What are people saying about Basic4android Enterprise

Kevin Lintner Is the only difference between the Enterprise and Standard versions the length of upgrade availability? I take it there's no discount available for Standard? (A poor, aspiring developer can hope, right?)
Thank you for your time. =)
Apr 20 2013 at 7:00am Copy Link

Alan Enterprise version gives you 2 years of upgrades, the Standard gives 2 months. I believe that's the only difference.

I own the product, and though I am just playing at this point, I love it.

They are continually adding to it, etc.

Michael R. Do I understand it right, that the created software can be published without any royalties (now and after these two years)?

After these two years,
1) will customers be able to update for free within the current major-version to get the current bugs fixed (e.g. if v3.2 is the last version after these two years, will former curstomers be able to update within 3.x)?
2) will customers have still access to the online-resources / forum?
3) what are the costs to upgrade for two more years? Ok, nobody can say, what's in two years, but what is the situation now?
Apr 20 2013 at 12:17pm Copy Link
1
Erel Uziel There are no royalties.

1) If a "bugs fix" version is released then it is released to all users who received the latest version.

2) Yes.

3) We usually offer a significant discount.

Erel Uziel Theoretically it is possible to reuse C++ code. However in most cases it is quite complicated and not worth the efforts.

Michael R. Thanks for your former answers.

Theoretically it is possible to reuse C++ code. However in most cases it is quite complicated and not worth the efforts.

Really that complicated? I am talking about some calculation-subroutines, nothing graphical or hardware-related. Can you refer to a how-to help-source or shortly explain how this could be done anyway?

Thanks a lot...

ron r I am really curious about this one.

Just to be sure:
------------------
- The 'fine print' states that this is the version which has 2 years of upgrades.
Is it possible to upgrade at discounted price when 2 year period has passed?
(although this is not a real issue, If you can sell your app you'll get the money of this very quickly but I was still curious about this)
------------------
- It contains a simulator to test the apps?
With simulator I mean: a graphical representation of the targeted device in which you can test the app (with mouse and keyboard?)
------------------
- I am going to start with C++, does 'Basic4android' support in any form C++ (wrapping, or other ...?)
------------------
- Are there any plans for an similar IDE for the Apple iphone?
------------------
- My I use the IDE on different computers in the same household where I am the only user of this application?
------------------
- Are there any resources that have to be downloaded beside this IDE?
(.NET, ....) or is everything contained in the IDE?
Aug 2 2013 at 3:41pm Copy Link

Erel Uziel 1. Yes. You will receive an email with a special offer once your free upgrades period expires.

2. You can use the standard Android emulator which is part of Android SDK.
Note that Basic4android provides several ways to connect to a real device. In most cases it is easier to work with real devices.

3. Basic4android doesn't support C++. You can create Java libraries and use them with Basic4android.

4. Maybe in the future...

5. You can install it on two computers. Contact Support if you need more.

6. Basic4android depends on .Net Framework 2.0. It is already installed on most computers.
It also depends on Java and Android SDK. See the instructions in the "downloads" page for more information.

Phil Shotton I've been using this product for over 2 years now. It's a _really_ quick and easy way to develop Android Apps. You don't need to know Java or any obtuse language, although if you know any programming languages it will help. It is really simple to use, quick to use and it works, really, really well. Realistically this should be priced at 10 times the amount it is. I've more than made the cost back for the Enterprise version a few times over now.

The Forum is quite handy as well, Erel (amongst others) is usually on hand to offer advice or point people in the right direction.

peter anon How does the IDE handle screen resolutions between different devices?

I'd like to be able to load in a background image and for it to automatically stretch. Will it?

Or do I have to test and resize and load multiple backdrops images?

Also in other IDEs, the background can auto scroll (a seamless tile) which is perfect for a game backdrop,

On that question of games, is there anything like sprite collision detection, physics, and all that jazz?

DroidLuvr I have a friend that this might be perfect for, and I've heard you mention that this is similar to Visual Basic language, but what about for someone who has never programmed at all? Just a very savvy PC user - not a macro, VB, VBA, or any other type of programming person? Would the learning curve be pretty steep?

