No Name Does this list view support two way data binding? I.e. retrieving things from a datasource, and automatically notifying the datasource when the currently selected item changes?

Dextronet wraith 808: Data binding is one of the few features that is not supported yet.

We are currently working on major new features - item hierarchy support and grouping. We plan to release new version with these features in approx 2 weeks. We will add data binding after that. All purchases include 1 year of updates, so you will get all these additional features for free.

Richard Andersen I've tried to install the frial, but I'm getting this error whenever I open VS2008:

http://miscfiles.net//temp/0001/blvw.gif

Demo's work allright.

I'm tempted, particularly because of the promised two way data binding. Will that include a simple way to bind to a multidimensional array?

However, I'm not happy with the no return policy, since I don't have time to check it out, even if I could get it to work.

Dextronet Hi Richard,

Thanks for the screenshot, we will check it out and fix this soon.

You can add the Better ListView to your toolbox manually, the package is supposed to add it there automatically for you, but for some reason it is not working on your PC with VS2008.

It will be possible to bind multidimensional array somehow, but I can't promise it will be doable directly. However, in any case, it will be simple - and it will probably be possible even directly, yes - unless we run into some huge difficulties while implementing this.

Richard Andersen I've have a program written in C# using the standard ListView control in VS2008. Can I replace it with this one without having to do major changes to the current code?

Also, last time it was on BDJ (see older comments) you said you planned to implement two way data binding to multidimensional array. Has this been done?

Dextronet Hi Richard,

Yes, you can replace the regular ListView with Better ListView. All Better ListView objects have prefix BetterListView, and there are very few changes needed other than that.

Better ListView is used the same way as the regular ListView.

And yes, we've implemented complex data-binding in the 2.0 release. One of the included samples demonstrates data-binding.

Richard Andersen Thanks for the quick reply Jiri.

As for the data binding, do you happen to have some C# sample code showing how to bind the ListView to a multidimensional. array?

Also, I think there is a bug in the Drag and Drop sample - if I drag all the items in the right box into the Bin, and then add new items to it again from the Star Icon, it works allright with the first item, but then I get an exception for each of additional item.

Libor Tinka Hello Richard,

the full data binding sample is present in the Samples Explorer bundled in Better ListView package, including source code.

There is a sample how to bind array of strings and arbitrary objects. You can bind jagged and multidimensional arrays as well, but every element of the IList corresponds to a ListView item. Binding to sub-items is possible as well, it works the same way as in the DataGridView (contained in the sample as well for comparison).

As for the bug, it is probably not a Better ListView bug.It is rather problem in the sample implementation. We use drag-drop heavily in our desktop products, so don't worry about its correctenss. We fix that little issue in the next version, thanks for noticing about that.

Richard Andersen OK, will take a look at the source code then.

Robert S Do you offer the sourcecode for the sample application in VB as well?
Sep 4 2011 at 9:08am Copy Link

Dextronet Robert: The samples source code is in C#, however, all the samples are very simple, so you should be able to understand them.

Additionally, you can use a converter: http://www.developerfusio...arp-to-vb/
