hi Stephen,

Yes Vanessa is correct - this offer doesn't apply to upgrades. However if you go to www.thinkbuzan.com/products/upgrade and enter your serial number you can see your upgrade options to ultimate.

Thanks

Ashleigh

Leland Hill Where I am located there are 5 hours left to evaluate and purchase the software. And that is simply not enough time to make a decision. Any chance this offer will be extended?

Thanks.

No, this promotion will not be extended.

Leland Hill Too bad. If you'd extended the offer I might have given this application some serious consideration. For a company that offers a "Mind Map", I find your thinking to be pretty narrow.

Sunny Ewing Also experienced problems when attempting to purchase. Went through PayPal as well and kept getting, "http 500 internal sever errors". Sent message to the sales dept and submitted ticket via online support. This will be a good evalution of their commitment to customer service.

Petr What is the ongoing cost to keep current with software versions after the 1st year? For Ultimate and for your entry level software? Thanks.

Roberto Im their customer since imindmap 5. I'm not using their online services, just the desktop tool. Usually they offer a coupon for 12 extra months when you upgrade to the next version, and sometimes they offer some deal with books or dvds.
Its not a cheap software but its a nice tool... I mainly use it with my son to study and I recomend it.

OpenGenius Hi All,

In answer to your questions, iMindMap is a perpetual license and you can access the version that you purchase indefinitely. When we release an updated version of iMindMap, we always offer our existing users a substantial discount if they would like to upgrade. Our upgrade prices vary year on year, so I cannot predict an exact upgrade price for future editions. There is no obligation to upgrade your software when an update is released as your software will still be supported.

With iMindMap 10 Ultimate, we currently offer 12 months of iMindMap Cloud & Mobile and 12 months of task management app, DropTask for Business free.

bsr007 I purchased iMindMap10 through this promotion. I have created a free DropTask account to use in association with iMindMap. How do I convert my account to the DropTask for Business free for 12 months as stated above?

K X Re: upgrade pricing. In the past, they've released a new version around November / December of each year. When the new version comes out, they've usually had a limited time launch offer of around 50% off to upgrade (often with extra books or DVDs, as Roberto says above.)

Then, during the year there are other varying upgrade deals of less than 50% off, so it's best to take advantage of the launch offers for upgrading.

They've had a consistent track record of yearly updates, and each update has made the program more powerful and fun to use.

Go to biggerplate.com to see some excellent examples of the kinds of creative mind maps which can be made with iMindMap software.

Constantin Florea @Raja Sen, I am sorry but there is currently no special discount on purchasing multiple licenses.

Ronald Jurman Looks like a fine program, and the Time Map view looks quite appealing, but at the price (incl. the roughly 50% off full price for essentially yearly upgrades, based on history), I'm having a terribly difficult time justifying this over, say Freemind. I'm still considering it, but ... .

mix624 I just bought it and find it interesting. The only thing I really dont like is that it is not possible to have two lines or more on ALL type of branches. It is really irritating.

I read in the forum and it is not possible in iMindmap 10. It is only possible in the boxes by clicking shift and enter.

Will you fix this, it seems like a big demand or interest in the forum too ?