Erel Uziel @Phil, thank you :)

@peter, the visual designer includes several tools to help you design layouts that look good on all devices:
- Multiple variants
- Built-in script engine
- UI Cloud - set of real devices that we host and are available for testings.
- Abstract designer
- Auto scale feature.

About games, search the site for games. You will see several tutorial. We are also working on a new more advanced game engine which will soon be available.

TAPTRONIC After 25 minutes of trying to "log in" to primus to see my order number, etc and getting this error "Email address does not match. Please try again. " I finally tried different capitalization of the email address. Finally one went thru. Thats pathetic.

I read this from an email that I received from you "If you have bought Basic4android using Plimus then you should use the link included in the confirmation mail."

From that email I have this:
"Thank you for your purchase of:

(1) - Basic4android - - Enterprise Version

Please download the full version from this link:
https://www.plimus.com/js...ENTIONALLY REMOVED"

I am following the directions given to me - I am supposed to download and use the above link. But I click that I get the error I posted above.

I wont be purchasing with primus again. This is too confusing.

So.......... ** should I download and install from the OTHER link that I received from you in an email later on after the purchase? I am so confused.

Christian Mo I'm also another user of Basic4Android (been using it since 2011) and would highly recommend it. Though I haven't been doing much with the Android platform lately (I'm currently working on some Windows projects), I've still kept myself updated with the progress of the engine through B4A's Twitter and Facebook streams, and regularly visits its forum to learn what Erel (founder of Basic4Android's Anywhere Software) has been doing with the platform.

In my opinion, not only is Basic4Android one of the most easy-to-use and yet flexible and powerful dev tool for Android available in the market to date, it's low cost also made it highly accessible to hobbyist users like myself. Sure the standard Android and Java SDKs are both free, but you'd have to consider other "costs" like the difficulty in learning and using Java and the (IMO) lackluster visual tools that's currently available which will eventually factor into the time and effort that could be better spent on the projects themselves. With B4A, the language is much friendlier, the tools much more stable and solid, and you could still extend functionality with Java libraries if you really want/need to. It's really the best of both worlds. The active and helpful forum community as well as Erel's regular participation himself tops off an already great experience. In there, many customers along with Erel regularly shares useful code snippets and even functional libraries, and provide assistance to those needing a little help along the way.

I still have an active subscription now, and will certainly renew my subscription when it runs out. For those of you bothered by the use of Plimus as a payment gateway, I'd suggest that you don't let yourself be dissuaded from trying out Basic4Android because of it. Even if you hate it, consider Plimus a "necessary evil" for now, and don't miss out on the amazing dev tool that is B4A! =)

2. Yes. See HttpUtils2.
3. Automatic updates are handled by Google Play. You can also implement your own solution though you should be aware to Google Play terms (they do not allow it).

Phil Shotton If anyone is interested in this product and thinks it looks too good to be true, it isn't. I've been using it for over 3 years now and have easily recouped the cost of the software and produced 4 Apps which have done quite well over the years. The support is excellent and Erel works tirelessly to ensure that Users get a good deal and help. The Forum is fairly busy and getting more traction. It helps if you have an understanding of java or javascript programming, but that's not entirely necessary. There is at least 1 book out there and also a magbook as well.

I am considering purchasing again now though to extend my support, but I can't find anywhere on your website a mention of what the 'regular' renewal price would be after the 2 year period is up for Basic4Android (Enterprise Version).

John This program is the BEST way to develop NATIVE Android apps (Google Play Store ready) in BASIC. You can even build "wrappers" around third-party libraries to add more functionality to your apps.

Very active and contributing community. Fast response to support.

Also, this company offers another product for creating NATIVE iOS apps (iPhone/iPad apps ready for Apple's App Store/iTunes), and a lot of your code can be shared between the different platforms. So you can develop apps in BASIC for BOTH Android and iOS!

Robert Crombie Two questions -
I am a VB6 developer.
Is your Basic similar to VB6 or to VB.NET ?

I have a friend who keeps nagging me to 'learn' app development, so as to create a calculator (for his industry) for his iPhone (mutter, mutter)
Is there any plans for you to make a similar offer for Apple app creator, in the near future ?

Thanks,
Rob
PS I have failed in my attempts to get him to switch over to Android.

Erel Uziel B4A syntax is similar to Visual Basic. The language itself is not the same as VB6 nor VB.Net.
You can say that it is somewhere in the middle.

We already provide another tool named B4i that creates native iOS applications.

Phil Shotton To anyone thinking about installing this, do it!

It works, it's not a difficult piece of software to use, the syntax is javascript like in it's approach, but is very easy to use.

I've been using this for just over 4 years now and more than made the cost of the licence back. Erel (the developer) produces a number of updates and is always willing to listen to new ideas and help out where possible.

It works _really_ well and there are quite a few examples and tutorials on the Forum and a lot of active users who are willing to help out. There are some books available, a beginners e-guide and also a magbook available.

The price of B4A + B4i is $189, not $119.

Bought DOS 1.1 Once we purchase, how do we actually download and activate or license the software?

I paid via paypal and received immediately received a receipt and 'account' information from a company called BlueSnap. This receipt indicated that I'd receive another

That account shows that I paid, what I paid, and how I paid.

It DOES NOT show any download link or similar to access the software.

For such a well-respected product - based on above comments - this seems like shoddy service.

Would someone reply either here or privately and tell me how to access what I've paid for? Thanks...

Erel Uziel You should have received another mail with the download link and license file. It is sent automatically a few minutes after purchase.

Make sure to check the spam folder.

I will send it again. If you still don't see it then please contact supportbasic4ppc.com.

Dennis I have used B4PPC and B4Android for years - first bought here on BDJ. Erel's software and libraries are terrific. I write this endorsement as an enterprise user, and am happy just to send him $$ whenever he or BDJ asks - it's that good. Thanks, Erel!

Bought DOS 1.1 Just wanted to confirm that Erel did send me an email that provided the product download link, license file, and full access.

B4A downloaded and installed perfectly, no snags. I'm looking forward to learning it.

THANK YOU for showing true client support! That's pretty rare these days.

Candice Robertson Does this package allow you to develop applications which access GPS information and access "voice" input? (edit, according to questions in the forum, it does:)

Also, I've seen in some of the older comments that registered users have asked if they can use this deal to extend their existing license. Does that imply extending your license costs more than 50% of the original purchase price?

Stefan Hauber Is B4A usable for RaspberryPi too or with which product programs can be written for it?

On your website there seems to be a product B4X, but it's not in the store )(yet)? Will it be on BDJ too?

Erel Uziel We offer 4 products:
B4A - Android
B4i - iOS
B4J - desktop, server and Raspberry Pi applications
B4R - Arduino and ESP8266

B4J and B4R are free.

B4A also supports Raspberry Pi 3 with the relatively new Android Things framework.

Yet another question: What is the Standard upgrade price for a(ny) former B4A Enterprise customers? Is this discounted in 'todays' offer, i.e. for former customers too? Would be great...

TAPTRONIC I am looking at an SDK which is written for Android. Its from BlinkReceipt (microblink . com). I am wondering, can I pull that SDK into a project with Basic4Android even if the SDK is written in Java?
Apr 13 2018 at 3:38am Copy Link

Erel Uziel There are two ways to access external SDKs:

1. With JavaObject: https://www.b4x.com/andro...4/#content

2. By writing a wrapper library. In most cases it is not too complicated but it does require some Java knowledge.

disenchanted Does this program allow one to "look at created code" of other android , 3rd party apps?

Reason I ask is that these days, there are TOO MANY apps that WANT to have access to functionality they have NO USE EVEN ASKING FOR!
They don't NEED access to every single functionality but theu's sure like TO HAVE ACCESS TO EVERY FUNCTIONALITY.

Unfortunately app users are only given a TAKEN IT OR LEAVE IT CHOICE in the matter.

My question being, can I open an existing, 3rd party app with this tool, review that installed app's proprties, and possibly EDIT/CHANGE them?

Or am I needing more of a Decompiler/Disassembly tool?

Thanks in advance
